My dad and I used to go to the Engadiner every summer roughly 1983 through 1990. It started out as a ice cream stand and became a restaurant in the mid 1980s. I loved going there as a kid. Visited the UP about 20 years ago and it was closed.
I'd love to hear anyone's memories of the place. I remember the owner was a really cool guy and took a lot of pride in the place.
Are there any WNBR events in the UP, or any interest in having an event? Do you think people up here could be accepting of something like that?
Recently heard Rusty Chevrolet by Da Yoopers and didn't actually know they were a band, I just always thought they wrote books/ silly guides. Anyhow I was curious what your favorite songs by Da Yoopers were as they have a pretty extensive discography. Or Better yet what are your favorite songs about the UP, or songs that capture the UP vibe. Not sure if I know any outside of the Da Yoopers and the Sufjan Stevens album.
My friend is trying to find a local UP mechanic that has a lift that can handle this bus:
"I have a 1984 GMC Vandura GAS short (4 window) skoolie I need work on. Hoping to find somewhere to bring it within the next week or two. It's been tough finding someone.
Barron's doesn't have the proper lift Quality Car Care is booked out for almost a month Don't even recommend Crossroads. 😬
Any leads? Hoping to stay within a 30 mile radius of Marquette but not opposed to bring it down to Escanaba if need be."

I’m originally from Michigan, but I’m living out of state currently. I’m seriously considering going to NMU if I don’t get substantial scholarship or aid from other Michigan schools. However, I’m nervous about what the social scene and student life is like.
Any info appreciated <3333
My wife and I are moving to the UP in a year or so and around that time is gonna be Deer and Duck season but I got the regulation digest and it doesn't make that much sense to me with all the point restrictions, districts, permit for this and that (I never made it to duck).
Can someone take a couple minutes and help me make sense of all this? Doesn't have to be too in depth, just enough so I don't get cited lol
Recently, there was a bust of 5 sickos looking to have sex with a minor in Ishpeming, and "Takedown with Chris Hanson" was there. Here's an interview with Chris a local TV station conducted recently about the bust.
Unfortunately this is the second bust this year performed in Marquette County that Chris was apart of.
Fuck you
Hey y’all,
I was born and raised in the Keweenaw, but when my international friend asked about the Native American tribe in the bay, it dawned on me I never learned really anything about the people there or their culture/ history
Is there any museums or anything of the sort to learn about the native Americans of the western UP specifically?
Thanks!
Kid and I are heading up to NMU in early November for their presidential scholars competition. The school will be showing her around / interviewing her Sunday afternoon through Monday morning and, based on the itinerary will dive into all things NMU.
We will arrive Saturday afternoon, and so will have Saturday afternoon/ evening and Sunday morning to ourselves.
Kid likes hikes, outdoors, coffee shops that are cute and cozy, old bookstores, live music (bluegrass / banjo / acoustic anything preferred)
Any suggestions on places I could take a teenager like that?
Also, any thoughts on NMU? Any graduates or current students here that can offer a perspective? (She doesn’t want MTU for a variety of reasons)
Kid wants microbiology or clinical diagnostic sciences for a major.
I know this is a very vague question. I live in the western UP (interior twshp)I have always seen the bags of apples for feed at the gas station and decided to snatch one off the tree out of the deers reach and take a bite. Pretty damn tasty!! I have about 10 of these trees on my property and am trying to figure out what kind of apples they are. I have done a little digging and see them referred to as Liberty Apples, can anyone confirm?? I would take a picture but as you know the 8000mph winds have stripped the leaves so it's just some sticks with red apples left not very helpful for identification. They are mostly about palm sized. Would love to plant a few more but the species would help to know if I should try to seed or graft. If anyone has had success with grafting these or seeding I would love to get some advice
Let the battle commence.
Fuck you
The lights are ripping right now. Super visible even in town. Looking forward to the moon setting !
It's not a cult though, right?
