Help brainstorming large West Sussex companies for work!

Hi everyone!

I’m job hunting and looking towards joining a bigger company or organisation anywhere from Worthing to Burgess Hill, Haywards Heath, Crawley, Horsham etc. Not too keen on working in central Brighton, but the outskirts are fine (I’m rurally location so would be commuting in my car- available parking essential!).

I love working in purchasing/merchandising and have experience in a multitude of industries ranging from mechanical engineering parts, commercial catering equipment, trade hairdressing supplies, and retail gifting items.

Preferable would be full time Monday-Friday hybrid work at a relatively secure company. It seems like a lot of industries are facing real challenges at the moment! I would be sceptical of the aviation sector, for example, who always walk a fine line. Other examples are The Body Shop HQ in Littlehampton which seem to be barely staving off administration, and I believe Nestlé in Crawley are relocating that office to London?

I’m keen to sink my teeth into a new challenging role at a comparatively “safe” company… that doesn’t require NHS hospital parking wars!

I’m all ears for both do’s and don’ts! Thank you

Moving to Horsham

Hi! My partner and I are looking to move to Horsham (hopefully buy a property sometime next year).

Are there any areas/towns within Horsham that is particularly loved and recommended? We’ve been leaning towards Littlehaven but wanted to get any opinions here.

Just as a bit of a background, we are originally from SE London and commute to Central London for work, we definitely want a quieter home environment and to stay away from any super busy areas.

Any comments are very much appreciated! Thank you!

Trying to find out more about this artist

A family member was given these placemats a few decades back and we're trying to find out more about the art and the artist. The signature is visible on two of them and we think it says something like Luke Littmoor / Luke LH Moon, and we think the art shows places around West Sussex. Does anyone reocgnise any of these and might be able to tell us more?

Hey peeps

We are a couple in their 20s

We’ve always been sociable people, love going out meeting people chatting that sorta thing. Since we moved to where we are now people aren’t all that sociable or friendly. So that’s where Reddit comes in.

Not really specifically looking for anything as are pretty chilled people. Though would love to meet a pub couple around our age

420 friendly, love fish keeping, enjoy playing video games.

I need help!!!

Hi everyone! My name is Selina (s2026962@ed.ac.uk), I’m a student from the University of Edinburgh. I’m now working on an international research project where l'll bring the voices from the UK, and make sure they're heard!

I aim to collect 400+ participants in a week so I’m calling for help from all the communities. Every opinions are valued! I had my sixth form in Horsham, that’s why I decided to reach out for help here. I had met so many lovely people here so I wish I could also bring voices from the West Sussex.

The study is about online platform regulations, such as ads and algorithms used by the platforms. I believe we all have experiences with disliked ads, misinformation and forced choices sometimes, that we have nothing to deal with it. Therefore, we wish to bring this issue to the table and we’ll report to the world - whether online platforms should be regulated and how. Together we can make CHANGES to create a better online environment in the UK!

If you’re interested and having some opinions, please fill in this 5-10 mins survey!

We're looking for:

  •   UK residences 🇬🇧
  •   Age above 18

Your participation is anonymous and voluntary, we will not analyse data in a way that can be traced back to you. You can also withdraw from the study at any time. Your data will be SCIENTIFICALLY used only!

If you found it interesting, please do share it with your friends and families! Your help will mean a lot to me! Thank you!🫶

Struggling to make friends

Hi guys. I moved to Horsham from the Netherlands 2 years ago now to be with my boyfriend and to start a new life. I have a work from home job which is 5 days a week, I don’t like going out and therefore do not get out much. I can be quite introverted, but that has become much better over the years. Because I don’t get out much I sometimes feel quite lonely due to not really having friends, at least not over here. Does anyone have any tips for places I could go to?

Moving to Crawley

Hi everyone. We are looking to buy a place in Crawley, as Croydon is just getting too much for us now :-/ As it is quite close to the motorways and of course Gatwick, has anyone ever found this to be an issue? Are there any areas of Crawley I should watch out for (good or bad)? Any advice or information on what it's like to live in Crawley would be really useful. For context, we are middle aged, and we also have a young child and young dog.

Southwater opinions

Hey all,

My partner and I are looking to move down to West Sussex from outer London/Surrey and have seen a few houses in Southwater which we could afford and tick most of our boxes.

We want 2-3 bedrooms with a nice side garden and garage storage for my partner's motorbikes, and within close proximity to country walks and nature, but also able to get into Horsham by public transport when we want to go out for the evening for dinner or something. The lower end of Southwater does seem to tick these boxes but I'm wondering about the area in general - is it very family oriented, any anti social behaviour issues, is it generally a nice place to live or what kind of problems there are with the area?

Looking for any and all feedback, good or bad, so we can be as informed as possible! We're obviously going to visit areas properly to make sure we like them, but just wanted to get the general consensus on the area from people that live/have lived or enjoy going there!

Edited to correct spelling :(

Advice for moving to Littlehampton please

Hi all,

I’m looking to move to Littlehampton and would like to hear some honest advice.

I’m particularly interested in the new builds in Hampton Park, phase 5. It’s still a new development area and will continue to be under construction for a few years. I’ve noticed that the prices are much cheaper than other new build homes in different areas. I understand that prices vary by location, but I’m curious why these new build houses in Wick, Littlehampton, are so inexpensive. Is it because there is a flood risk? The developer is constructing a wetland to mitigate the ‘risk’ of flooding, according to the seller, which makes me more paranoid about this area. Are there other reasons why it is much cheaper?

I really love the new builds here, but I want to be careful before investing all my money.

Thank you!

The BBC broadcast a comical look at Scientology's quaint West Sussex outpost this week. Mark Steel mocked Scientology's Saint Hill Manor, to the agreement of locals, referencing Ex-Scientology Apostate Alex.

Hosting a private event in a park

I'm not from the UK so I'm not as familiar with park rules. I've looked online but they don't quite address my question: is it required to get a permit or generally official permission to host a private event at a park? I'm talking basically just a birthday party with around 20-50 guests, likely going to play some music out of some personal speakers, have some drinks, and do some outdoor game activities.

I've been looking on district council websites for any park rules about this, but they don't seem to have any information except for hosting public events. Is it safe to say that I'm probably clear to host my party as long as I don't break the general rules (e.g. littering, grilling)?

Edit: I originally posted this because my council government was taking quite a while to reply, but they finally did. They actually told me not to host this in the park due to the lateness and the presence of alcohol, and if I wanted to do this, I indeed would need extra permission and some risk assessments and such. I had booked a private indoor location as a back-up anyway, so all good for me - but I'll leave this up in case anyone else benefits from this!

Which area to stay when visiting gardens of WS?

I am hoping to visit this summer and travel from Leeds, Yorkshire, and I hope to visit some gardens and enjoy some beach walks / trails. Any insider reccs are welcome!

I usually prefer house/apartment rental, but happy with hotels/ b&b if the former is not available. Not sure how available the first option would be as just starting research!

Any advice would be much appreciated!

Looking for fellow Linux users

As title suggests. I’m looking to find fellow Linux users in the local area. I’ve seen a few people wearing Linux T-shirts in various towns over the years so a know a few exist at least.
