Noob question: Are there any mods to remove bugs?

Pick up the game 3 weeks ago, absolutely in love with.

The bugs are killing the experience for me though. I run into the 'stuck under the Avenger' bug constantly. I can shut the game down then reload the last save, but this just leads to the 'soldiers cant move unless they take damage' bug.

Any fixes available? I'm playing on docked steamdeck if that makes a difference

I think my LWR save just died

Well, that sucks balls. I was assaulting a base, and now my game crashes when I load the game. So close to the end game, too.

I guess that's on me for playing bronzeman.

So what's the lore stuff behind the alien rulers?

I'm aware that Xcom's old science team is what created these abominations much to the Elder's dismay given their specific modifications to the normal species. But given the alien nest mission, it appears that the viper king was living there to avoid the elders, have young vipers, etcetera. The Elders wanted to keep that species one gendered.

So. That said, since we know the king isn't mind controlled and they are a sapient species, why did he immediately go murder on the humans not involved with the science team? (IE. Your XCOM guys) Why does he not fight advent? How is he able to psionically teleport? And if applicable in the lore, is there an explanation on how the rulers 'skip' ahead in turns?

And aside from the berserker rage the queen has, why don't the other two either?

Do you think we’ll get any new X-com games any time soon?

I just recently replayed X-com 2 and Chimera Squad, still just as good as I remember. I wonder if there’s been any news on the series being continued? There was stuff set up in 2 and Chimera Squad that could lead to sequels and I really want more Torque if possible.

How did the alienxHuman civilization even work?

Aside from the obvious of the Aliens committing genocide and using an untold number of humans on bad things, how did the surface civilization even work? Like what did civilians think of mutons, Archons, the chosen (namely the hunter who liked spending his time in normal cities) or giant snakes walking around on a daily basis? As the crew always talks about, where did all the food come from? Did nobody talk about the lost ever?

And on a less serious note, the viper strip clubs mentioned in Chimera, did those already exist before? Lol

So like, was there ever an explanation as to why sectoids weren't allowed to wear clothing during XCOM-2 or were the Elders just freaky like that?

Which shooting animations do you prefer?

In XCOM EU/EW, the game only showed you cool shooting animations when you killed an enemy

In XCOM 2, the game shows you a "cool" shooting animation when you miss an advent soldier at point blank range, or just about every time you shoot, hit or miss.

Which do you prefer? Animations all the time, or Animations signifying that you accomplished something?

Alright, here's my idea of XCOM 3.

Basic plot setup: The Elders, in a last ditch effort, attempted to connect to the psionic powers lying deep within earth's oceans. Due to the work of the commander and XCOM, their attempts to sieze control only managed to awaken the untamed power. Now, XCOM must establish a new alliance around the world, building bases of operation and psionic research sites among others. Some of the aliens, now no longer under the elders' psionic control, join humanity in an effort to establish a future for themselves. Remnants of ADVENT attempt to regain power, seeking out the lost elders in an attempt to regain global power. The psionic powers deep within the earth begin manifesting their will, controlling the minds of aliens and humans alike whilst also mutating others into psionic amalgamations through which it attempts (Insert evil goal here).

The story of the game should have multiple paths and endings based off of critical decisions you choose to make throughout the course of the game (Ever get tired of the same story missions the second or tenth time through?)

Active Factions: --------------------------------------------------

XCOM+: Humanity's finest. You, the commander, take head of XCOM in an attempt to reclaim the world once lost to otherworldly powers.

ADVENT Remnants: Much like EXALT from the first invasion, ADVENT becomes desperate in their genetic modifications, recklessly augmenting humans and aliens alike in an attempt to reclaim the power of the elders, and therefor control of the world.

Psionic Power(What lies within): A power not understood, is it a being? is it an alien? Whatever it is, its causing trouble. Fanatic Templars, mind controlled humans and aliens, and psionic amalgamations make up the ranks of the (insert faction name).

Maybe others, but this is what I have for now.

Each faction has their own leaders and champions. Champions work similarly to the Alien Rulers, providing mini-bosses throughout the game to defeat. (Having a set number, like 3 per faction, but having more total champions would allow each run to be different, as you would face different foes each time.)

Classes: -----------------------------------------------------

Sniper:

  • Snipers are team oriented, being able to deal out significant single target damage, and keeping a keen eye out for danger on the battlefield. The Sniper's two designations are The Scout, and The Assassin. Scout gains abilities that allow you to gain intelligence over the battlefield and over your enemies, while assassin gains abilities to do more focused damage, and assist in the take-down of harder targets
  • Base Class Feature - Squadsight. (Long Watch included) (We wouldn't want it any other way)
  • Assassin Abilities
    • AMR - Punch a hole straight into your enemy through their cover. Deal less damage, but have better accuracy against targets in cover, possibly destroying or degrading your enemy's cover in the process.
    • Immobilize - Shots you take cripple your enemy's movement, with a chance to immobilize them for 1 turn, and reduce their movement every turn after(Works with overwatch).
    • Dead-eye - (XCOM 2).
    • In The Zone - (XCOM EU).
    • Ever Vigilant - (XCOM 2, Specialist).
    • Banish - (XCOM 2, Reaper)
  • Scout Abilities
    • Binoculars - significantly increase sight range without alerting the enemy. You gain this bonus for as long as you don't move.
    • Scan Enemy - (Free action, cooldown) Scan your enemy, allowing you to see their ammo, damage, and special abilities they might have. Squad gains +10 to hit against this target.
    • Target Definition - (XCOM 2, Reaper) (This counts as squadsight, so you can shoot them)
    • Keen Senses - Always be alerted to nearby Enemy movement. Be alerted to enemies nearby even when you can't see them. (Like the Bio-electric Skin gene mod from XCOM EW)
    • (Working title) - Grant all squad-mates Squadsight for 1 turn.
    • Shoot and Scoot - You are granted one free movement after shooting at an enemy on your turn.

Assault:

  • The Assault Class specializes in "Close Range" Combat, flanking and obliterating any enemy they face. The Assault Class has two designations: The Gunslinger and The Rogue. The Gunslinger specializes in the use of their sidearm in close quarters combat, and The Rogue attacks from the shadows, leaving a trial of destruction in their wake. (I was the least original with this class)
  • Base Class Feature - Run and Gun (XCOM 2, XCOM EU)
  • Gunslinger
    • Return Fire - (XCOM 2, Sharpshooter) Additionally, or when flanked. (To specify, this procs after being shot at, when flanked, or when an enemy steps within melee)
    • Lightning Hands - (XCOM 2, Sharpshooter) Lets be honest, this one's the best
    • Quickdraw - (XCOM 2, Sharpshooter)
    • Battle Lord - (XCOM 2, Skirmisher)
    • Trick Shot - A guaranteed hit with the pistol that disables the target's weapon(If they have one).
    • Blood Trail - (XCOM 2, Reaper)
  • Rogue
    • Shadowstrike (XCOM 2) - Additionally, Phantom (XCOM 2) (Yes, as one ability, because these two on their own are too weak in my opinion)
    • Conceal (XCOM 2) - Has a turn cooldown, rather than once per mission.
    • Rapid Fire (XCOM 2, XCOM EU)
    • Lightning Reflexes (XCOM EU)
    • Slugger - Shots taken with the Shotgun have a chance to stun the target
    • Dive for Cover - At the end of your turn, if you spent all your actions on movement, or if you used Run and Gun, Hunker Down (Only works in cover).

Heavy:

  • Heavys bring the big guns. They specialize in AoE damage and demolition. The Heavy Class has two designations: The Demolitions Expert, and the Machine Gunner. The Demolitions Expert controls the battlefield with numerous explosives at their command, and the Machine Gunner never lets off the trigger, sending countless bullets towards the enemy.
  • Base Class Feature - Recoilless Rifle (Effectively XCOM EU's Heavy's Rocket launcher)
  • Demolitions Expert
    • Bunker Buster (One use) - A special shot that can punch through walls and then explode. Smaller AoE, but higher damage and armor shred.
    • Pack Rat - You gain an additional use of your Recoilless Rifle (XCOM EU, Heavy, Rocketeer)
    • High Explosive - Increased Recoilless Rifle explosion radius and damage
    • Grenadier - Grenades equipped have two additional uses
    • Long Arm - Significantly increase the throwing range of all throwables.
    • Shockwave - Your Recoilless Rifle does extra damage to enemies near the center of the blast, and has a chance to stun any enemy within the blast radius.
  • Machine Gunner
    • Shredder - (XCOM 2, Grenadier)
    • Suppression - (XCOM 2, Grenadier) Additionally, overwatch will activate if the enemy attempts to attack
    • Belt Fed - Weapon cannot run out of ammo and no longer needs to reload
    • Brace (Only while in cover) - +10 to hit as long as you do not move, and +10 to your cover bonus.
    • Spray and Pray - Shoot once at every enemy(Unless you run out of ammo). Has a chance to destroy enemy cover.
    • Bullet Swarm - (XCOM EU)

Support:

  • At this point I have been typing for hours, so as long as they can heal better than everyone else and increase squad cover bonuses, we'll call it a day.

Different Alien Races come with different features

Humans: Less likely to die outright, and more likely to enter a state of bleeding out

Vipers: Poison spit

Mutons: punch

Sectoid: Mind Spin

Additional options possible

Additional Notes: A psionic class and a mec class would be nice. Maybe since Tygan has access to gene clinic materials we can have gene mods make a comeback. Dr Vahlen is 100% involved with the Psionic Amalgamations, possibly even becoming a henchman or the main host for whatever controls the psionic powers deep within the earth. Maybe one of the story options allows you to take her back and have her back on your side. Cover with 8 possible orientations would be nice. More map variety would be cool.

Let me know what y'all think, and sorry for the long post.

Objective spawns outside of map

Is there any way to reach the objective here? It spawns outside of the map and I can't throw things at it either. Do I just have to reload the save?

I personally dislike using Repeaters and Mimic Beacons.

Not judging others' playstyles, just an observation.

Anyone else have a list weapons/utilities/upgrades/PCS/etc. they just can't enjoy using? Even if they're actually very helpful for the player?

I mostly play Xcom2 Vanilla, Legend Ironman.

Should I play Long War 2?

I've just finished XCOM2 WotC a few days ago, and I loved it. I didn't play it vanilla, however - I've played with a shitload of mods, most of them adding clothes and voices, but also some mods that had "LW2 Classes" dependencies, so I've had to try that too.

And I loved them. My first attempt at XCOM was unmodded, and I much prefer these classes to the vanilla ones. I'm already thinking about the second playthrough at a higher difficulty - but I'm wondering what kind of a playthrough it should be.

I know that LW2 Classes ports things, but it doesn't port everything - it doesn't include the changes to faction classes, for one. I know that Grenadier and Technical are a lot weaker than they are in the actual LW2. There's no Officer, no pistols, and so on. So I'm thinking about giving the actual LW2 a try, just for the class changes. Or rather the WotC port of it.

But I've also heard that it's difficult. Really, really difficult - that it actually makes you feel like you're an outmatched guerilla. Then there's the haven management, and the infiltration score, and all of it terrifies me. I've only beaten the game with massive save scumming, I'm not sure I'm prepared for a hardcore experience.

Give it to me straight - how bad is it?

XCOM 1 Long War: High speed permanently?

You can increase the speed with Alt+F9, but you have to redo that every time you load a game.

Do anyone know a way to make the speed increase permanent?

Edit: In LW 1.1 the mod "DefaultMiniMods" is inlcuded by default. If you edit "DefaultMiniMods.ini" you can alter GAME_SPEED_TACTICAL.

Anyone else gets bored of the late game or is it just me?

For me, the game gets a bit too easy, and the combat drops in quality because of that, you have amazing abilities, a 6 man squad, and near unlimited flexibility. The game becomes less about tactics.

I personally love the early game, it's very fun to have a small squad and have the ability to miss shots being very likely. So you'll be looking for high ground, setting up for flanks, and overall playing the game more tactically. That's just my opinion tho.

Berserkers can use Blind Rage even when not damaged?...

I've just started Guerilla Ops mission "Protect Device" with "Savage" SITREP. At first turn i just rushed and seen one pod with berserker and stun lancers. I do not engage and just end turn, and after that... Berserkers from 3 different pods across the map just one-shot one of stun lancers in their pods. I've never seen that. Is that some strange interaction with "Protect Device" mission where all enemies semi-agressive, so they can attack device? It was very bizzare.

What is the best Xcom "experience" in 2024?

So I'm looking to play Xcom again after a while of not playing. I'm wondering what the community generally thinks is the "best" in terms of the experience.

Xcom with long war?

Xcom 2 with long war / other mods for WOTC

Another game entirely?

[Long war] Skipping Harvest/Terror Missions to get meld.

Basically title - I am in mid October, and have realised I want around 400 meld. Aliens have shit for resources - 60-70 at the start of the month, and they have no bases - rushed MECs succesfully, and used them to assault their bases in late august/september. Is it ever worth skipping large landed missions to let ayys catch up a bit in terms of resources?
