Does anyone have any recommendations on the best view for a proposal in Yosemite during late February? I’ll be in Yosemite to photograph the firefall but I also plan to propose to my girlfriend. This will be my first trip to Yosemite. Thanks in advance
I am traveling with family, and wanted to get suggestions on places of interest, which are enroute to San Jose. Some places where we can stop over for lunch and it's not too much of diversion. We know Casa Fruta is one place, any other places to eat..with a toddler and senior citizen.
The National Park Service has initiated a project to improve the visitor experience in the so-called Mist Corridor, including the trails between Happy Isles and Half Dome, emphasizing the stretch below Vernal Falls. We are currently in the public comment period. Important upcoming dates:
November 13: Virtual Public Meeting (4pm-5:30pm PST)
November 23: Comment period closed
An introduction to the project and links to more detailed information and the public comment site:
Tioga Road (continuation of Highway 120 through the park) and Glacier Point Road will temporarily close on Monday, November 11, at 4 pm. Call 209/372-0200 (then 1, 1) for updates
This also means the recent few posts about backpacking off Tioga Rd is a bad idea.
If my family stayed in Mariposa in late June and drove to the park. If we left the house by 730 how long would it take to get in the park and start hiking?
Headed up this weekend for some hiking with the family. Youngest kid is 11, and can do 3-4 miles before getting too grumpy.
With that in mind- any recommendations for a hike that would showcase some nice fall foliage? Staying in Groveland, if that makes a difference.
Thank you
It’s just for two people and we’ll be coming in from the bay area. Any places that still have reservations that are relatively nice and warm?
Yosemite National Park is hiring wildlife technicians for the 2025 summer field season. Please see the attached flyer for more details. There are two separate job announcements (avian and terrestrial). We recommend applying to both announcements and applying as soon as possible as they often close early because the applicant limit is reached quickly.
Biological Science Technician (Wildlife) Terrestrial (open 11/4-11/11/2024) - https://www.usajobs.gov/job/816213100
Biological Science Technician (Wildlife) Avian (open 11/11-11/24/2024)- https://www.usajobs.gov/job/816333100
Anyone visit Yosemite today (Friday)? Do you think we need to be there early due to long lines to get in?
We’re going to the lower falls and also wondering if there’s water flowing.. someone said there’s barely anything.
Planning to get there 10am and maybe going back Sunday
Planning to hike an overnight loop beginning and ending at trailheads along Tioga road. Odds I'll be able to hitch a ride there from Crane Flat & back to my car?(which seems I'm not allowed to park along at this time)
best
I am looking to try and nab a wilderness permit for Lyell Canyon using the 40% quota available 7 days in advance. I know it’s done through recreation.gov but I cannot find the EXACT url. I’ve been going from link to link on the site for a while. Does anyone know it?
:)
Saturday should we drive up to Taft Point Trailhead and hike to Taft Point, Sentinel Dome, and Glacier Point and watch sunset at one of them? Which one should we watch sunset?
We are driving up to Yosemite Saturday and getting there around 1. What good short trail can we do in the afternoon before we drive up to glacier point for sunset? We were thinking lower yosemite falls trail but the water is dried up. Sunday we are doing vernal and nevada falls via mist trail.
I moved to California last year and live in the bay area. I've done a ton of hiking in the eastern sierra and drive thru the park on 120 really frequently in summer and fall, but I've never actually visited the valley, let alone in winter. I would enter via 140 which I know is lower elevation and closes less frequently for snow, but I still have a couple of questions.
Hi,
I'm visiting Yosemite this weekend with my parents who are here from outside the country. They are slightly older, and not very keen on hiking but can do up to 0.5 miles easy trails at a time. So, we'll focus on some easy hikes and driving within the park to different view points. What are some must-dos in the valley so we don't miss out on anything important?
Also, would we need any snow chains to get into the park this weekend?
Any kind of suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks in advance!
Hi!! My fiance and I decided to move our elopement up last minute and are looking to find any photographer for our ceremony. We would really just like some photos of us outside the courthouse. If there is any possibility of this it would be amazing!! I have reached out to a few but having a hard time hearing back in time.
Hi! I’m taking a friend to Yosemite for their first time next week and I’m looking for trail recommendations that show off the park best. So many hikes are forecast and road closure dependent this time of year but I’m trying to come up with a list of options to have on hand. Both of us are avid hikers, so all level hike suggestions are welcome!
