How to open and edit .pak files?

I’m trying to mod DKCR and everything is embedded in .pak files, I was wondering if anyone had a suggestion for opening .pak files and editing them? I’ve found a few, even an engine that can edit and mess around with the levels but it’s a few years back, was wondering there was anything more reliable before I started downloaded 8 year old solutions

How Perform a Syscheck

RiiConnect24's Guide is great for that!

Wiiflow Lite

  • Some versions of Wiiflow Lite come with default settings that cause a black screen on load of Wii games.
  • Consider updating to the latest version!
  1. Open Wiiflow lite settings.

  2. Go into NAND Emulation settings (it's got 3 pages of settings about NAND emulation) and make your settings match this:

Page 1-
Select NAND: default
NAND emulation: Partial
Select Saves NAND: default
Saves NAND emulation: off

Page 3-
Saves NAND Partition: SD
Use Real NAND Config: On
Use Real NAND Miis: On
  • Try to see if WiiFlow will play any of your wii games again.
  • If it still crashes/black screens:
    • Load WiiFlow again
    • Press HOME on the Wiimote
    • Select Reload Cache
    • Try playing a Wii game again

The Guide Wii Recommend

  • still RiiConnect24's guide is the best out there
    • its very well maintained
    • if this changes, we'll change our recommendation
  • do not use out of date guides
    • this doesn't mean all video/youtube guides are bad, just most of them
    • most print/web page guides are wrong/outdated in some way too
    • if you're adamant on not using RiiConnect24's guide please find someone who knows what they are talking about to verify that the one you use isn't wrong BEFORE you start to mod your Wii

Useful Link to Bootmii SD Files

  • Here you can find the direct link to the BootMii SD Files
  • This is the hackmii site and completely safe.

To Change a Drive From GPT to MBR

  • To change a drive to MBR on Windows
    • open disk management.
    • If you're on Windows 8 or higher, do Windows key + X and click on disk management.
    • Once you're there, find the drive you need to convert to MBR and right click on the area where it says "Disk" and then the number of the disc.
    • If it's not already MBR, you'll see an available option to convert to MBR disk. Use that option.

Updating You Wii System Menu to 4.3x

ISO/Game Image Management

WiiBackup Manager

  • Software to help you manage your Wii game collection.
  • It will split/convert/prepare images for transfer to your Wii Storage.
  • It does not do anything for GameCube images.

Witt Tools (Same As Above, But Nerdier)

  • has none of the 'frills' of Wii Backup Manager as it's more focused on image manipulation than collection management
  • has a much more complex interface (command line, unix-like)
  • it does work on Gamecube images

ISOtoWBFS

  • Command line
  • no collection management
  • no complexity
  • it simply does one thing; ISO to WBFS
  • there is also a WBFStoISO, but it's less useful

CIOS Offline Script (If You Have No network)

The Wii and Wifi

  • Your router must support 802.11 b/g
  • A lot do, but 15 years later, none are enabled by default
  • You must be able to re-configure your router
  • Phone hotspots often work
  • In the hardware section below is a listing for a Wii-Working Ethernet dongle

What USB Device Do We Recommend?

  • A good enclosure, with a cheap and possibly refurbished hard drive
  • The enclosure below is known to work with the Wii
  • Which means any hard drive you put in it will also work with the Wii
  • within the Wii's size limitation of > 2tb
  • Sabrient Tool-free Enclosure

Project: Playing Wii in My Car

Project: Playing Wii in My Car – Custom Wii Car Power Adapter

Hey everyone,

I've embarked on an exciting project to play Wii in my car and I’m thrilled to share it with the community. With the Sensor Bar embedded into the cover of the radio head unit, I created a custom Wii car power adapter that provides a stable 12V 3.6A power supply. Unlike other adapters with lower power ratings (3A and 3.15A) that struggle with USB HDDs and SSDs, my adapter ensures reliable performance.

Why I'm Doing It This Way

This custom Wii car power adapter is the result of extensive research and trial and error. USB Power Delivery standards can be challenging, with 11V 4.05A being optimal, but existing USB-C to Wii power options use the 12V 3A setup. Other dedicated options, which are often no longer produced, have lower power ratings (3A or 3.15A) and struggle to power USB HDDs and SSDs. I discovered that a stable 12V 3.6A power supply was essential for reliable performance, uninterrupted gaming, and protecting my equipment. Inferior products just weren’t cutting it, so I designed a superior alternative to meet the specific power needs of the Wii.

Key Features:

  • 12V 3.6A Power Supply: Ensures my Wii runs smoothly, even with external storage devices.
  • Built-In Safety Features: Includes over-current protection to keep my Wii safe.
  • Easy to Use: Plug-and-play setup with my car’s power outlet.
  • Reliable Performance: Handles the power demands of my Wii and all its functions.

Check Out the Project:

I’ve documented the end result on YouTube. You can watch it here to see how I set it up in my car.

Feedback would be great. If you have any questions, feel free to ask!

Any tips for a way to use the Wii Remote without AA Batteries?

Hi, i'm trying to figure a way to use the Wii Remote without The AA batteries.

I tried putting a USB cable with the bare wires on the positive and negative terminals of the controller and tried plugging the cable into a portable charger. It kinda works, but the controller won't stop vibrating, and i checked the voltage of the Portable Charger, and it wasn't even 5v, it was like, 3,3v or something.

If someone has any ideias of why this is happening or any other ideia of how to make the controller work without the AA batteries, i would appreciate.

(Observation: Please don't recommend rechargeable AA batteries. Besides taking a long time to charge, i really dislike AA Batteries and here in Brazil, the cheap ones, have a terrible battery life. I'm not going to spend 100 BRL (which is more or less 17.36 USD, using the direct conversion) which is a good amount of money here in Brazil on Rechargeable AA batteries. It's like you spent 100 USD or 50 USD on batteries. It's ridiculous).

(Observation 2: I asked almost the same thing in a Quick-fix Brazilian Subreddit, the difference was because I was looking for a similar idea for the xbox series controller, people on that sub weren't nice to me, so i'm kinda expecting some hospitality from you guys :3 )

(Observation 3: My Wii Remote is a third-party controller without the Motion Plus feature, because my old og one had the Nunchuk port so oxidized, that was kinda green, and the Nunchuk wouldn't work at all)

Changing the region of a USA Wii (or using a JAP keyboard)

I want to play the Japanese version of MH Tri but my Wii is region USA, which means that every time I try to put a name to my character the game freezes. I think it's because it's trying to pop out a Japanese keyboard that doesn't exist for my region.

So, what do I need to change the region of my Wii to JAP? How safe it is? Is there a way to use the keyboard in my USA Wii without having to go through that hazzle?

Anyone annoyed by the framebuffer video width?

I know it's what the Wii natively renders at, but it obviously isn't what was intended at all because it doesn't match the 4:3 video width output by the Wii. I know I don't have to use this setting, but it always irks me when someone uploads footage using this setting online.

Where to buy Wii to Hdmi connection?

Hey Guys, I’ve recently been trying to connect my old wii to my tv, but we all know Tvs are pretty much just HDMI connection now. I bought this adapter to connect but quality is awful. Just wondering if y’all knew a better way to connect wii to HMDI or if there is a specific adapter that is better quality.

To VGA mod my Wii, Or to Composite mod my LCD...

I wanna make a wii portable with a roughly laptop form factor, and I would also like to keep the DVD drive. Which means this is gonna be THICC. I know with a software hack, The wii supports native VGA, (but not all pins make it to the av port) and Im planning on running it on batteries, and to run this LCD on batteries, the easiest solution is a replacement driver-board. And if I doing that, I can order one that actually has native composite in. Depending on how I do it, If I keep the WII pretty much stock, I might be able to just slot the wii into the thing like one big cartridge lol. I dont plan on building controls into it, But maybe a slot I could store a wiimote. Thoughts?

Best wireless Gamepad for multi emu gaming?

Hey - I’m looking to setup an old Wii as a multi emu machine.

Has anyone got a favourite, wireless gamepad that is easy to setup for most emus? (PS1, GameCube, Dreamcast, N64, etc…?)

Go easy on me fellas. I’m new to this.

*vWii on WiiU, NOT a real wii* USBLoaderGX very buggy on WiiU

Sorry if this isn’t the right place but wiiu hacks removed my post. Usbloader is super buggy on my wiiu. Other than the very apparent bugginess, things like non rounded corners, no buttons on game select etc etc.

Launched straight from homebrew channel so not a wad issue. version 3.0 r1281 downloaded from GitHub and not the openshop version with sd issues.

Is usbloader just weird on the WiiU? Should I just use wiiflow?
