TLDR: Is there a "cut down small trees and toss them in a pile" service available for hire near Williamsburg?
Hello! I have come to you all for advice. New homeowner, don't really know what I'm doing. YouTube and DIY sites can only get you so far when you don't know what to look up. I live about 30 minutes outside Williamsburg, headed toward Richmond. I bought some land. Inside of the house is now livable, so I've started trying to make the land into something workable (fingers crossed for wildflowers and butterflies). It is way too much for me to handle in any type of a timely fashion. I want to know if the service I'm hoping for exists or if I will just need to spread the work out over the next year and do it myself. There are too many baby trees. They are growing in groves, starving each other out and making walking through the back yard very difficult. Think 20 trees less than 5" in diameter, in a 10'x10' square of forest. Repeat that several times over about an acre. I need to take down 100+ trees less than 5" at the base. Then, pile them up so they aren't strewn everywhere. Ideally, I want to tag all the trees I want to keep (the largest in each grove and all the trees bigger than 6" diameter) and cut down all the rest. Pile them up in one large pile on top of one of the old dead logs. (For a brush pile, for pulling sticks for peas to climb, etc. Maybe some walking sticks?) Is there a "chainsaw the tiny trees and pile them up" service in/near Williamsburg? There isn't any fence up yet, but I do have a survey of the land and the corners are marked. Three of the four property lines are currently visible, with string tied between trees. The fourth side is unwalkable due to the many baby trees right now. I'm working on it.
Any recommendations would be much appreciated. Mr. Moon is great but there are certain jobs he won't do. I have a men's blazer that needs to be taken in at the shoulder, that's all.
Hi Williamsburg! ISO suggestions of Apartments to check out. Semi retired but very young at heart. Looking for something with residents not too young or not too old. Hope that makes sense! Of course well maintained and walkabilty a plus. Thanks!
Do you all know if there are some free counseling or help groups in the area for adults? I’m stressed.
Long story short I kicked marijuana, but I substituted it with alcohol.
I've come the realization long ago that I had a problem with my drinking since doing that. I unfortunately made a mistake of inviting an old friend back into my life who also drank quite a bit. I'm at a 6 pack a night right now. I don't want to be. I need a good support group to help me kick this habit. I have a soft spot for this friend because we've known each other since elementary school, but he's no good for me.
Looking forward to hearing from you guys as far as groups go.
Thank you in advance.
Hi, I'm trying to figure out where we can stay that has a pool that is on the quiet side. Hoping not to be overwhelmed by kids running everywhere. I've looked at VRBO. etc., but I'd really like some resort amenities too. Any tips? TIA!
It felt so good to finally be back at Busch Gardens after a few years. This was our first time ever filming here, which is crazy because I've lived here my entire life. We decided to go with the 10 item sampler and try out some great Cajun food. Everything we had was great and I was very surprised with the quality and portion sizes. The shows were fun and very interactive, everyone was having such a good time! We will be back in a week or two to film some more and try event more food from the Mardi Gras event. Much love everyone and a big thank you to anyone that watches!
I saw a post about an id check in grove but it was deleted before I could read it. Any info about this would be appreciated.
Hey guys! I’m new in town for the next 5-6 months and looking to make some new friends or acquaintances! In my spare time I like usually playing Xbox after work since most my work during the day is strenuous, but with my weekends off with the nicer weather down here like today being over 50, I’m a huge skateboarder and really love getting out to the skatepark in James city but I realized there’s not a whole lot of people that skate other than a couple of younger kids that are adolescents (I’m in my mid 20s.) I guess all together I’d love to get out and meet people in someway but if anyone’s interested in cruising around, street skating, skatepark trips, etc; for a weekend day somewhere then feel free to comment below or message me! Sorry if this type of post isn’t allowed otherwise.
I heard there was some type of swim / race in July down the James River about a mile long, but I can't find any details online. Anyone know anything?
Is anyone aware of any apartments in the area that provide month to month leasing? My family and I are moving to the Williamsburg area as soon as we find a house. We are looking to rent while our current house sells and while we find a new one to buy. Must allow pets.
Thanks in advance.
Anybody know how well if at all are maintained at Long Hill Grove apartments are?
Hi all,
I tried using a crosswalk to get to my bus stop so I could return back to W&M campus after going to Target but when I had the right to cross no cars stopped 😳
Tried walking with confidence and double checked I was allowed to go but cars / trucks kept zooming by and I didn’t want to get hit over a bus stop 😭
Is this a common occurrence? Any tips on how to avoid using the cross walk to get to the #12 WATA bus stop coming from Target?
I don’t have a vehicle and had to take an Uber home because I couldnt get to my bus stop😔
I grew up in town but moved away a few years ago. My mother still lives there, though, and had to put her cat down today. I wanted to send her some cookies or a cake or something nice and comforting and chocolatey, so is there a bakery in town that will deliver? It’s been a while since I was around and a Google search didn’t show me anything :(
Thank you in advance!

I have a rip in a leather jacket that I really love, but I'm scared that trying to fix it myself will only make it worse. I'm interested in individuals or companies that have experience in leather repair, preferably near Williamsburg/James City County but willing to go elsewhere. Does anyone have any recommendations?
Looking to give back and help the community. There are so many issues from that need to be tackled so any organization that needs boots on the ground for a good cause I'm here.
Hey all! Has anyone made the drive from the Wburg area to Rva yet? My street hasn’t been plowed and I’m not sure what to expect along the way. Normally I would feel pretty confident but with the super cold temps I’m more concerned about ice!
Hi there! My family is coming from out of town and we will be there from 2/11-2/14! Trying to find some things in the area to keep us busy those days. Looking for activities during the day, restaurants at night… Two adults in their 50s, two adults in their late 20s, and I’m 11 weeks pregnant! If there isn’t enough to keep us busy, we’re considering driving to Richmond one of those days. I’m a bit concerned for the weather that week.
Looking for a reputable place in wburg or surrounding area to get my old ps2 taken apart and cleaned.
Hi all! Heading to Williamsburg in April for 5 days. Wondering what the “must see” attractions are and what we should skip? Advice on restaurants hits and misses! Anything would be helpful! Just a mom trying to make the best of her vacation with 3 kids! Thanks in advance!
Anybody know if there's anything planned to come into where earthfare currently located now that it's closing? Had some one tell me an ABC store but I haven't seen anything about that and strikes me as such a big spot for one especially with one already less then half a mile away.
I don’t know… I’m just watching the game at Pauls and I had a pleasant and chill week. I was hoping to see how my fellow Williamsburgians were doing.
Happy Sunday!
DOG Street Pub has a weekly 5k every Monday at 6 p.m. Everyone is super chill. You run 5 times, you get a free T-shirt. There are food and beer specials every week, including a $3 beer and $3 hot dog. Also, the staff is freaking wonderful and patient.
This is not a timed run. This is just a community get together. Some runners are really fast. Some people don’t run. Some parents bring their kids on trikes. Some people only go a mile.
It has been really nice meeting other runners. And since it’s a weekly event, it might help some people stick to their New Year’s Resolutions or Winter Arc or whatever people are doing nowadays.

I’m considering commuting from Williamsburg to DC about once a week via Amtrak. Does anyone here do this? I realize it would make for an extremely long day but any insights are appreciated. Thanks!
Edit: thank you so much to everyone that took the time to comment, I really appreciate it!!
I have a couple of healthcare questions for those living in the Williamsburg area:
How difficult is it to get set up with a primary care doctor? Is there a long wait period for appointments or are docs simply not taking patients?
How do you feel about your hospital system?
If the docs are great, are they being supported by decent administrators? I mean how are they will records, insurance, etc?
Thanks in advance for any input!
EDIT: Thank you all for your feedback!
