Just discovering WFMU

Double parked in Brooklyn, and I found this radio station while channel surfing. Awesome. What’s the history behind your channel? how long have yall been on the air? what’s free form mean?

Mt Tabor Tabernacle shows

Haven’t been up to the Tabernacle since before Covid. Used to be you could park in Mt Tabor or down at the strip mall at the foot of the hill (and walk up).

Now the promoters order everyone to park in Denville and use a shuttle bus to and from the show.

I’m sure that’s better for them, and the residents of Mr Tabor, but can we still park on local streets or the strip mall at the bottom of the hill and NOT get ticketed or towed?

1983 new wave demo played on wfmu no one has been able to identify "everybody's waiting for the countdown?"

Tapped by 2 different people (one of them gives a exact date of February 12th 1983) https://youtu.be/wQTNuuxaAmA

Possibly a local demo

Not in the crowd by gray-star Or change the world by the sages

How to listen on Apple Watch

Hello, love FMU. I'd like to listen through an Apple Watch (cell signal, leaving the phone at home.) Any suggestions on how to stream WFMU?

Ravioli Tourism Monthly

I love this little reformat of the show with Olivia & Adriene. I wish I could catch it live. It's very evocative with its mix of sound collage and listener stories.

Going to see Laura Cantrell play tonight in LA.

You might remember Radio Thrift Shop from several years back. She was the host. That was one of my WFMU gateway drugs.

BOOOOO!

We have NOT met our goal. Still fairly short of it. And if we don't meet it today, the Hellraiser will continue into November until we DO meet it. And we don't want that, right, people?! Let's do this like the Dodgers did last night!!

WFMU is at it's best around Halloween time.

Where else am I gonna hear obscure 80's punk rock songs about vampires at 3am other than Cat Bomb? WMFU's Halloween selections are a service to humanity, honestly.

Bryce

Is Bryce coming back? I listened to his last show back in June, but was distracted. It sounded like there was going to be a pause but if so, it hasn’t been un-paused yet. Fabio is back on Thursday, the record fair is happening in Manhattan & in the fall. Balance in the universe has almost been fully restored.

Record Fair returns to Manhattan (Nov 1-2)

Back at Metropolitan Pavilion (18th st. between 6th and 7th Avenues), but a little shorter. Friday Noon-3:00 pm is special admission $30, regular admission ($10) is 3:00-9-00 pm. Saturday 10:00 am-7:00 pm.

I'll be working the station's cheapo $1 LP table on Saturday, watching dealers flock over to buy stuff and flip it for $20 at their table, haha.

Alternate Streams

Been dipping my toe in the alternate streams (Give the Dummer/ Sheena’s Jungle) for a while, and there’re some great shows on them that don’t get much love; highly recommend exploration!

Ken should write a book. Did ken write a book?

Maybe he did and I don’t know about it? There are just so many extraordinary stories during his long tenure. I know it would probably not be a bestseller, but i’d read it. You would too i bet. He could title it “Herding Freaks” or something. What would you title it??

ELECTRIC CIRCUIT For 80s Japanese All Nite Punk Festival Special

I just broadcast a show on my show STRONG STYLE CHRIS CRASH focusing on the ELECTRIC CIRCUIT For 80s all night punk festival held in 1979 Yokohama Japan. It features Lizard, Friction, Sheena & The Rokkets and so much more of the earliest bands that helped spark this scene that we all love. Archive is available now and free to listen! https://wfmu.org/playlists/shows/144784

Wake in bake billboard

Hey. I just saw a billboard for the wake in bake show (I never watched this station btw as I am not in New Jersey) and saw that it had the a in a circle anarchist symbol. Is there a reason they use that? Also, sorry for not including a photo. I saw it while on nj transit and the glare from the sun was getting in the way.

WFMU Archive - Recommend your favorites from the Old Days

I got into WFMU around 2020 or so. With this new Archive Bunker app that makes the Archive SO MUCH MORE CONVENIENT to listen to, I would like to dive into the WFMU world of 2001-2020. There are so many DJs that I don't know anything about. I don't care about musical genres so much. Are there any DJs that are uniquely special from this time period? Especially those who are no longer DJing? Please don't say all of them! (which is probably the truth).

So far, I'm very thankful to listen to old episodes of Nickel and Dime Radio, Duane Train, and Sophisticated Boom Boom. (they were my gateway into FMU)

Archive Bunker App

iOS only but this new app is pretty slick.

I realize beggars can’t be choosers, but I would love a way to ‘cast’ the audio from the iOS apps.

Here here!

Jesus Going to Clean House, Lee Tracy & Isaac Manning, Is It What You Want, 2022

Darren's show last night, 9/15/2024
