/r/YouTubeMemes
This sub is for memes from YouTube.
/r/YouTubeMemes is a subreddit for sharing YouTube meme videos. Its purpose is as follows:
A hub for sharing videos of any length, primarily those above 30 seconds.
A place to discover YouTube channels which aren't regularly posted to Reddit, due to the fact that there's no fitting subreddit for them.
A place for YouTube content creators to share their original content, and recieve constructive criticism if they wish.
A place for discussions and tutorials for creating videos, including the use of video and music editing software.
The concept of "meme" is hard to define, so there is no rule which enforces whether or not a video qualifies as a meme. Instead, the community decides whst videos are acceptable through upvoting.
While this subreddit is related to /r/YouTubeHaiku, it is meant to be an independent subreddit. While reposting popular videos from YouTubeHaiku is allowed, it is discouraged.
What should be posted here?
This subreddit is for just about anything (as long as it's not blatant spam). Here are just a few examples of things worth posting:
YTPMV's: YouTube Poop Music Videos, which are music videos created by editing together various clips. The genre is primarily influenced by the Japanese video sharing site Niconico, on which people create songs by stringing together clips from anime or gay pornography (gachimuchi). In the west, it is common to use Old Spice commercials and clips of Jack Black to a similar effect. This genre of video is criminally overlooked and I hope this subreddit can rectify the issue.
Mashups: The art of mixing together various songs, meme-mashups have become popular through edits of the We Are Number One music video or channels such as Siivagunner or TripleQ, which specialize in audio-only content.
Television cuts: Modifying scenes in TV/Movies/Video games, etc for comedic effect. This can be as simple as splicing in an unexpected joke, or as complicated as modifying an entire episode of King of the Hill.
Skits: while not necessarily memes, skits are often hilarious and definitely worth posting. These can range from giving a cat stern looks to eating pictures of Jason Segel.
Mixed media: This one's a little nebulous, but some examples might include using 3D modeling software to poorly recreate scenes from children's movies, or using Microsoft paint and incoherent shouting to make a TV-show opening.
What should not be posted here?
Stuff taken straight from television or movies. For example, a unmodified clip from Tim&Eric or The Eric Andre Show.
Freebooted content: This includes videos stolen and reuploaded unchanged (for example, Vines reuploaded to YT) as well as compilations of stolen videos. Scummy channels usually do this to get ad revenue from the work of others. If you suspect a video to be stolen, contact the moderators and we'll take care of it.
The Rules
1.) No stolen content (see above)
2.) No streaming sites outside of YouTube
3.) No spamming your work. While there is no set limit on how much you can contribute to this subreddit, if we see your Reddit account is used to spam your stuff, that qualifies as spam.
4.) Don't be a
