First year engeineer here. What's the easiest courses from these?
am i able to drop a course that is mandatory? for me i have to take ADMS 1000 but i messed it up really bad already and tomorrow is my midterm, i don’t even know if i should study or not because i don’t know if i can drop that course since it’s mandatory. also would i be able to do that on winter instead?
Is there a group chat for Nats 1745 (Jesse Rogerson). I have a research project and I don't know what to do.
no matter how hard i try to study for math 2030 (stats) it dosent click. I genuinely don’t know what to do. Its my second time taking this course and i’m just fearful i might have to drop it and take it again later. I already failed the first midterm and the class avg wasn’t any better (51.2) I even tried taking a different professor this time but i still don’t get the material. AND THERES BASICALLY NO ONLINE RESOURCES.
^^
Mainly institutions in the US like the Ivies, UC Berkeley, MIT, Stanford, UMich and so on. I was wondering if it were possible.
Hi everyone, my brother was attending York up until reading week and did two midterms. However right after those midterms he got an acceptance to a university abroad and so he dropped all his courses.
The problem is that ever since then we can’t open up a new OSAP application for the university he got accepted to as it keeps getting cancelled.
We tried to cancel the York OSAP application multiple times but it just keeps saying that we can’t since it says that he’s still enrolled and finished a potion of the study period in their files.
It says to contact the financial aid office, we did and there was no response or help from them.
Can anyone here give some advice and help us out on what to do exactly or who to contact?
Thanks 😅
i fucked up and took nothing but liberal arts courses in highschool and only later realised i want to do something medical. will it be possible to pivot to nursing (from 2nd entry id assume) by initially taking a degree in something like health studies.
Does anyone know where I can do my internship for BA Educational Studies or an education policy consultant position.
Hi guys,
I'm back doing in-person classes after having left for 4 years due to my struggle with obsessive compulsive disorder. I am not cured from it (don't know if I ever will be) but i've forced myself to go back to school full-time so that I can graduate (I have 2 semesters left) and get a job due to my parents/family financial state.
I am really struggling with essay writing. It takes me forever to write things because I get fixated on trying to write an acceptable sentences & paragraphs and end up rewriting 50 versions of it. I have gotten better with reading (I read assigned texts under 10 times now, it used to be 20+), and improved on turning out the work in a reasonable amount of time but with the volume of due dates assigned after the midterm, I need more time.
I have accommodations with the SAS but I had a really bad experience at the start of the semester with a professor who accused me of lying about my reasons for requesting an extension and told me to "just write". I never make demands and always ask politely whenever I make a request. I haven't used my accommodations since that incident because I hate the feeling of having to justify an illness that is my personal hell.
Does anyone have advice on how to navigate accommodations with Professors when you have a mental illness? Is it appropriate to disclose details with professors? I don't know what to do. Am I expecting too much. Please be honest and real with me, I take zero offence. Thanks in advance
No matter how much I try to learn, I cannot solve any problem. Lab Test was a disaster. And Midterms don't look any better. No other course made me feel like I am the dumbest person in the class.
I am trying to find out what the first semester courses are but the websites are so confusing. I didn't get my schedule yet but I want to start preparing.
I did really bad at the end of highschool despite being the smart kid and taking 1 course per semester (in grade 13). I don't have adhd, just had a really bad mental health crisis that affected my ability to focus. I AM READY TO SHOOT ALL THE WAY TO THE TOP NOW. any advice would be helpful.
Seen at my friend’s suite (no I did not pick it up).
I just applied to graduate for June 2025. What do I do now?
Am I suppose to apply for the convocation ceremony? If so, how do I do that? (Or do I need wait until York emails me when I can do that?)
Also regarding graduation pictures, how do I go about that?
Would love any info regarding graduation. Thanks!
Hi there, I'm a first-year biomedical science student and I wanted to take a business course for the winter term. Before I was thinking about switching my program because I wasn't sure if I was confident with my program anymore and felt business may be easier and manageable. I haven't taken any real business courses in my life, and I wanted to try out a business course so that I could get experience of what business is really like. I wanted to choose a business course that opens up the idea of what business is like for business students without the intense pressure of workload. Something easy and manageable yet still provides the whole business idea without switching to business as a major. Are there any courses which you guys recommend?
So, long story short, I want to go to York University Open House at Keele Campus tomorrow, but I didn't sign up for the occasion (Sales Ended). Is it ok if I just go anyways? I know I will be let in, as it is a public University, but will they not let me attend lecture halls to listen to the program presentations or asking questions at the booths?
This is the link to sign ups: https://www.ouinfo.ca/universities/york/events/1820
i’m in grade 12 and i wondering how many math courses are REQUIRED for the bsc program. i love bio and chem but math is making me rethink whether to do a bsc or ba.
also physics is not mandatory right?
Are we allowed to get a copy of a previous final exam completed? Or to simply review it? or is there a maximum amount of times?
I noticed that one of my teacher of a class I failed last semester re-use the EXACT same questions and doesn't provide any sample lol.
What happened? Honestly seems like such a sweet guy, and he just passed away?
If you're anything like me, you know how absolutely annoying it is to park at this damn school. All the affordable lots are a 10 minute walk away (yay for exercise, but who wants to do this in the winter ?!) and the parking passes make no sense financially if you're not going to school in person 4 days per week. I wish I had the option of taking transit, as it brings you directly into York, however as a student that lives in a suburb with no transit that's NOT possible for me. So we're forced to pay daily for parking, fine, but how does it make sense that more than 2.5 hours is $10 flat rate ($15-20 in more expensive lots) and most Uni classes are minimum 3 hours, essentially you're forced to buy the day rate. Great. If you're not as stupid as me, maybe you won't forget to pay for parking on the morning of your 8:30am exam while you're rushing to class, and not get fined $75 fucking dollars for parking unauthorized. Get real?! NO WHERE in the whole damn City of Toronto is more expensive than missing a parking pass at York U. It's ridiculous that they expect students to be able to afford this $75 parking offence, when most of us are here with student loans and OSAP support. That's more than double the standard rate of $30. Yes, it's my mistake to not buy my ticket but after months of doing it daily, it's bound to slip my mind once. How do parking authorities feel this is fair for students?! I personally can barely work more than 15 hours a week at my part time job as a full-time student, and I barely make ends meet. WHY do we accept this bullshit, it's extortionate and evil. Anyone else sick of this stupid system? Pls comfort me as I cry over this outrageous penalty for an easy mistake.
Hi!! im interested in the 2nd entry nursing program at YorkU. Can current students share what their schedule looks like?
Hi! I'm in section D with William Pietro for Chem 1000 but he is awful! So I found out that Tihana Mirkovic teaches at the same time as he does so I just started attending her classes. The problem is I don't have the slides. Could someone in her class or someone who has had her for Chem 1000 before send them, it would be a real big help and it could save my life 😭😭😭😭
I want to apply for med schools I need to be a part of research. How should I do that? I have no clue? Can someone pls help me
Hi All!
I've been looking at going to YorkU for the 8 month - UX Design Certificate.
I went to College for Graphic Design, and have been working in the field for sometime now - but really am getting tired of the position I'm in. ( I work in the print industry, which has been rewarding, but stagnate in its own right as well.)
I feel confident going into a UX or UI program will help me get into better positions but wanted to hear from anyone whos taken / finishing the course(s) and how you've faired in the job world after.
Is having a design background helpful here?
Appreciate any insight,
Thank you,
Hey everyone, I wanted to share my experience in York University’s accounting program through the Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies (LA&PS). If you haven’t accepted your offer yet, please consider these points carefully. And if you’re already enrolled, here’s some advice to help you manage the challenges.
The Downsides:
Policy Inconsistencies and Lack of Enforcement: LA&PS has several policies that should protect and support students, but the faculty often fails to follow or enforce them. This inconsistency creates a confusing and sometimes unfair environment for students, especially when legitimate issues arise.
Unstable Course Management: Course outlines and requirements can change frequently throughout the semester, sometimes with minimal notice. These random changes to course outlines are a direct violation of LA&PS policies, which are supposed to protect students from unexpected shifts in coursework. This is especially challenging if you’re balancing work, family, or other commitments outside of school.
Poor Teaching Quality in Many Courses: While there are some dedicated professors, many within the accounting program do not teach effectively. Understanding the material often requires significant effort outside of lectures, as course content may not be clearly or thoroughly explained.
High-Stress Environment and Limited Support: The combination of poor teaching and inconsistent faculty support creates a stressful environment that makes it hard to focus on learning. This led me to take a leave of absence from work just to manage the program, which is something to consider if you’re currently working.
Important Note on Addressing Concerns:
If you need to raise issues with professors or faculty, know that you are protected as long as you address these matters respectfully. Students have the right to voice concerns without facing repercussions, provided they are not harassing or threatening members of the faculty. Knowing your rights can empower you to advocate for yourself.
Advice for Current Students:
Lean on TAs and External Tutors: In many of my courses, TAs and external tutors were essential for understanding the content. They often explain topics more clearly than professors, making it much easier to grasp complex material.
Stay Organized and Proactive: Keep a close eye on any course updates, and clarify changes with professors or TAs immediately. This is crucial, given how often course requirements can shift unexpectedly.
Build a Support Network: Connect with peers who understand the challenges of the program. Study groups and shared notes can provide significant support.
Know Your Rights: Remember, if you have concerns, you’re allowed to address them as long as it’s done respectfully. This knowledge can help you feel more secure in advocating for fair treatment.
To future students, carefully consider if this program is the best fit for you. And to those already in it, stay resilient—there are ways to make it through despite the challenges. Good luck to everyone!
I've heard some math courses get a flat boost of 5-10%, is this true for 1310? If I got say 75% would that become an 80%? Thanks
Hi! does anyone know when exactly we can start booking appointments for June 2025 graduate portrait at New Paramount studios?
Are there any other professors who teach EECS 1022 besides Mufleh Al-Shatnawi? I'm finding his teaching style a bit difficult to follow and am having trouble understanding the material, especially since everything is online. I’m considering dropping it this Fall 2024 and retaking it in Summer 2025. For those who recently took the course over the summer, how was it? Was there any difference in the syllabus, and were there any projects?
