Subreddit for the greatest video game ever made. Xenogears is a 1998 JRPG Sci-Fi epic, published by Squaresoft and released on the PlayStation. It was directed by Tetsuya Takahashi, and written by he and his wife Kaori Tanaka (alias Soraya Saga). Xenogears tells the story of Fei Fong Wong and a group of dynamic followers, as they journey across the world to overthrow an all-powerful and mysterious organization.
Xenogears (ゼノギアス Zenogiasu?) is a science-fiction role-playing video game developed and published by Squaresoft (now Square Enix) for Sony's PlayStation. It was released on February 11, 1998 in Japan and on October 20, 1998 in North America. The game was never released in PAL territories. It was re-released by Squaresoft as a Greatest Hits title in 2003, and on the PlayStation Network on June 25, 2008 in Japan and on February 22, 2011 in North America.
Xenogears follows protagonist Fei Fong Wong and several others as they journey to uncover the truth behind mysterious, cabalistic entities operating in their world. The principles and philosophies of Friedrich Nietzsche, Sigmund Freud and Carl Jung influence the plot, character design, and world of Xenogears. Additionally, the symbols, theological concepts, and devotional practices of several world religions are represented in fictionalized forms in the game.
Major psychological themes are the nature of identity and human memory, particularly as these relate to the phenomenon of dissociative identity disorder. The relationship between humanity and machines is central to the game's plot, as indicated by the presence of giant robots dubbed "gears," which almost each playable character can control.
Overall, Xenogears was well received by critics, with a 91% rating on Game Rankings and a score of 83 out of 100 at Metacritic. It was voted the 16th best video game of all time by readers of Famitsu in 2006. Xenogears has shipped 1.19 million copies worldwide as of March 31, 2003.

I think that Fei's final Gear should not have been called Xenogears. I think it should've been called Weltall Omega. Maybe combine the two, make it Weltall Omega: The Xenogear. It would be a much more fitting name, given that Lacan had Alpha Weltall and this would go alongside the first thing you see when you first play the game.

I figure a good deal of you that follow Xenoblade stuff were already aware of this announcement, but there may some like myself that are really only Xenogears purists that may be interested in hearing about this. .
Personally I don't care for the mainline Xenoblade games that much. But XCX hooked me with it's huge sci-fi story that felt like it was setting up for much bigger things. If you like the big picture story of Xenogears, XCX may scratch that itch if you never had the chance to play it on the Wii-U.
Light spoilers ahead, but I just got through with the part of the game where you have to defend four generators in Shevat before opening the gates to Solaris and I can't find a way to upgrade Billy's gear Renmazuo without apparently making it worse? The health upgrade to bring him to the five digits tells me it will make him the same/worse, but I can't find anything else to help him. Does anyone know if this is a glitch or if I'm missing something?
So far as I know, there are only two hacks/mods/whatever out there that change up XG's gameplay. One of them is not very good and I only ever played it because I had literally no other options if I wanted something different from the base game. But now I know that PW exists, I'm curious how others have found its changes to the gameplay?
Would you say the game is more of a rebalance than a "hard mod?" Is the increased challenge noticeable or just barely there? Either way I'll give it a shot, but I'm interested to know what I have to look forward to.
Having a lot of trouble getting this to run at a playable frame rate. The beginning cutscene is mostly fine at about 60fps and (mostly) clear audio, but the moment I start the game, it drops to around 40fps and the audio stutters so bad it’s unplayable. Also of note; if I let the intro cutscene play out to completion it hangs at a yellow screen. If I skip it it drops me into the beginning text at 40fps with the stuttering audio. I’ve tried messing with numerous audio, video, and latency settings, but nothing seems to help. Bummer that I paid like $10 for the HD texture pack and the game isn’t even playable 😭 anyone got any ideas? I’d list all I’ve messed with settings wise, but I don’t really remember what all I tried and I kind of don’t really know what I’m doing so 🤷 never had this much trouble emulating a ps1 game before. Please help!
NOTE: I checked the FAQ and changed my settings accordingly. There was one setting that contradicted the installation instructions that came with the texture pack that I left alone but everything else matches!
EDIT: almost forgot! My specs; intel iris xe integrated GPU (I know, I know, but trust me it usually runs most games fine) 2gb vram, and 32gb of ram. Intel core i5 4 cores 8 threads @ 2.4ghz cpu.
i haven't had any issues booting games on emudeck before, everythings fine and well tune, but when i tried to boot the game in disc 1, it's just a black screen, why?
I put it off for a while and realized I didn't put the instructions in the box. Would any of you have a scan or an electronic document of it? Thanks!
I'm Italian and i want to try Xenogears after really liked all xenoblade series.
I would like to experience it on the original platform and i found this.
Do you think that the game will work on a Playstation one?

Man, this is the best book ever.
Made using a combination of Perler and Artkal mini beads
All in the title I don't have a PC to patch it unfortunately, thanks
A while ago I heard that the Nortune Battling Arena is something that can be made playable online vs. other people. I saw this topic a while ago and I was surprised to see how developed the metagame is for it, with gears that have wiki entries detailing their mechanics in a 'true to genre' way, with details on frame advantage, rekka, and zoning, mirroring the type of analysis that games such as Street Fighter and Tekken get.
Given the rise of online playability for fighting games that didn't traditionally have them due to new tools and software, would it be possible to have a little community where the same is being done for Xenogears and further develop the metagame and understanding? I'm not casting my hopes up for it to be huge, but maybe it can at least be a thing?
Thoughts?
Title says it all folks

edit: they are doing reorders on all of the kits So if you missed one news your chance. they Didn’t reproduce the original weltall from bring arts but I’d recommend getting weltall ID and weltall from bring arts.
Although I initially ragged on weltall ID , it looks amazing in person and looks just like in the game. The stock pictures make it look weird but in person it looks exactly like in game . Bring arts weltall also looks amazing in person . In my opinion it has a lot of detail and stays true to the simplicity of weltall as a mech . You can get bring arts weltall from yahoo auctions or jp Mercari for the cheapest prices . Although this is a fan made 3D rendering I do believe that this captures weltall and this is how the bring arts figure looks https://x.com/PictoDev/status/1767005812105363487/photo/2
I've seen a lot of posts from people creating AI generated images of old RPGs. Chrono cross, Chrono trigger, etc. They look incredible!
Does anyone know how to create this using Xenogears?
Hey everyone, I'm writing up a big narrative analysis on Xenogears as part of a university project. I've already got my own selection of ideas, themes, and specific parts of the game I'd like to write about but it got me curious on what parts the general community likes or analyses the most. Open to any discussion from "I like this scene because it's cool" to deeper stuff referencing the various religious and philosophical themes too.
