Hi guys, I’m a bit confused about how undergrad admission results work. Do they come out for you as soon as the admissions team makes a decision, or is there a set date where everyone’s results will release all at once? If they come out in the first way I listed, has anyone received their results yet?
I feel like a disgusting worthless piece of shit. I consistently try to do the best in school and with relationships, but none of it matters. I consistently hate getting up in the morning having to go to classes, to feel everyone looking at me with contempt and disgust. And the worst part is a lot of it is my fault. I didn’t take advantage of the opportunities here, I let past mistakes consume me to no avail, I didn’t get help for my mental health issues and severe depression/anxiety issues and lost friends as a result, and I don’t know where I’m going anymore. The only reason I haven’t offed myself yet is because of my family. I just need someone to tell me I’m not alone and that I still deserve some love and dreams and human connection.
Are there any respectable gyms a walkable distance from campus?

Yeah, I unfortunately live with heavily religious parents so I am pretty sheltered and wasn't allowed to spread my wings a lot throughout high school.
Hello, I am applying to WPI for the class of 2029. I would like to know how the Robotics Engineering and Physics degree's look like at the school. Has anyone ever done a double major in both before? If so, how was it?
Hi all, longest of shots but my nephew will be attending WPI next year and is obsessed with this T-shirt. It's sold out in size L on the bookstore's website and I can't find it anywhere else online. Is there the slightest chance that any kind soul has one that they would be willing to sell, or any other suggestions for where to find one? L is preferred but I'd take an XL too. Thanks!
Are all students able to park in gateway when it snows? I usually park on the street (I live off campus) and want to plan ahead for when it snows
Hello I am a final-year international undergraduate student and I am considering programs like Information Technology, Business Analytics, or Data Science but am concerned my application may not be competitive due to lower test scores , limited work experience.
Could you please advise which program might have more accessible requirements for someone with my background? Additionally, are there resources or preparatory options to strengthen my application?
Thank you for your time and guidance. I look forward to your response.
Hello, one of my roommates is moving out next year because he is graduating. We are looking for a third roommate to fill his spot. The apartment is a 5-10 minute walk from campus, and 5 minutes from price chopper, and rent is $635/month, not including utilities (so in total roughly $680 a month). It is a 1 bathroom, 3 bedroom apartment. We are both male, but happy to make accomodations for anyone. Please message me if you are interested! We are hoping to fill the spot by before the end of the term.

I was looking into booking the oasis house to cook something but I was unsure if the supplies they have there for cooking. Has anyone cooked there before and know what cooking/baking supplies they have?

AAM Missile deterrence research
Research lead
· This is a concept of a sensor fused dead reckoning RWR system to be used in fighters that makes use of heat signatures and fuses it with the radar jamming capabilities of a fighter to simultaneously detect and avoid the missile via the localization of the launch time relative to the bearing to give the pilot possible options that can be verified via the onboard sensors. This system is intended for USAF and NATO aircrafts only.
Hypersonic aircraft research (Mach 11)
Research lead
· I am working on research on a experimental hypersonic aircraft with the objective of optimizing the thrust, engine and intake of the aircraft primarily. The primary research focus is the scramjet and the fuel injection intake system to optimize fuel and Mach speeds while maintaining aerodynamic stability. In addition to this I am carrying out research on control systems for hypersonic flight and exploring alternatives to traditional control surfaces. This research is intended to be used for US defense and space flights
Innoventures Aerospace Society
Founder
· This is a society that I formed for my school that aims to go international eventually. The primary focus of this society is on drones, aircrafts and rockets. This society has begun competing in regional rocket competitions as well as the AIAA student competitions. We work very closely with the national association of rocketry as well.
NASA STMD and NIAC projects
Research lead
As part of the STMD directorate I focused my research on projects ranging from hypersonic research to deep space propulsion to experimental robotic concepts. Some of them include:
· VOS – The Venus Observatory satellite
· DSE – Deep space exploration satellite
· MSL/EV - Mars surface landing / exploration vehicle
· Experimental robotic research (a broad term for research into specific technologies part of the STMD) - Some of the concepts include the Mars ROV concept, the Venus mechanical sensor system (concept), the star shade project that also acts as a light sail to conserve propellant, the Lunar soft robotics program and other concepts that may be relevant to future mission concepts and projects
· AREE automaton mechanical sensing project -
· NASA robotic assembly research program
First Lego league robotics
Team member (2017-2022) and mentor (2023)
· During my FLL season I mainly focused on the mechanical and electrical systems. Our school went to the global rounds during the into orbit season. During the city shaper season (2023) I helped mentor my school robotics team

World robotics Olympiad
Team lead
· During the 2021 WRO system we designed an automated system that would monitor and tend to plants in space based environments (specifically Mars) with an emphasis on control systems and actuator systems such as the bogies and other suspensions to allow the rover better moblity
NASA Space apps challenge
Team lead
· My team were the global finalists. Our system was the ZEUS (zero electricity utilization system) that created power on Venus via INSITU resources and our concept was selected for further review as well.
Oh and I also play the drums for fun (last 18 years) and I play football (WR) so I intend on talking to a coach as well
Feedback is greatly appreciated :)
Hi! I'm fairly new to Worcester, and I'm looking for groups I can play soccer with. Was wondering if there were any groups/pickup soccer (and/or futsal) games at WPI I could join. I can give more information about myself as needed as well. Thanks in advance!
PS: Not a WPI student, but I am a recent graduate from Finland myself.
Posting this in response to the mental health awareness we saw back in 2021 and 2022. While I have graduated since, I am curious what today's students find to be the greatest drawback of the school, or if improvement is needed anywhere.
I just spoke with Provost Sears at the Dean Coffee Hours today. We had a very nice conversation about his research in human-computer interaction, AI, and predictability. Gave me an idea for a project I could pursue in the future. If you're interested in any of that stuff, I highly recommend talking to him!
What was the Palestinian flag/ signage about? It seemed very organized, is it WPI administration lead or student lead? Was November 19 a particular day of protest or rememberance concerning Palestine?
Report hate speech if you see it on campus.
I applied to WPI early action and right now it's one of my top choices, but I'm trans and I want to know if I'll have trouble integrating with the community because of that. Will that be an issue if I attend?
Thanks!
I received an admit to the MSCS program at WPI with a $10K scholarship, as well as an offer from NEU Boston for the same program. I’m currently deciding between the two, but WPI is significantly more affordable, costing $38K compared to NEU's $57.1K (1610*30 credits - 10000).
From what I’ve heard, NEU has a very high acceptance rate, and the cost of living in Boston is steep. I prefer a quieter environment, which makes WPI more appealing, but I couldn't find information on the cohort size for the MSCS program at WPI. NEU doesn’t seem like the kind of quiet setting I’d prefer.
By the way, when calculating tuition, are we supposed to simply multiply the cost per credit by the total number of credits, or are there additional hidden costs I should consider?
I'm also an international student so how's the diversity?
Thanks in advance and have a good day.
As the title says. I'm a sophomore here about to take Soft Eng with Professor Wong in D term. He claims the class will be really hard and recommends underloading for it.
While I do believe having the responsibility of project manager or lead programmer may take up 40-80 hours per week, I just don't think it can be that much for anyone else.
My theory is that it is notoriously hard because most people coming in have never done any hackathons/web app development/Full stack, so it's hard to pick all of that up and also learn git/deployment and more along the way.
However, if you're a CS major aspiring to be a Software Engineer (which is 95% of the community), then you should probably know those things by the time you are a Sophomore/Junior/Senior.
Thoughts? Is there something else about the class that amounts to the difficulty that I'm not thinking about?
Hi Guys I just got admitted in WPI data science master program. Is this program worth to come? I also got admission from NEU for DAE program. Not sure which one I should pick. Can someone give me some advises especially for job hunting part. Thanks!
I’m having the 2 courses and an oncampus IQP in c Term. Was wondering if I can get some reviews abt those courses (workload, professor reviews, usefulness given im a fullstack swe wannabe,etc.).
Not to brag, only for context: I’ve taken SoftEng, DB1, OS, AdvCompNetworks and passed all w A’s (luckily).
We're looking for volunteers to play a custom first-person shooter! We're offering gift cards and IMGD playtesting credit.
The whole experiment should take only 25-30 minutes.

Alumnus here. Does anyone know if students at the DC project center will be presenting their work at the end of B term? I went to a presentation event in the Rayburn House Office Building a few years ago and it was really great to see what the students are doing. Would love to go again if they do it this year.
Hi - hoping for some feedback on chances w WPI: 3.6 GPA UW; tiny school offers no AP or Honors and doesn’t weight; curriculum is unique but considered challenging. Students are allowed to take 1 DE as seniors - student is taking DE Calculus thru local university.
Applying test optional - average EC’s: (2) sports all 4 years, Captain as senior; student council president (again, tiny school so not sure it holds much weight). Model UN 2-years, limited volunteering.
Any chance of admission? The UW GPA will be lower assuming WPI throws out art, music and gym classes but solid student in math/science (A-/B+). WPI is top choice and applied Early Action.
I want to use GraphPad to generate figures for a major upcoming presentation, but I'm not sure where to access it. Last year I used a free trial of it for my MQP but now that's used up. Any biology people who regularly use GraphPad, please let me know how you've been accessing it! Thanks
Can the HU Seminar be done at any time after breadth is completed? I was thinking to do it during a E term. Can it be done after IQP ?
I recently graduated from WPI and got a letter in the mail yesterday stating that they were notifying me of "an event that may affect the privacy of some of my information". It goes on to say that the event involved my name and social security number. It then goes on about monitoring services and Experian but there's no data on what this "event" was, what it targeted, and if there's anything WPI can do to prevent it in the future. I haven't seen anyone else on the subreddit mention it and googling didn't bring anything up. Is it legit?
