Hi there, new here. I am just beginning my wire wrapping journey. Waiting on some supplies to get here. I have jewelry making experience using beads/beading wire, memory wire, etc but not specifically wire wrapping. I became a crystal girlie in the last year and decided I wanted to pick this skill up.
Anyway, I have a question. I have watched a lot of tutorials the past few days and everyone walked through the wrapping and then shows a finished piece that has had patina added or finished off in some way. But they aren’t explaining that part and I haven’t seen it talked about even in written step by steps.
So when working with copper wire or silver wire, what are you doing with the piece once you’re finished doing the wrapping part? How do you add patina? Do you put items in a tumbler for polishing? If so what is inside the tumbler? Are you just using a polishing cloth?
Also does anyone do any soldering on their pieces? I have also dabbled in stained glass so I have some soldering skills now too and wondered if I could incorporate that. I think that’d allow you to add some more flair while also not bulking up the piece too much!
Thank you in advance!
I finally finished this piece and love the way it came out. Was really inspired by one of my monthly subscriptions and just wanted to share the outcome. Picasso jasper, agate, brass findings and wire, tiger eye, and crystal.
Hi can someone explain how they order wire from Rio Grande? I am confused by the order page with a custom cut spot length or weight (i have no idea how much wire weighs how many OZTs) and also quantities at the bottom. I don't want to have to pay an extra 5 cents PER INCH if I dont have to. Please help lol.
I am just learning so I don't need a ton but I wanted maybe 10 feet? Not sure a good amount either.
I love the swirls possible with dead soft copper.
Hello there lovely people!
I am new to wire weaving and I am trying to make blobs at the end of my wire. I didn't have a butane torch so I used my camping stove (butane) but it wasn't melting properly. It not melting properly and I was wondering if I was doing something wrong? I bought the wire from Michaels and it says it is copper.
The ones that came up with google were low quality and too cheap for me to trust the quality. Any ideas?
Okay so I’ve noticed when I’m drawing up my design before I start a piece there’s always one aspect that does go according to plan. This time it is the bottom half of the pendant. I lazily just added the silver beads to fill space but I feel like it still looks incomplete. Can anyone give me some direction on how to finish her off? Should I just take the beads out or work around them?
