Hi all, I've recently started experimenting with performing my music live using Ableton and midi controllers (to trigger scenes/manipulate effects, nothing complex as of yet). I want to build a full set of my tracks (half hour to an hour) and ideally I'd want them all to be in the same project, so they flow into each other and I can experiment with the transitions. However, I'm a bit worried that my laptop won't be able to hack it and it will tank the CPU, even with freezing/flattening everything. I have a Dell XPS 15 with (I think) 16GB RAM, i7 core etc., nothing crazy but hardly a hefty piece of kit either. Does anyone have any advice or would my only option be to massively upgrade my RAM? Thanks!
Looking for help if anyone is able to share some guidance.
I’ve installed Ableton Live 11 lite and have a midi keyboard which appears to be successfully interfaced with Ableton. Similarly I’ve installed Asio4all and in preferences this is set as the driver and audio device input and output config appears to be correct also but I cannot get any sound to come out when I select a sound (but the dashboard is showing it is receiving input when I press keys on the midi).
Audio from other sources such as YouTube are working so it’s not a hardware/software issue that I can tell with the laptop.
Ableton and Asio both appear to be fully updated too.
Is there anything else I can try to get some sound?
Thanks in advance.
Hi
So my mic shows the green bars as bouncing up to basically the 0db mark but when recording the actual recorded piece has barely anything more than a straight line. It’s the complete opposite for my acoustic which shows the exact same amount of live input but when recorded the peaks are almost maxed out.
I’m quite new to all this recording malarkey so speak in laymen’s terms please and appreciate any help.
Thanks
Has Ableton changed the way you modify the volume of sections of a sample? I used to be able to hold shift and drag across the sample so that it essentially tapers the beginning to come in more gradually.
Since version 12, the only way I've found to do it is to highlight the first part of the sample then automate the volume. Am I missing something or is that how it's done now (assuming anything I've put here makes any sense lol)
Just getting to grips with the new sequencers which seem built for techno and inspiration... I made this industrial techno rack with the SQ Sequencer, Operator and some FX including roar...
You can get the rack here: https://www.studiobrootle.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Industrial-Techno-Sequence-Ableton-12.zip
Hope you can find use for it.
There's a video explaining it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-lfHS7yum9E
I'm looking for a "mastering" type plug in that I can put on the main output channel to get a feel for what a final mastered mix will sound like. I'm not necessarily looking for a whole mastering suite or pro-level effect, just something I can toggle on to give me a rough idea of what a mastered version of the track might sound like. I used to use some older IK Multimedia T-Racks plug-ins, but I'm not a big fan off the newer versions and how they basically force you to download a "web store" on to your computer to install it. Just got a new computer and I don't feel like installing that junk on it. Any suggestions on a basic mastering plug-in? Should I just build a "mastering chain" from the stock plug-ins? Or just put a limiter on it and call it done?
I would like to use the Ableton live12 connectionkit to work with an Arduino leonardo.
I have a relay switch on the Arduino and would like to use the Ableton signal to drive the relay switch. I have written Standard Firmata for the Arduino, but it does not respond well. I can't even get the LED to light up in the first place. I am using Mac Sonoma 14.2. I have a live concert coming up and would really like to use it. Please help! Thank you in advance for your help.
Anyone have safe links to download some sample packs?
I’ve already got Jungle Jungle and rave generator although the plug in never downloaded
Looking for anything ranging from old school Jungle, breakbeat, ghetto, electro, Acid Tech and house, basically good electronic music even 80’s lil suzy planet rock style.
I'm trying to find a way to increase the 'gap' or separator between automation tracks. I've been using Live 11 for a year now and it always confused me why they had the automation tracks LITERALLY Right on top of each other. That is one of the toughest things for me to deal with because I love using Live's automation system but I cannot stand how close these tracks are to one another. It's getting to the point where my eyes are getting sore after working on larger projects.
If there is a way to make this happen, I would greatly appreciate the info... I have experimented with the options file thing you can do in Ableton but I haven't been able to find anything about this specific issue...
Hey guys,
(Not native english)
I'm working in Live 10 Suite with Ableton Push 1 and AKAI APC Mini.
Push should control MIDI in Track 1, APC should trigger audio clips in Track 2 upwards.
If I trigger something in APC, Push goes into the corresponding track and I have to switch it back to see the notes for the MIDI track.
I want to use both controllers at the same time.
What do I do wrong?
Pictures attached.
I can't find this info anywhere,
is Ableton having Black Friday/Cyber Monday Sales this November 2024? When do they begin?
Are they ongoing at the moment?
Not sure how to fix this bug. I have no audio but I can see the audio in each individual channel's meter. However, the main channel has no activity on the meter. I checked the obvious routing and that looks fine. Anyone ever experience this? I'm lost :(
I am on Ableton 12 FYI
SOLVED: It was because I had the "God Particle" VST on my master and it was outdated. Apparently when its outdated it stops audio from coming through.
I’ve been using Live for many years but strictly for live performances. I used a different DAW for recording. I recently started a project using Live for everything. I’ve had a number of occurrences where I have had tracks recorded that mysteriously disappear. I’d play them back and they were there . Then they would then disappear from the channel. They even disappear from saved projects. When I go to the file browser I can see that they’re still in the project and I can hear them with the sample preview. I tried to drag them back into the channel but they appear as clips. At first I thought that the Lanes feature was causing the problem but I haven’t been using loops for recordings so I would think that they wouldn’t be a factor.
Hi Live team!
My band and I were wokring in Live 12 Suite, recording live instruments and using MIDI instruments when we encountered a strange technical issue. We were using a drum sample we bought from a sample pack and used the convert drums to MIDI option from the drop-down list. Then we made a separate MIDI track, made it a drum rack, and took a drum sample pack we bought from Ableton, and dragged all the drum samples into a drum rack, in that order. Then after the dragging, the drum rack started playing the drum samples all on its own, without any human interaction. Could someone please help explain how to fix the this strange issue? It got in the way of our session because it distracted us from drawing in the MIDI pattern we wanted for our track. Hoping to add screenshots of the issue in an edit later today.
Excited to share that I just discovered a way to change between multiple external editors like iZotope RX and Melodyne in Ableton Live without having to go to preferences to make the change each time! No more diving into preferences every time—it's super smooth now, can very quickly edit in RX, then edit in Melodyne. here's a video I made on it. If you're interested in me providing the full in-depth solution, let me know in the comments.
I have a desktop and a laptop (both Windows 11), and would like to relatively seamlessly switch between them when I'm at home or away.
I have my tracks/samples in Google Drive, synced down using their desktop app to a local folder.
But what about plugins? Is there any reasonable way to auto-sync those across machines, or is that (sometimes) impossible due to them being installed applications with presumably registry settings, etc?
And what about customization in Live, eg saved instrument presets?
I’ve been a DJ for a little over 2.5 years now and I really want to get into the production scene. I typically play house music (most tech house) but also like a variety of different genres including techno, dance, dubstep, and dnb. I have some basic music theory knowledge but I could definitely learn more. I just had a few questions as I begin my journey:
FYI: I just recently purchased the Live 12 Suite
Appreciate any and all support you guys can provide and thank you in advance!
Is there a way to have "Auto-Scale" OFF by default?
I see so many different MIDI controllers used in conjunction with Ableton live performances, I'm wondering what people like and why.
Hi! Sorry if this isn't the right place to post this question but i've been really exited to put my novation launchkey to use and i'd like to experiment a little with chords and melody. Kind of like what this dude on youtube does:
Bronski Beat - Smalltown Boy (Live Loop Cover) | Minilab 3 #ableton #synthmusic
I also use ableton but when i hit the record button and record a 10 second or so clip of me playing basic chords its always an akward delay at the end of the clip before it loops around. It makes it impossible for me to play a melody to it. I've been trying to look for video tutorials about it but can't seem to find any. Does anyone know how to fix this or have tips on getting smooth loops? Thanks you in advance for any advice or pointers!
