Year 1 under Hugh was disappointing, year 2 will go in the record books as one of the most disappointing. But after we end 2024 3-9/4-8, where do we go from there?
Timing for hiring/firing in cfb is more important than ever and (unfortunately) to give your next guy adequate time to build a staff/roster for year 1, you need to make that decision before the season is over. Hugh won’t get fired this year, but what is the line he would have to cross next year in order to be fired? What does his year 3 need to look like to keep him? I think fans had reasonable expectations for year 2 (7-5/8-4) but he managed to burn the undeserved goodwill of the fan base almost as quickly as Harsin.
Good podcast expressing the frustration of Auburn fans.
If I had to pick, I’d lure Cignetti away from Indiana. Dude is an absolute winner. He’s done incredible at every stop and he has SEC ties
Down 10-7, Auburn 1st down at the AU 42. Almost the entire 4th quarter to go. We decide to take a deep shot and steal back momentum. I like that idea. But we shoot ourselves in the foot, decide a trick play where a true freshman receiver is throwing a long pass to another true freshman, take a big sack, and lose all momentum.
Terrible decision. I hate that that’s even a play in our playbook. But the bigger concern to me is, why have we spent time practicing this play? ESPECIALLY to the point where it’s what we’re comfortable going with in the biggest moments?
How is it that not one reporter is asking Freeze why he keeps putting Thorne in the field?? Does everyone know the reason and fans are just in the dark? Is Thorne someone’s illegitimate kid? Is he blackmailing someone? There is nothing to lose now by playing Walker white. This is absolutely ridiculous and the fans deserve answers.
Okay so every Gameday Pat McAfee picks a random kid to kick a 35yarder for the chance at some big money. My idea is that we do the same thing. "Will the student in section 27, row 9, seat 24 please come down to the field. You have a chance at a full scholarship if you can kick this field goal after the time out" At this point I would trust a rando out of the stands to kick it more than Towns Magoo.
Boys and girls, we have done it. We have survived the long night, and dawn is approaching. Auburn Football has provided very little joy for all of us this year, and more often than not it has ripped our hearts out. Disappointment, pain, and despair. All words that can be used to describe 2024 football.
But now it's basketball season. Now it's time to watch Bruce and the boys ball the fuck out. I cannot wait. I'm so excited to watch an Orange and Blue AU logo and not feel shame and disappointment. War Fucking Eagle baby!!
I’m just brainstorming and can’t fathom how this offensive coaching staff is this bad at coaching. I have not dove too hard into why but this could also be what happens when your coaches are better recruiters than coaches. I believe a lot of the coaches Hugh hired are known for their recruiting. I don’t believe Hugh has ever had a season as bad as this one and I refuse to believe he is purposely doing this. What sane person would ruin their reputation as a good coach. Just ranting and all over the place. Nothing this season makes sense!
Something where he still gets to recruit and is the head of the program but he does absolutely no coaching whatsoever
Every game this year except UGA has been very winnable, replace Thorne with someone like Cam Ward and we’re sitting at 2 losses MAX.
A good QB wins you those games. DESPITE the poor coaching
We better be in the playoff convo next year and we BETTER shell out the big bucks for whoever the top QB in the portal is
How many beers will you consume that evening?
Everything from his play calling, his coaching decisions and the way he acts makes me think he isn’t the guy. I know we don’t have the MOST talent but good coaches can sometimes win with less talent and so far Freeze has won 0 games against team with more talent and routinely loses to teams with less talent. The offense getting so much worse this year despite adding talent is also a giant red flag. Next year we don’t know who the QB will be, we lose Hunter and several of the O Lineman so I don’t have faith things will be that much better next year. I understand I’m screaming into the void as we won’t fire him this year but I’m tired and angry. If anyone can point to me any reasons besides recruiting to have faith in Freeze to be the guy let me know as I don’t see any right now. Personally I predict by this time next year he’ll be fired.
Dude has the young defense playing WAY above their heads.
At this point why do you even continue to play Payton? I know, he was just one of many issues today - most of which were on the coaching staff. Regardless, nothing is gained continuing to roll with him.
Our season is over, we aren’t burning any redshirts at this point with only three games left (for those who haven’t played yet). Why not let walker get a shot? Fine with Hank too but I don’t see what you have to lose. 4-8 and maybe even 3-9 are our two outcomes the remainder of the season.
Honestly that applies to all the freshmen/sophomores. I don’t care to watch Asante in man coverage getting burned for a touchdown or keionte giving me a heart attack every time he fields a punt. If that’s gonna happen I’d rather it be a young player.
I don’t think anyone is putting enough emphasis on this. You cannot win games without a kicker.
The longest field goal Auburn has kicked this year is 32 yards. If a football team has to get the ball inside the 20 to get points, they are not going to win games. If the offense goes on a good drive and faces 3rd down at the 30, they have to be way too aggressive because they know a 47 yard field goal is out of the question. Even though the misses have only officially lost a couple of games, not having a kicker completely cripples playcalling in opposing territory.
Hugh Freeze has his obvious downfalls and I think a better QB fixes a lot of the issues. I also think with an average SEC kicker, this year is a lot more tolerable.
The only way Hugh Freeze is gone is if John Cohen is also gone. Cohen sold our soul to hire his old crooked cheating buddy, and there is no reason anyone should expect him to change now.
Payton Thorne can’t read at a 2nd grade level and can’t throw to a wide open receiver. As much as I hate the cop out of, “the play worked” from Freeze, the Vandy defense basically lined up and dared Thorne to hit receivers. Spoiler alert: he can’t. Our only TD today was an awful pass. Thorne might be able to “see the play in the film room” but he can’t hit the WR when it matters.
Career long 32, misses from 40 then you put him out there with the game over if he missesfrom 52. Then you call a timeout with 2:01 left literally just wait til the 2 minute warning does his stupid ass not know it’s in college now? It was fourth down the 2 minute is going to stop the clock and they have to punt, you gave up a timeout for 1 second? This guy is fucking garbage, doesn’t matter the recruits he gets bc he can’t win any games I can’t put up with his coaching. he is a detriment to our players who fight so hard to win. This guy is piss poor get his ass out right now.
Of all the shitty game management moves we have made this year this is the most embarrassing.
That is all.
Why the hell is the best player on the field only getting the ball 12 times???? Hugh needs to let someone else call plays
