Wetshaving - isn't all shaving wet? Somewhat. Wetshaving is how barbers used to get the ultrasmooth shave of legends. The secret isn't more blades and more canned goo but a single wicked edge. Shaving is 50+ days of a woman's life and 85+ for a man's.
Do you want to spend that time hating or enjoying what you are doing?
The better way is wetshaving; come and see what "they" didn't want you to know.
Tips, tricks, questions and bragging about shaving with straight, double edge or injector blade razors.

First shave went well. Didn't find it hard at all. Not bbs yet but no nick or cuts.

Since my merkur bit the dust looking at getting something a bit better. I’ve heard great things about both. I’ve been wet shaving for 5ish months and I truly don’t know which one I should pick.
I like that the Rockwell is adjustable but I’m not sure I’m ready for that yet. Henson is pretty user friendly from what I’ve seen. Both seem like they will hold up for some time.
Does anyone know of a cologne that pairs well with Fine's Barber Blue aftershave? I know that the aftershave scent doesn't last very long, but I always try to pair my aftershave with a similar cologne to avoid the scents clashing. If it helps, the site says that the aftershave is based on Floid Blue aftershave
I mainly use cartridges but have seen good things about the Henson razors for shaving heads. I tried a Wilkinson Sword in the past with normal shaving cream and ended up with dry skin on my face and nicks on my scalp. Is the Henson that much better? Would the Wilkinson with a shave soap provide better results/comparable to the Henson? I value speed most mornings, but I also want to be able to get the closest shave when I am dressed up for a wedding or other event and would be willing to spend some time and money to get it right.
What’s the best double edge razor blade you’ve ever used in terms of balanced sharpness / smoothness?
For me, right now, it’s the Nacet but I still have a lot of blades to try. I have perma sharp, rapira lux platinum, voskhod and sputnik next. My beard can’t grow fast enough.
Also, how do the chinese and russian Gillette blades compare?
I’m curious, how do you all evaluate the smoothness of your shave to call it BBS? When it feels smooth with the grain, or against the grain, in all directions? I ask because I’m content with my wet shaving results, but it has never been as smooth, in all directions, as it was after using my foil shaver. But my skin is definitely better off with my wet shaving routine, especially my neck.
Hello fellow wet shavers! My first razor was a Henson mild aggression which I soon replaced with what I believed to be a Henson medium aggression or ++ model. After almost 6 months of shaving and wishing the razor was a bit more aggressive even with Bic CPs/Feathers I noticed both of my top cap components each have a single + engraved as opposed to one being + and the other being a ++. Can anyone confirm that their Henson medium aggression does in fact have a ++ engraved?
Both are excellent quality and I very much enjoy them but I’d like to confirm before I reach out for an exchange.
Thank you!

Bid on a very odds and sods lot of razors on eBay, and the star of the show was this very nice looking old Stahly razor. Surprisingly the mechanism still works like a charm, but honestly I found it shaved better without the vibrations. Very smooth shaver, and the big handle was surprisingly ergonomic, like shaving with a brush handle. Will play with it some more, a neat bit of history.
Also! Seaforth! Black Watch, Gillette Silver Blue (might like these more than my usual Platinums? hard to say), Zenith Copper Boar 28mm, B&M Le Grande Cyphre splash.

Hey, followed the same prep and shave as usual, I shave my neck twice a week, so on the 3rd and 7th day. Using a Merkur 34c. Hot water shave post shower, lots of lather. Never had this issue before.
Suddenly in almost a straight line I managed to get about 8 ingrown hairs 2 weeks ago. My shaves since are just irritating them further and opening the skin, causing bleeding. Doesn’t seem to be healing or progressing at all.
What is the sage advice for this situation? Do I shave around them for a few weeks?
Razor blade was surprisingly smooth, didn't expect that. Even though I had some minor irritation afterwards. First time using this soap and aftershave so might as well been because of that.
● Pre: Shower, Proraso White
● Brush: Proraso Professional Boar
● Lather: RazoRock Acqua
● Razor: RazoRock Game Changer 1.05 wtg
Rockwell 6C (3 plate) atg
● Blade: Personna Platinum
● Post: Proraso White Balm
First shave with a Personna, and initial reaction is a slightly less smooth shave than the Feather, but less irritation as well, we'll see how the next few go. Much better experience with the Acqua this time, really needs water though. Love the scent, like shaving on the beach, but not loving having to work it so much. Overall a really nice shave. Have a great weekend!

I'm new to wet shaving. When I shave, I still get very minor irritation. And when I shave against the grain, I get a lot of irritation. I've heard aftershave is unnecessary, face wash and a splash of cold water achieves the same. I've also heard they're great and helps with inflammation. Same question goes for preshave, although it seems like it makes less of a difference
What is your experience? I was thinking of getting a Proraso aftershave balm or Proraso preshave cream. I have good experience with them. I use a Merkur 34C with Derpy premium blades and Proraso cream.
It would be nice to get a closer shave against the grain, but is irritation just unavoidable with that stuff?
I was supposed to go to Spain for fun next week but I’m staying behind because my child recently had surgery.
Anyways I just started wet shaving, and I love the process and ritual. But when traveling I like to pack light.
I use an alum block after shaving, after shave balm, and I use a brush/bowl.
It seems like a lot to pack. Especially a bowl though I could just use a coffee mug or something.
What are your travel preferences or solutions? Travel brush and travel bowl? Or do you just use a canned gel or foam? I have 2 electric razors but they’re not enjoyable to use, anymore. That is what I usually brought.
I only recently made the switch to a pre electric lotion. Before thus I would usually wash my face with a cleanser and then use a pre shave oil before I then electric shaves, but i was advised to try a pre electric lotion, and now I'm a bit confused on the proper routine for this.
After shaving, can I use a facial cleanser in the shower? Or do I just skip it for the day?
I've been wet shaving for awhile (15+ years) but just recently started thinking of diversifying may shave gear options.
In your experience, do sites like Maggard's, Stirling, Italian Barber, House of Mammoth etc typically have Black Friday/Cyber Monday sales?

4 passes, 2 WTG, 2 ATG. Baby-butt smooth, perfect way to start a Saturday!
I rode the cap on both ATG passes and it was such a breeze. No cuts, no irritation, no nicks. I have found my for life razor until and if it breaks down.
As for the Nacet, I love it. It will be in my regular rotation but next, I want to try the Permasharp when my Stirling and B&M soaps arrive which should be in a few days time.
Happy Saturday!

First loaded a Wilkinson Sword blade but it didn't feel good so I changed it so a Astra SP and it made the shave great, one to add to my rotation.
So for context, I started using a DE razor a while ago, but I occasionally go for stretches where I don't shave. I have been using the Wilkisons Metal handle, and have been trying to find a way to shave against the grain without completely ripping up my face. I tried switching blades a couple times, and creams, eventually found that Astra SP with Cremo did a solid job. Took a break from shaving for a while, and came back, and for some reason now everything is just awful again. Shaving against the grain ends up making me bleed like crazy conpared to just irritation as I used to get. I have been shaving my legs, and even with zero pressure, on a nice flat piece of stretched skin, it will cut me everywhere, sometimes leaving like a grid as though it's cutting under every hair too deep. Even with the feather it gets really tuggy at times.
The only thing I can think is that the handle is too aggresive for my skin/hair, and is consistently cutting too deep and tugging the skin. Just looking for recommendations for very mild handles. It doesn't have to be the absolute most flush shave, I just want a little bit more than going with the grain without ripping my face apart.
I have tried to go slow, gentle, adjust the angle, changes blades, lubricate my skin more, it just doesn't work.
