    ZeroNet address verification

Hello! I'm currently working on a project that requires ZeroNet address verification. I'm considering validating its base58 encoding. Any advice or alternative suggestions from the community would be highly appreciated.

Came across Zeronet on Yunohost but does not work?

I self host some services through yunohost and it has a self hostable zeronet that i tried out since i like TOR and crypto, but does not seem to work. I uninstalled it awhile back but the project still intrigues me. I have a subdomain i use for it but when i visit it, any web browser, it fails to load. I am about to try again later and troubleshoot but i wanted to post here to see if anybody has a clue. Will post the url once its up.

What do ZeroNet forks add to the network?

Do forks just add a new/edited GUI and some client-side stuff?

[Ask for help] Too few peers for newbie

I am using SOCKS5 proxy for connecting ZeroNet, but not found enough peers after waiting a long time.

Which additional trackers should I add?

And, ask for recommendations, which ZeroNet sites are still popular?

    zeronet-conservancy v0.7.9 and status update

a new minor version of zeronet-conservancy is released

    • sec update of msgpck dependency (thanks to @chncaption)
    • siteSign accepts absolute paths as well as paths relative to working directory
    • updated trackers from Syncronite by @Styromaniac

and a couple more code improvements

in other news, as previously announced, i'm stepping down as official zeronet-conservancy maintainer. if anybody wants it, that position is vacant. this decision reflects both lack of active development and idea that no single person should do everything forever. ironically i might still occasionally push changes to it and even release new versions, but this should be seen as exception rather than expected

another hostile fork violating free software license from an infamous troll

so this anonymous person who've been trolling on github issues and editing wikipedia to mislead people there's no up-to-date forks has now published their fork that violates GPL and authors' right to attribution by deleting git history and replacing all contributors (including founder @nofish) with one "(c) ZeroNet" notice (which is meaningless in its own right 'cause there was never legal entity that owned the code by multiple contributors)

beware of further malicious actions by this person. i've considered staying silent about this so as to not get this person more famous than needed, but considering how loud they are, i opted to let you know

0net wikipedia page is under editing war

the most recent and important information has been removed , vandals only left a superficial reference to zeronet-conservancy without any links to how install one of the modern forks with fixed vulnerability

if you care , please join in fixing this . as involved party , i don't want to edit further to avoid any accusations of "conflict interest"

HollaEx is a spammer unaffiliated with any of 0net projects

i noticed recently that even though i've promotion of HollaEx by spambot which terrorized this community for almost a year, they have now managed to insert their ads into sidebar and apparently my mod rights are not enough to remove that. persistence with which these inadequate malicious "mods" continue to spam 0net subreddit is frankly astonishing. mind you, i've tried to talk with at least one of them so that we could find mutually beneficial solution (e.g. compensation for the damage they've done and further sponsorship of the 0net project(s) with then a proper notion that they're sponsors), but no, they just want ads at our expense!

i'm gonna try to go through top-mod removal process, but there seems to be a lot of bureaucracy so just letting everyone know for now that HollaEx has been only an annoyance to 0net community and frankly judging by their methods might be a scam

i also invite HollaEx representatives for open discussion of this issue and call for immediate removal of offending banner

zeronet-conservancy is preparing v0.7.8 , taking last minute feature/fixes requests

since we're still postponing major release v0.8 , we've decided to make another minor since there are enough improvements to encourage users to update

release will be happening sometime next week so if you have any urgent and not very hard to implement requests , feel free to ask !

you may want to consult with https://github.com/zeronet-conservancy/zeronet-conservancy/issues to see existing issues and maybe pick something from there

anyway , get involved , set up yourself zeronet-conservancy node , seed and make content and help development . decentralised web ftw !

how to install zeronet-conservancy on windows from source code [WIP instruction]

while we're working on creating reproducible builds (i'll write a separate post on crucial importance of reproducibility and why you should never launch unreproducible builds if you care about privacy and security) , here's an instruction on how to manually install zeronet-conservancy on windows os

    • install python from https://www.python.org/downloads/
    • install some windows compiler suitable for python , this proved to be the most difficult part for me as non-windows user (see here https://wiki.python.org/moin/WindowsCompilers and i'll link more references later)
    • [optionally to get latest dev version] install git from https://git-scm.com/downloads
    • [optionally to use tor for better connectivity and anonymization] install tor browser from https://www.torproject.org/download/
    • open git bash console
    • type/copypaste git clone https://github.com/zeronet-conservancy/zeronet-conservancy.git into command line
    • wait till git downloads latest dev version
    • cd zeronet-conservancy
    • python -m venv venv (create virtual python environment)
    • venv\Scripts\activate (this activates the environment)
    • pip install -r requirements.txt (install python dependencies)
    • (NOTE: if previous step fails, it most likely means you haven't installed c/c++ compiler successfully)
    • [optional for tor for better connectivity and anonymity] launch Tor Browser
    • (NOTE: windows might show a window saying it blocked access to internet for "security reasons" — you should allow the access)
    • python zeronet.py --tor_proxy 127.0.0.1:9150 --tor_controller 127.0.0.1:9151 (launch zeronet-conservancy!)
    • [for full tor anonymity launch this instead] python zeronet.py --tor_proxy 127.0.0.1:9150 --tor_controller 127.0.0.1:9151 --tor always
    • navigate to http://127.0.0.1:43110 in your favourite browser!

i've also recorded video of the process which should be uploaded shortly after a little bit of editing

please don't hesitate to try out and ask any question that may arise during installation !

(this is repost from inside the network @ http://127.0.0.1:43110/1TaLkFrMwvbNsooF4ioKAY9EuxTBTjipT/?Topic:1663514706_13oRBYqNeUr6Tvgt4KkAT9FT4XRiKFBjnE/+WIP+zeronet+conservancy+windows+development+installation+instruction)

[brainstorming] what stops you from using zeronet-conservancy?

    hi all,

zeronet-conservancy lead dev here . reaching out to the community of those who've been interested in 0net , but abandoned it for some reason , as well as those still use outdated ZeroNet client or ZNX

we're looking to boost zeronet-conservancy development and we have our own plans on what to improve , but i thought that in spirit of community project i should ask what potential users actually want from the project to start using it

there are no guarantees we'll fulfill any requests , but hey , any ideas are welcome !

Did the government shut this project down?

I'm assuming the overlords thought ZeroNet was too powerful and stole the technology and shut your project down?

    How to manually install Tor?

When I start Zeronet I get the warning:

ERROR CryptConnectionManager RSA ECC SSL CAcert generation failed, CAcert or CAkey files not exist. (The system cannot find the path specified.)

And Tor also gives an error:

WinError 10061 No connection could be made because the target actively refused it.

So then I go to the FAQ and perhaps I have to manually install Tor. It says to check manually_install.txt in the core/tools/Tor folder.

Except I don't even have a core/tools/Tor folder so I cannot access the instructions to manually install it.

    I'm running Windows 7

I have the latest ZeroNetX build.

I just extracted the folder and run ZeroNet.exe, no installation necessary.

    Can anyone provide assistance?
