Hello! I'm heading up to Yosemite this week for my birthday and I've never been before! We'll be staying around Mariposa and will have 2.5 or so days to visit the park. Wish we had more time. Looking for must see recs as well as any hikes that may be doable this time of year! I'm a photographer and can't wait to see it all!
Would also love any recs for:
-Things to se on the drive from LA
-Restaurants
-Any other must sees around the area!
Thank you!!!
Yo r/Yosemite, my fiancé and I have a small window in mid-June to check out Yosemite. We’re both in our late 20’s and in good shape with a lot of hiking experience. We’ll be staying at an air b & b in the park with great access to the valley.
We’re looking for a challenging day hike that will have a variety of terrain and great views. Very comfortable in areas with high degrees of exposure. We won’t have rock climbing equipment but do love a good scramble!
The 3 trails that have come up in my research are-
Upper Yosemite falls (doesn’t seem to be a technical climb & hear it doesn’t have a ton of variety in terrain)
Clouds rest from Tenaya lake
A combo of the four mile trail, panorama trail, & mist trail (as seen here- https://www.alltrails.com/en-gb/trail/us/california/four-mile-trail-to-panorama-trail-to-mist-trail?sh=ytiucr
Ultimately I don’t think we can go wrong with any of the above (or any other difficult trail for that matter), really just curious to see what those with experience would recommend.
We only have time for one major hike and want to make sure we maximize our opportunity to visit this incredible place
I’m currently 14 and looking for things that I can start to do so I can give me a higher chance of getting hired.im looking to be a Wildlife Technician Assistant or anything along those lines as long as I can live there!
anybody use the FSD or trust it with the priest grade?
This view at around 8 pm is just beautiful.
11.28.24. Snow and ice on the walls around the falls
I am an experienced but slow backpacker, new to Yosemite. I don’t like taking routes with a lot of people or fighting for a highly desired permit, so I am totally willing to travel to an area far away from the popular parts of the park. Are there any routes you all could recommend that are beautiful, with good elevation, ~7-12 miles per day depending on difficulty of that day’s route? Preferably a loop. Summer. Thanks in advance!
Dirtbagging living out of my car working seasonally around the U.S., spent last summer climbing in the Tetons and this winter I’ll be backcountry skiing a lot in Colorado. Looking at spending this summer on a handcrew for wildland fire as close to Yosemite as possible.
I plan to use whatever off time I have climbing in Yosemite and the surrounding area, but all of my last climbing experience is mostly scrambling. Most extreme I did was free soloing the Grand Teton via OS (5.4), which is semi popular to do. Really the only thing I know how to do with ropes is rappel haha.
Any recs for courses in the area that are affordable and will let me learn more about trad climbing? And for someone who is in great shape (endurance/strength/crossfit background) how feasible is climbing something like El Cap in their first Yosemite season without shelling out hard earned cash for some guiding service?
Anyone know what that conditions are like up by Hetch Hetchy right now? Looking to do a 1 or 2 night backpacking trip next week to laurel lake or rancheria falls, but slightly worried there could be some snow.
Also if anyone has any other recommendations for 2-4 day hikes in the area I’d be happy to hear them.
Thanks
We came to Yosemite today 11/28/2024. Our kids wanted to play snow sledding. Appreciate if anyone suggest a place to enjoy our kids.
Some insight on best way to do this for us when traveling my plane from NY and renting a car out of SF. Buy our own tubes and life jacket at sporting goods shop locally once we get in or rent at Curry Village. Just wondering how busy the activity will be if we try to rent. Is it very popular to rent? Would we be better off just buying the stuff and skipping rental lines and crowds? Of course we'd have to leave it all at our Airbnb in Yosemite West. TIA
Thanks to those who previously helped me find the location of valley view which was perfect this morning (11/27) for my proposal to my now fiancée!
Also thank you to the couple who offered to take engagement photos on the spot! Please DM me if that was you!
Anyone been on this day? Im thinking everyone will be shopping OR will thousands have the same genius idea as me and it will be just another holiday weekend?
I will have a trained service dog (for a medical task/reason) with me in Yosemite this weekend. Very excited!
Will we be allowed to do the 2 hour tour of the Valley Floor? I plan to do most of the paved hikes due to safety and such but wanted to know. TIA
I was planning to hike up to Glacier Point via the Four Mile Trail tomorrow (I'm aware there'll be snow and likely ice). The trail conditions page only makes mention of the JMT being closed to Nevada Falls. I know they usually close the gate on the Four Mile Trail below Union Point at some point, but I'm not sure how up-to-date they keep the trail conditions on the website.
