Wetshaving - isn't all shaving wet? Somewhat. Wetshaving is how barbers used to get the ultrasmooth shave of legends. The secret isn't more blades and more canned goo but a single wicked edge. Shaving is 50+ days of a woman's life and 85+ for a man's.
Do you want to spend that time hating or enjoying what you are doing?
The better way is wetshaving; come and see what "they" didn't want you to know.
Tips, tricks, questions and bragging about shaving with straight, double edge or injector blade razors.
New? Curious? Have questions? Go nuts - the only thing we don't do in here is shut up about shaving!!!

I've been searching for "my blade" for a long time in my R41. Of all the blades I've tried, it seems the one that best balance sharpness vs. smoothness is the Personna Red. What are your guy's thoughts on this? Are there any others I should try before I pull the trigger on a bulk order of them?
I know these are all very easily recognizable but here’s the rundown anyway for fun
Brush: Omega boar hair beechwood handle
Razor: King C Gillette
Cream: Proraso White
Blade: King C Gillette
Aftershave: Gillette gel
Given my preference, I'd be using my Wade & Butcher straight razor which is a giant heavy beast that cleaves through anything and does a great job shaving.
BUT, I just don't have time for it anymore so I've been using a cartridge razor and thinking that I'll get back to doing it properly someday.
I'm finally coming to the conclusion that it's been years now and I'm not going to have the leisure to use my straight razor until our son leaves for college so I'm looking for what I believe is the next best thing a safety razor. I should have done this long ago, or at least a week ago so I'd have more time to research and catch the Black Friday sales. But my wife wants to wrap up something and this was my idea so here I am...
Since I've never used a safety razor before, I'm finding it hard to compare them. There's a lot of talk about how aggressive different razors are, but how is that compared to a straight razor? Slant? Open comb? I don't know.
Anyway, going to take a look in the pinned information hoping to find some good vendors to buy from and good models to look at but I figure that MOST people are coming from only having used cartridges so maybe the recommendations of what's good for beginners to wet shaving may be different than for someone that's been through the straight razor learning curve.
Again, sorry for asking such a common question on short notice but I'll welcome any advice you have for me and if now, I'll do my own research and try to stick to something sort of "intermediate" or maybe go with an adjustable design.
Thanks!
Im a transgender woman that unfortunately suffers from having a beard, im looking for as clean a shave as possible, but also being on some medicines means that my skin is much more sensitive and a bit thinner than most mens, i was wondering what the advantages of multibladed razors were (eg. LEAF or Ninfeng) and if getting a multibladed safety razor was recommended for sensitive skin or if a single blade safety razor would be enough.
I'm looking at some Yaqi heads, such as the Mellon, but can't find the thread/screw dimensions anywhere. Even the handles on the Yaqi store have no mention of this so I don't know if this would be compatible.
I cannot find a hand position in which I can both control the blade and not have my hand in front of my eyes (blocking the mirror). What an I supposed to do?
New straight razor from u/sustainashave super fast shipping especially since I'm international from him will update later on how it shaves.
SOTD: 12/02/2024
Razor: Schick G8 Injector (c.1953-57) Blade: Schick , 2nd use Brush: Simpson Trafalgar T2 Bowl: Dirty Bird “Bill” Bowl Soap: Barbasol Sensitive Aftershave: Pinaud Citrus Musk “Eau De Cologne” Aftershave Additional Care: Norelco G270 (trim goatee) Additional Care: T.N. Dickinson’s Witch Hazel
I missed Barbasol Sensitive - good to have it back. I’ve been needing more consistent lather lately so Barbasol provides the cushion needed. Work it with water with my Simpson into my face, then add a layer, then Aces!
(my first post)
First SOTD (SOTN) for me. NO Firefighter, alumn, Proraso Red. Futur clone, BIC Chrome platinum, C&H Broom.
Nice and simple.
Long story short - in 2022 I bought Wilkinson plastic razor. I tried it and hated DE shaving after that. I was using cartridges for another 2 years. Now (since July this year) I am happy DE razor user due to King C Gillette.
So today I thought why not to try this Wilkinson razor which I really hated? I improved my technique, now I'm using brush, shaving cream instead of dry Gillette foam, doing 3 passes instead of 1, trustworthy Astra blades instead of Wilkinsons. It must be totally different than 2 years ago, right?
Well, it was much better because my face was not all red from irritation and blood. But still horrible experience compared to King C Gillette or Muhle R89 which I'm using now. I did half of 1st pass and I said screw it, I'm going back to Muhle. This thing is just terrible. It scratches rather than shaves. And even with that small part of shave I had one cut which is almost impossible with Muhle! Besides that this razor feels ultra cheap. Well, because it's cheap. But in my country there's saying - if you're poor, you can't afford cheap things.
I don't want to offend anyone but in my opinion Wilkinson is just trashy company. Many years ago I bought some Wilkinson disposable razor and it felt dull from the start. I also heard bad opinions about their soap and brushes. But as we all know YMMV.
Brush: Runeman Nordic Shave Design
Razor: Henson Ti22 + Alpha Shaving Works Techtanium Handle
Blade: Feather
Lather Sample: House of Mammoth - Tobacconist
Post Shave: Thayers Unscented
Tobacconist smells like what I imagine Sherlock Holmes smells like and I'm a huge fan. The HoM Tusk base is legendarily slick and now I get to smell like I just solved the case of Baskerville family's hound problem. We're only on day 1 of the advent calendar but the bar has already been set extremely high.
I've been using mild razor for years and I wanted to try something sharper, for the sole purpose of having closer shaves. Research has driven me to purchase this RazorRock GameChanger 0.84.
It's well built, sturdy, and feels good to handle and easy to control. It's sharp, like truly sharp so you have to be careful.
I have sensitive skin, and I did give me some skin heat afterwards but probably because I am not used to that, and it will get better over time.
Overall, I am extremely happy for investing in such a good razor.
Brush: Balea men, Croap: Palmira, Razor: Merkur 42C, Blade: Wilkinson sword, ASL: ELIOT green aspect, Have a nice shaves gents,
I still consider myself new to this. Been maybe 3 months. I am learning a lot, sometimes the hard way. I have experienced the effects of a bad razor/blade combo. I notice that some soaps/creams lather faster, thicker, etc than others. Things that have a direct effect on the shave itself. What I have not experienced is a way in which the brush would have an effect on the shave. Now, I only own 2 brushes, one is the absolute cheapest Amazon synthetic, the other a Proraso Professional Boar. The synthetic is definitely softer, the boar is clearly better quality, but I haven't experienced any difference in the quality of shave regardless of brush. Again, still pretty new to this, but can somebody make a case to me on why the brush matters, beyond preference of feel on the face? Much appreciated.
Yesterday for the first time i used a feather blade in my R89 and it was an unpleasant experience to express myselfe carefully. My go to blade for the R89 is a Wilkinson Sword (Germany) and with that i can shave basically on autopilot with no problems whatsoever. With the feather i had several nics on my neck. I felt some tearing and i had to do several touch ups. However, i was super cautious about the angle and the preasure so maybe i was a little tensed and messed things up.
Has anyone better experience with this combo? I will definitely try more shaves with it but i am curous about your opinions!
Maybe feather just brought me back down to earth that my technique isn't perfect after all?

Hii So im trying to find a Christmas gift for my boyfriend, and i thought it would be good to upgrade his shaving game a little bit. Right now hes just using the first things he saw when he started and i want to help him. So for his birthday i gave him a new brush because he used his dads old one🫠
I have bought a Truefitt&hill shaving cream but now im questioning how you use it. Like do i also need to buy a bowl for him to lather it in with the brush. Or should i find a Shaving soap i stead.
Im also looking at finding a aftershave for him, but im totally lost on that right now
So i hope that someone i willing to help a girl out here😅
Someone was earlier posting about slow draining from shaving. It is certainly true that my drain slows down more quickly than my wife's, and that is certainly due to my shaving soap.
Has anyone found a particularly good drain cleaner for this? I was thinking something that focuses on degreasing would probably be good. I think the more moisturizer-rich soaps are probably slowing my drain down faster than other soaps.
Is anyone aware of information or studies on how many shaves can be gotten out of an ounce of different types of soap?
Right now I am using Noble Otter's 'Tis The Season (very nice scent for Christmas season), and I am noticing that it gets used up much more quickly than some other soaps such as Floris.
In comparing price, we tend to compare ounce to ounce, but in reality, a soap that is twice as expensive per ounce is just as cost-effective if it lasts twice as long.
Not really a huge deal, but it might be interesting to know how to adjust for longevity.
For context, my boyfriend has to shave daily and he has really sensitive skin, I'm talking he bleeds during shaving everyday. I'm trying to get him something nice for Christmas, but I'm worried that I'll get him a new razer and it wont stop the bleeding. Does anyone have any ideas or recommendations? Please help!! Thank you!!
was about to pull the trigger on a Razorock, then I read that it is good BUT nowadays better to buy something more modern.
What would you suggest? or should I rather stick with Razorock Plissoft?
I have been converted. I am now a rotary shaver loyalist. No more ingrown hairs, no more nicks and cuts while shaving, no more badly inflamed skin making me look like a hormonal teen during an important work meeting.
But I am torn.
I will miss testing out different DE razors. I will miss rubbing a cold alum block across my face. I will miss the ritual of lathering a cream with a badger hair brush.
Thank you to my wicked edge brothers. Maybe we were meant to meet in another life. Thank you for introducing me such a wonderful hobby. I curse my sensitive skin and I bid you all adieu.
