Hello everyone. I moved here recently and I am going on a trip soon and my only way of transport to the airport would be uber or Lyft. I was wondering how reliable they are in the middle of the night around here? Would it be risky or would I be able to get a ride? Thank you!
Has anyone heard any updates about the wildfire that broke out yesterday near Shawneeland/Mountain Falls? It was 10 acres when I called to report the smoke yesterday, and an FB post by the VA Dept of Forestry later said it reached 20 acres but no updates have been given since. I live near there and don't see any smoke but it's overcast today so it might just be masking it. With the red flag warning on today I'm very anxious š¬ but I don't wanna pester the fire dept if they're busy working to contain the fire still.
Everybody be careful today, use your ashtrays if you're smoking in your car (pleeeeease don't throw your butts out the window š) and hold off on the bonfires! The mountains are a tinderbox right now.
As I was wrapping up Halloween for the evening and taking my dog out for a walk, I watched a group of teenagers driving around the neighborhood laughing amongst themselves apparently hunting for candy. I was half a block away and watched them run up to my door and grab what I assumed was a fistful and run back to the car to their friends. They took my entire bowl of candy. The bowl itself, which I have used for at least 6 years to hand out candy. At least 70 pieces of candy as well since I had just filled it up at 8 to the brim. If this is what youāre letting your teenagers do on Halloween, congrats to you. I learned my lesson and no one will be getting candy next year, especially since I have no way of giving it to them. Thanks Winchester!
I haven't drank in over 2 years and recently a neighbor and friend of mine asked why I don't do some type of speaking or something to help others. And I can't stop thinking that maybe I should and that I do need to help others who struggle like I did for a long time. Now my struggles look different because it seems that everyone around me is wasting away in the bottle, but I feel like there's something I could do! I don't do AA classes or anything like that. I just have a strong will to be better today than I was yesterday! But with over 15 years of alcoholism in my life, I know a lot of patterns and ways to get around things that make you want to drink. Maybe getting it out of your system and talking about it and listening to someone else would help you realize you don't need it anymore! Any advice would be very nice
I know itās a stretch, but Iām desperately looking for towns or neighborhoods nearby that are doing trick or treating this weekend as opposed to Thursday on Halloween night.
I have always liked cars, all different types. When you ride around Winchester you never know what you are going to see. There are plenty of muscle cars and 4 X4 trucks, but occasionally I see a Ferrari or McLaren .
Drivers are getting worse, coupled with the enormous growth of the region and these tiny little onramps/offramps with old people merging at 35mph while Mr.Peterbilt is hauling going 90+ is creating these horrendous crashes almost every single day on the highway
Is it getting worse or is it just my imagination?
Hello! I am looking for feedback for anyone who knows someone or who may currently be working for / working under constitutional officers for the city of winchester (Treasurer, Commissioner of Revenue, Court, Sherriff, etc...) As I currently understand it, the employees/staff of constitutional officers are employed at the will of the constitutional officer and aren't treated like "regular" employees that have to go through HR, etc....
My concern is that the current political climate is so volatile locally and across the country, that city "employees" whose constitutional officer loses their election, those workers are then at risk of being fired when a new officer is sworn in that wants to bring in their own "team". I saw it happen with Frederick County in the commissioner's office, and I want to know if there is anything that can be done to perhaps get a motion or whatever to put those city employees under the direction of a "regular" manager/director and not subject to termination/severance due to political ramifications / term limits, etc..
In case I am not being clear, my scenario is for example - Commissioner of Revenue is up for election - the current commissioner either retires or doesn't win re-election, thereby putting their staff at risk for if the "new" elected commissioner wants to fire all the old leftover staff and build anew.
Is this something to approach the Mayor about, or City Council somehow? UPDATE: I am not a city employee but know several employees who are worried due to the current political climate / environment and thinking about any possible job losses in 2025...
Why does the siren go off in the evening?
New to Virginia and wondering why there are so darned many ladybugs all over the place? Theyāre flying around, all over my house, inside my house. How are they even getting in? Itās wild!
Are there any lumber or plywood vendors in the area worth checking out? I have some beginner wood working projects I want to tackle but would like to make my life a little easier with not needing to work the wood as much to fit my projects. Not as concerned with cost right now I just want to save myself some time if there are any places worth checking out in the area. Thanks!
I know some moving posts tend to get downvoted but here goes nothing.
We are thinking of moving to the area but we are from a place with beaches. We donāt need a beach but we are used to having that as a day time activity with our young kids. I was wondering if there any lakes or other water activities nearby that people do? What kind of outdoor activities are your favorites, especially if you have little ones? TIA!
Is there a restaurant in or near Winchester that serves a thick pork chop or bone-in pork chop?
But not $$$$ like L'Auberge Provencale ... looking for a place where the total bill for food would be no more than $150 for two people, drinks extra.
Pic for attention and reference.
Thx! :-)
Hello! Im 18, Iāve lived in Winchester my whole life and Iām trying to move out of home hopefully within the 4-6 months, but sooner is always a possibility. I wonāt get into too much detail as to why, just know itās a lot of familial issues :(. Google and Bing arenāt particularly helpful, so I was wondering if anyone knew about any cheap apartments or studios or something along those lines? Iām not really looking for a roommate, and I want it to be inside the city, but aside from that Iām not too picky about condition or amenities. As long as itās not collapsing/rotting, Iām fine with anything around the 900-1200$/month range. I just need a place to survive. Any advice for how to live on my own for the first time would also be super appreciated, thank you reddit :)
I had a great meal there a year or so ago but the last time I intended to have dinner there they were closed during the dinner hours.
Whatās the best place around her to get a legit massage?
Hello everyone, moved to the area a few weeks ago, work in Leesburg, also new to VA. I havenāt had much time to adventure out but looking forward to it.
Any local lore to know about?
What are they building across from raven oaks?
I noticed Costco sells lots of snow supplies, but historical trackers donāt seem to indicate a large snowfall YOY, does it snow much? (I love the snow)
What spot has the best trivia?
Are there any adult sport leagues?
Does the regional airport actually offer flights? My only experience with a regional airport was in Rapid City, but they had connecting flights to Denver. The website doesnāt allude to that being the case.
Any cool festivals or events in the area?
I am debating staying long term in Winchester but I have struggled here not having our favorite grocery stores (Wegmans/Trador Joes) and better food options (healthy options like cava, better restaurants). What are the chances we get new businesses to Winchester? Any news about new grocery stores or food places?
Where are the highest spots to drive too with a western clear view?
We are moving to Winchester this summer and my daughter will be 4 in August of 2025 and I would like to enroll her in a good preschool when we get there. Does anyone have any recommendations? We are not moving to a planned neighborhood so places that have preschools like Snowden Bridge are not an option. Thank you in advance.
The new episode of With Conviction is out! With Conviction follows a group of small town heroes searching for the friend missing from their lives and memories. In this episode, they face a living nightmare somewhere near Burnt Factory, then explore Ash Hollow searching for their missing friend.
And advice would be appreciated! Also, the only social media I have is Facebook :)
Edit: OH! Wait. I have an Instagram account that I don't use as well.
Are they legit? Has anyone actually talked to them or had the assessment?
