Wetshaving - isn't all shaving wet? Somewhat. Wetshaving is how barbers used to get the ultrasmooth shave of legends. The secret isn't more blades and more canned goo but a single wicked edge. Shaving is 50+ days of a woman's life and 85+ for a man's.
Do you want to spend that time hating or enjoying what you are doing?
The better way is wetshaving; come and see what "they" didn't want you to know.
Tips, tricks, questions and bragging about shaving with straight, double edge or injector blade razors.
New? Curious? Have questions? Go nuts - the only thing we don't do in here is shut up about shaving!!!

The more I see people rank blades they like, the more I see a distinction between people that just prefer super sharp blades like Feather and those who prefer the smoother blades like Voskhod or Derby. The interesting thing is I either see Voskhod ranked super high or super low. What do you guys think could be the cause of this? There has to be something other than just "different blades for different people!" .. like some sort of science. For the record, I have thick ass wiry hair and I prefer Voskhod or Derby. Something like the Indian Gillette Wilkinson's are basically my worst enemy.
Razor Yaqi Flipside Blade Razolution Brush Frank Shaving G7 Soap TGS Solo DFS Headshave
Razor: Rockwell 6S
Blade: Personna Med Prep
Soap: Phoenix Artisan Accoutrements Gondolier
Brush: Yaqi Timberwolf 26mm
Post: OldSpice Original
I had a wonderful lathering experience with Gondolier. It takes such a small amount to make heaps of thick lather. And the scent is absolutely amazing! However, despite lathering the soap for 20 minutes and adding so much water, the lather still felt somewhat dry and the razor going over it was not as slick and smooth as with other soaps, so there is definitely a lack of slickness in CK-6. Everything else about it is great, so It’s still a solid soap base in my book.
The personna med prep blade was one sample that I whipped out for this and it performed wonderfully.
But the main reason why the shave was amazing is because I went WTG & XTG on R4, then swapped to R2 for third ATG pass and another ATG cleanup. It went fast since R2 is so mild but great for ATG passes.
Definitely my preferred shaving routine.
I have been shaving with a safety razor since I was 18 and since the Ukraine conflict has been going on the chinese razor blades are just more blunt like I'd have to sometimes mid shave get a new blade or have I just got a thick hair? .
I bought some platinums at the store because the blades I ordered on RBC haven't arrived yet, and I noticed the box said "made in China", is it the packaging facility, or did they move the manufacturing? Online stores still list Russia as the country.
Razor : Mühle R89 Soap: EJ Sandelwood Blade: Wilkinson Sword Splash : Proraso Green Not pictured is the Nivea Aftershave Balsam
First time using these blades and thrid overall DE shave so not sure if these blades are better than the Mühle one that came with the razor.
All in all a pleasant time.
So I finally decided to buy a Stirling soap and damn, I should've done it a lot earlier into my wetshaving journey. I already had it for two days on my bathroom counter and I literally have to take a whiff of the soap every time I go to the bathroom as it smells so good. Other than that, it's my regular setup since ever. Merkur 34C loaded with either Personna or Feather blade, cheap Balea boar brush from DM, alum bloc, which has unfortunately fallen on the floor few weeks ago and chipped, so I have to be a bit careful when using it and classic Czech made Alpa 378 aftershave splash which I will probably use for next few years as I stocked up on it when it was on sale for like 50 cents a bottle in my local supermarket. Result - A comfortable three pass (WTG, XTG, ATG) BBS morning shave with almost no feedback from the alum.
Another amazing shave, the Gillette paired with a Wilkinson Sword blade shaves so smooth. The horse hair Zenith bursh just feels great and all paired with my favourite soap, Noble Otter King is just like a match made in heaven.
What a great start of the day.
I love a good menthol kick in the morning and Stirling Iced Pineapple coupled with Proraso Green balm are here to deliver.
A very photorealistic scent true to it's name. Freshly cut, sweet pineapple right off the puck with the cold menthol piercing the sinuses. Amazing.
I remember when I started wetshaving more than 10 years ago, Stirling was all the hype on badger&blade forums. I wanted to try it since then. Now after my hiatus from wetshaving I decided to give it a go. It did not dissapoint!
A great shave. Slick, smooth and fragrant.

Greetings,
Every time I shave I always get the same results irritation, razor burns, nicks/cuts. I started DE wet shaving 5 years, so meaning I have 5 years of DE wet shaving under my belt and should have figured all out by now. Every since, I started I tried multiple blades, soaps/creams, razors and brushes and I still can't figure what setting to use for my tools. I have coarse beard with sensitive skin, especially in my neck area.
In my disposal I have:
Razors: Rockwell 6c and Henson AL-13
Blades: Bic Chrome Platinum, Gillette 7 O'clock Super Platinum, Gillette 7'ocklock Sharpedge and Treet.
Brush: TRC- 24mm synthetic brush
Soap: Proraso Coarse beard and Stirlings unscented beeswax
I don't know which blade plate to use on my Rockwell 6c, even though I tried every blade except for #6 and what blade to pair it. Or give Henson another try?
Thanks
I love Clubman Pinaud (pronounced Pee-Know...French) aftershaves. I am especially fond of the Musk, the Bay Rum, and Whiskey Woods. There are more quality items on the market, especially proper Bay Rum Aftershaves that steep actual Pimenta Racemosa leaves. However, there is something so nostalgic and charming about Clubman.
But, hear me now. Decanting into a glass bottle is so important for all Clubman products. Decant is just a fancy word for pour. I apologize if some of you know this already, but the word "decant" comes from the world of wine. To pour the wine into a glass carafe to let the wine breathe (the oxygen allows the flavor to "open up" a touch).
I recommend that all of you who use Clubman Pinaud aftershaves go to Michael's or wherever, buy yourself a small glass spray bottle or a mason jar. I've heard that some dudes even use Frank's Hot sauce or Tobasco glass bottles after they have finished and dish washed them. Any glass works. Pour it in there. In 3 days, watch Clubman become an even more amazing product. Some say it's even better after more time, but really after 2 weeks, it becomes what it is going to become, in my mind.
The glass bottles I use are darker spay bottles or darker bottles with a dropper (you know to keep it from light...like wine or olive oil).
I want to share this video about decanting Clubman Pinaud by a very fancy looking Englishman. The decanting part is like 20 min in, around Exhibit A.
That plastic really gives it an oddly metalic acrid smell. Happy shaves, friends!
After browsing here for a month or so I finally worked up enough courage to give it a shot. Zero nicks and zero irritation after. Turns out I was nervous to try it all for nothing. Just wanted to thank everyone for putting all of the info here in one place to help us newbies out!
I loved this soap when I first opened it last October. Used it every other day up until tonight. I have the aftershave too with the menthol added good stuff!
so long story short i’ve been shaving with a safety razor since i was 14, (i turn 20 in a week) but honestly didn’t enjoy it, and never had much facial hair to begin with. i recently actually got into treating my shaves as less of a chore and more of an enjoyment, i currently shave w the same van der hagen i started with when i was 14, i honestly find no issue with it and dont have any irritation after shaves just dryness, which i need to get an aftershave for (any recommendations?) i picked this razor up at a local resale store for $8 bc it was the cheapest and i thought it looked kinda cool, i was wondering if anyone had actual information on it (it has “gillette” imprinted on the back) and whether or not it is safe to try and shave with.
i just want to hear everyone’s stories or opinions on using different types of liquor as aftershave as an experiment or in a pinch
-Razor: Mühle R41 in rose gold
-Blade: Mühle razor blade (3rd use)
-Brush: Mühle nom pure badger shaving brush
-Aftershave: Alum + Rinse with cold water
Mug: a Mario mug to soak the brush
I used to view Speick as an "okay" cream. Great performer, but for me, it had a "meh" or a "boring, herbal" scent to it (don't get me wrong, it smells very unique). It also felt "weird" on my face. It has kind of a "cooling" effect, but not like a typical mentholated soap ( btw, I like mentholated soaps, I love Proraso green). And after reading the ingredients, there was no menthol. Although the scent was never a deal-breaker for me (a soap's scent is never a deal-breaker—it's the performance and whether it causes irritation that determine if I fully dislike a soap or cream), it wasn’t something I preferred. I usually go for "darker" scents, and for me, using a soap or cream with a scent I enjoy is what makes shaving so fun. Now, though, Speick is growing on me, and I'm starting to love it. I also disliked the scent of Arko when I first smelled it, but then I quickly grew to like it. Now, it's one of my favorite soaps, if not my favorite hahahah. It's amazing how personal tastes change !
How aggressive is this razor? I currently use a KCG razor and would like to replace it with a more aggressive razor. Would this type be a good choice?
