We don't see politics along a left/right divide, we see politics along a top/bottom divide.
This is not a "Bernie sub." THIS is a Bernie sub.
WayOfTheBern is named for Bernie's focus on economic issues affecting the working class and his WAY of building coalitions across ideological divides, from his time as Burlington's mayor to the work that won him the nickname of "the amendment king" on the Hill. The Way finds clear expression in these words:
"It is harder, but not less important, for us to try and communicate with those who do not agree with us on every issue. And it is important to see where if possible, and I do believe it is possible, we can find common ground."
That said, Bernie has never been our god and we've never been a cult. When we agree with him, we say so. When we disagree with him, we say so.
Our politics: We don't see politics along a Left/Right divide; we see it along a Top/Bottom divide, and it is especially on issues of economic justice where people from across the political spectrum can meet and engage.
Many of us are newly awakened and angry at what we see. Hopefully this is a place to channel that anger, to vent those frustrations, to laugh at the absurdities and cry at the inhumanity, and in the process find ways to expose those in positions of authority who have long since forgotten who they serve, and replace them with those who do.
But a caveat is needed, it's the only way to keep chaos from reigning in this environment of Freedom to Express Opinions Others Don't Like: users don't get to be assholes about it (see Rules below).
Trolls: There's nothing more terrifying to the ruling elite than the prospect of working class people of all political stripes joining forces over their shared grievances. So periodic invasions and brigades by their paid shills and bots and corporate party True Believers™️ comes with the territory. Don't Feed the Trolls is still the best advice but the mods can't always resist the catnip appeal of pinning a troll post.
Bans: We rarely ban but we do have an arsenal of tools we don't hesitate to use to put a leash on bad faith actors who come here just to disrupt and distract.
Reported for misinformation!
We don't like rules. Shocking, I know.
But we need one, so here's the one rule:
“That which you hate, do not do to your neighbor."
Aka "The Golden Rule," "Play Nice," "DBAD," and "Be excellent to one another!" If you have trouble with this, no length of rules will have any greater effect.
(Graffiti and sharp objects are removed at the discretion of whichever mod or user is trying to help you understand our one rule.)
Guidelines, requests, and suggestions:
Agreement is not a goal; Civil engagement is.
Unity is not a goal; Tolerance of others is.
Conformity is not a goal; Enlightened debate is.

There goes the sun... It's the last one in the U.S. for a while, and should be a good one, especially for u/martini-meow 🐎🐂
Susan provided this dandy list of Eclipse songs including:
The Moon Is In The Wrong Place by Shannon & The Clams
Eclipse by Pink Floyd
But not my favorite You're So Vain, which mentions a "total eclipse of the sun" at 3:00 😺

Doctor at Israeli Detention Camp for Gazans Blows Whistle on War Crimes
A doctor at an Israeli field hospital inside a notorious detention center where hundreds of Palestinian prisoners are temporarily held is sounding the alarm about torture and horrific conditions at what some human rights defenders—including Israelis—are calling "Israel's Guantánamo Bay" and even a "concentration camp."
This is also being covered By Haaretz - an Israeli newspaper.
Physician at Israeli Field Hospital for Detained Gazans: 'We Are All Complicit in Breaking Law'
Haaretz also had an editorial about this back on March 10.
Editorial | No to the Israeli Guantanamo Bay
Gazans detained in Israel are not legally defined as prisoners of war because the Gaza Strip is not a state. Most were arrested under Israel's Detention of Unlawful Combatants Law, which permits the detention of anyone suspected of participating in hostilities against Israel and allows them to be held for 75 days before being brought before a judge.
Many are released back to Gaza after a time, and although it is made clear to everyone that they are not suspects, this does not change the fact that all are held in appalling conditions. Also very disturbing are the accounts of what has been happening to Palestinian security prisoners inside Israel's prisons, including beatings, severe overcrowding and food that is unfit for human consumption.
Israelis have called the Palestinians "human animals. The Zionists are no better.

Though Americans say they don’t want a president to have too much power, that view shifts if the candidate of their party wins the presidency. It’s a view held by members of both parties, though it’s especially common among Republicans.
Overall, only about 2 in 10 Americans say it would be “a good thing” for the next president to be able to change policy without waiting on Congress or the courts. But nearly 6 in 10 Republicans say it would be good for a future President Donald Trump to take unilateral action, while about 4 in 10 Democrats say the same if Biden is reelected.
The sentiment comes amid escalating polarization and is a sign of the public’s willingness to push the boundaries of the political framework that has kept the U.S. a stable democracy for more than two centuries. In the poll, only 9% of Americans say the nation’s system of checks and balances is working extremely or very well. It also follows promises by Trump to “act as a dictator” on day one of a new administration to secure the border and expand oil and gas drilling.

Turning point? After deadly strike on aid convoy, Democrats push Biden to put conditions on military help for Israel
In response to pressure from Democratic lawmakers, the Biden administration may opt to withhold some U.S. weapons from future arms deliveries.
In a phone call with Netanyahu on Thursday, Biden strongly implied that Washington was prepared to condition military assistance to Israel over how it addresses the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and cease-fire talks, according to two U.S. officials.
After Biden’s warning, Israel announced that it would open additional aid routes to allow for increased assistance to flow into Gaza, including the Ashdod port and the Erez crossing on Israel’s border with Gaza.
