Check out the June 2018 AMA with Joshua Malina (with a surprise appearance from Hrishikesh Hirway).
THE WEST WING WEEKLY is an episode-by-episode discussion of one of television’s most beloved shows, The West Wing. The West Wing Weekly (tWWW) podcast is co-hosted by one of its stars, Joshua Malina, along with Hrishikesh Hirway of Song Exploder. tWWW is a proud member of the Radiotopia podcast network, from PRX.
JOSHUA MALINA: Upon graduation from Yale University with a B.A. degree in Theatre, Josh made his professional acting debut in the Broadway production of A Few Good Men, written by West Wing creator Aaron Sorkin. Josh went on to star as Jeremy Goodwin in Sorkin’s critically-acclaimed television series Sports Night. He worked with Sorkin once again on The West Wing, joining the cast in the fourth season. On the big screen, he has appeared in Bulworth, In the Line of Fire, and A View from the Top, among others. Josh starred for seven seasons as U.S. Attorney General David Rosen in ABC’s hit show Scandal. (@JoshMalina)
HRISHIKESH HIRWAY: Hrishi is a musician and composer, and a political news junkie. He makes music as half of the band Moors, and on his own as The One AM Radio. He scored the films Our Nixon and Save the Date. Hrishi is also the creator and host of the podcast Song Exploder, where musicians take apart their songs and tell the story of how they were made, featuring guests like U2, Björk, MGMT, The National, and many more. He studied art and design at Yale University, and lives in Los Angeles. (@HrishiHirway)

What brought our wonderful hosts to London?
Has anybody listened to the new podcast that Josh and Hrishi are doing? Apparently they’re reviewing political movies. It sounds interesting to me, but it seems as if it’s only available on a pay streaming service.
I've been listening in my car and getting all emotional - the timing is just dramatic with the upcoming election.
I just got to work and am sitting here in the parking lot as they come back from break and they are listing off the names of everyone who's there as a guest... I'm not going to spoiler but I just started crying with the last 2 😭😭😭 and now I have to go to work and be productive or something?!
Did y'all also get emotional for this episode? I just can't even.
I’ve been listening to the podcast during my rewatch and I’m at the start of season 3. But somehow I missed the introduction of the flentyl (sp?!). What does this mean? Which episode has the origin story? Someone end my confusion, please!
One of the long running conversations between Josh and Hrishikesh over the course of the series is about the value and quality of musical theater, Josh is pro and Hrishikesh doesn't get the appeal (outside of Hamilton, anyway).
One of my vague recollections from my original listen-through is them discussing the musical Rent. Does anyone know which podcast episode this is? I've been looking for it with no success.
I’ve been rewatching Studio 60 and marveling at Matthew Perry’s dramatic chops. A versatile talent gone far too soon, so check it out if you haven’t.
I’ve often wondered why Joshua Malina, one of the most well-known Mighty Sorkin Players, never made an appearance on Studio 60. I’ve read that he auditioned/lobbied for the Danny Tripp role that went to Bradley Whitford (honestly I can’t imagine anyone else in that role). I’ve also come to understand there’s some bad blood between Malina and Timothy Busfield re: a family divorce. That Busfield featured so prominently in Studio 60 was probably another reason against Malina’s appearance.
That’s a real shame as Malina is so adept working with Aaron Sorkin’s material. Pity that the Hartsfield’s Landing revisit during the 2020 election predated Malina’s appearance on TWW. Fingers crossed we get to see him in another Sorkin project soon.
Happy thanks giving everyone
Is it just me or did alot change after Zoey was found after kidnapping? Like Leo started being more of a hard ass. Josh was getting all kinds of shit from everyone. Toby was too. It felt like the core characters were written way differently.
Apologies if this has been discussed but does anyone know the name of the band/song when Toby walks into the bar? Tunefind didn't seem to have it. I thought it was Abandon Jalopy but can't confirm.
I have a firm memory of the President discussing the plural of the term Attorney General in the show, but I cannot remember where, or when, or find any clip of it online. Can anyone focus it for me please?
Hey guys, I think I remember hearing a story on this podcast about someone shaking yo yo ma’s hand and hearing it crack. I’m pretty sure it’s not the Noel episode where yo yo ma appears. Does anyone remember whose story this is/what episode it’s in? Thanks!
I just finished (another) full series rewatch and as always was just left wanting more. So, I decided to start the podcast.
Initial thoughts:
Josh Molina is really funny! Funnier than I expected, though now that I think about it, I’m actually not sure where that expectation came from…
Also, just finished he episode with Dulé Hill - what a delightful human!! I loved hearing about the pranks and other shenanigans that went in behind the scenes.
Who are y’all’s favorite guests? (i.e., who do I have to look forward to??)
I watch The West Wing perpetually. Literally. I also do a LOT of home improvement projects. I'd never heard of the podcast but as soon as I did, it became my constant companion through a million projects.
Not gonna lie, I got a little teary as it wrapped and now I can never do projects in my house anymore.
Festivities are over and I’m still awake so I popped in the show to fall asleep to. So our tv is massive and it’s been a while since I’ve paid close attention. Saw something in the Pilot in Leo’s office. Maybe it won’t matter because things change after the Pilot. I’m still curious though.
Anyway, this thing that is behind Leo. Is it tracking current locations of specific people? POTUS, FLOTUS, VP, VP wife, and I’m assuming: NSA, COS and HS SPKR (I am guessing the last three because I can’t find my glasses). What is it exactly? Anybody know?
If it’s been asked, I’m sorry for the clutter. Hope everyone’s having a good week!
I seem to remember that at some point they set their strategic goals and obsess about only scheduling events that follow them. But I just can’t find those episodes!
I’m curious if they covered why the characters pronounced Matt Santos’ name a couple different ways. Seemed bizarre and while they sometimes acknowledged it as a plot point it wasn’t always that way.
