Alternative to Microsoft Journal?

I love Microsoft Journal, it looks great and feels great to use (I use a Huion drawing tablet and while it's meant for touchscreens with pens it still works well).

However it's so buggy. Copy and paste something and it'll paste in a random place, go Invisible, etc.

I've tried xournal++ and while its functional, it looks so much worse and doesn't feel as nice to use.

I tried Concepts but it doesn't work with a drawing tablet, my cursor just vanishes.

Does anyone have any recommendations which are nice to use and look at?

Voice to text for Windows?

On the Mac, I've been using tools like MacWhisper and Superwhisper to great effect for voice-to-text. They help me cut through my emails quickly.

Is there anything as good and efficient on Windows? I've tried Win-H and that doesn't do dictation quite as well.

Bulks Legit Sms sender?

I have a 100's of customers I want to text at one time and have them text back to my OWN phone number. This cannot be one big group where they chat with each other but individual messages.

I need to be able to create lists of contacts for separate messages and be able to import them and send. I have not found any software or service that can provide this. My phone is android and I use a PC.

Any ideas?

File manager with columnt about file count on folder

Being used a lot to that feature in Linux distributions file managers. Wanted that in windows also. Found an attribute in a big Mess of attributes, to adda column. And it didn't work. Googled it. And found, that it didn't work at all, and never worked from day zero. So searched up for other file managers, but so far no one can provide that feature. So, do you have some apps, that can do that neat feature?

Program like PulseAudio for Windows

The best thing about PulseAudio on linux was connecting to bluetooth and having audio played in my headphones to my PC and my microphone used on calls.

Phone link on windows is absolute trash. When on calls, the audio does not even go through nor do I hear anything, tried every fix but it is still not functioning and so I have to switch to my phone's speaker to talk.

So please help me find some, thank you.

Sticky Notes App with special requirements

Hello,

I'm trying to find a replacement for abandoned AT Notes, which last time was released 20 years ago.

The needed features seem to be unique.

I want the clear rectangle of the note - without a separate notes window, without a header, buttons, timestamps, or gradients. They should support Unicode and some kind of formatting (MD, HTML, or something similar) and notes should be bigger than 1 K of plain text. They should be able to be minimized and restored, show the full note after the mouse hovers, and be able to be hidden, deleted, and then restored. Copied, pasted, obviously. Also, it would be fine to create some reminders on notes - by the schedule.

But everything I'm investigating is simply hellowords or complicated hierarchy notepads.

Maybe somebody knows the significant replacement?

Nice emoji picker app

Hi, does an app that brings a system wide : emoji picker exist? I’d love a Discord-like emoji picker that appears if you start typing :emoji for example and  to become the emoji. I think something similar exists on macos via Raycast, to get a concrete example of what I’m looking for. I’ve already tried autohotkey and it’s not for me, as I’d also like an emoji picker menu window to open where I’m typing not to memorize everything. Thanks in advance

recommendations for a good free app/program to read PDF files with the following features?

I use the Edge browser PDF viewer, it's almost perfect for me, I only have a few things I feel like are missing:

  • I want to be able to copy part of the document (but copy as in select an area and copy whatever is there to another place in the pdf document, kind of like the select feature in the "Paint" Windows app).

  • I want the document reader to be able to detect the languages automatically I'm highlighting with the mouse and to apply the correct reading direction (in Edge it treats everything as left to right, so text in languages in different writing directions when highlighter to copy to the internet or some notes is being present backward.

  • I want to have a bigger varsity on the text and colors I can write in the document.

In general, I think what I want is a hybrid of the Edge PDF file viewer and the Paint Windows app with support for languages with different writing directions.

Looking for app that can sort large collection of short videos

Im a grandfather to a couple young dancers and I have been recording their dances since about the time they could stand. Thats been about ten years. So I have a fairly enormous collection of videos that are unfortunately not really sorted or even named logically. Most have the name that was given by the device recording.

Is there an app that can sort by date for example a large collection of videos with a terrible naming convention?

Is there any windows app that lets you view your instagram feed in a nice simple grid view where you can see a good bit of pics at once when scrolling through your instagram feed?

If you'te unfamiliar with the mac instagram grids app it was an app that was just this. But now I can't seem to find anything like this AT ALL for mac on the entire market. And to be honest I only use my laptop for work and web browsing mostly so if there's something like this for mac that might be enough for me to sell my macbook and get a windows laptop as crazy as that may sound because I am a fashion stylist so I have to scroll through instagram everyday for work and i am tired of only being able to scroll through one picture at a time. So please tell me there is something like for windows and if there is, I will almost certainly sell my macbook and trade it in for a windows laptop.

Is there a good app to search contents of PDFs?

*** SOLVED (Agent Ransack Lite)

I'm currently trying to search a couple dozen large PDFs with Acrobat and it is taking forever. Is there a better app that doesn't take a long time to start or search? This is on my Win10 machine but I also have a Win11 so it could be for either. I regularly have to search these PDFs and I get it will take time but Acrobat is not the answer for me. I'm up to date on all patches for all software on both machines.

I also have PDF X installed but I don't see how to search multiple files with it.

Any recommendations for better apps would be great. Thanks

Is there a way or an app to get squared screenshots

The current sniptool take rectangular shots and I can try to get square ones but it requires a bit of precision.

Is there an app that will let me take squared screenshots e.g 1500x1500?

Searching for a temp monitor for Windows same as hwinfo at MacOS

Is there such a temperature monitoring application for Windows that would have one icon in the tray, clicking on which would open a window with temperature data on all devices? (I know that I can have a separate icon for each device, for example in hwinfo for win, but this is not what I need)

Any windows apps to compare photo sets and find the best one in the bunch?

I feel like newer phones have this where you take 10 photos in a short duration and the phone compares them and suggests the best of the bunch. I believe the newest Google pixel has this

Anyhow I def don't want to have to transfer my 30k images to a phone so hoping maybe a windows app exist to offer this advice while I work to clean up my library. Thanks for any suggestions
