I live in Dallas and have done a bit of block-walking in the past. This year, I became a Volunteer Deputy Registrar (VDR) to help friends and family get registered and make sure they voted. But I’m angry and want to do more. I’d really love to focus on local efforts here, but I’m not sure where to start. I haven’t seen much from the Dallas County Dems (or maybe I just don’t know where to look!). Are there any groups or volunteer opportunities anyone can recommend? Thanks in advance!

There is no sugarcoating it. Last night was exceptionally hard, and your - and our - emotions are very, very raw.
Donald Trump has won the presidency. Unfortunately, we’ve lost the Senate, with a number of our incumbents losing to their Republican challengers (though some great candidates are, as of now, still in the fight).
But instead of focusing on the bad, let’s highlight the good: The House is still within reach, as we’re seeing our candidates across the country perform well in districts from California to New York (working to win the House is essential to keep a check on the insidious, harmful plans of Trump and the GOP). Ballot curing will be very important for these races. North Carolina elected a whole suite of downballot Dems - from Josh Stein as governor to breaking the GOP’s supermajority in the state’s House We’ve likely gotten Ruben Gallego elected as Arizona’s next Senator We elected Tulsa, Oklahoma’s first black mayor - Monroe Nichol Helped Delaware’s Sarah McBride become the House’s first trans woman Won crucial judicial races in Kentucky and Michigan Helped voters reject abortion limits in Arizona, Nevada and Missouri And so much damn more. We want to be real though: there isn’t any denying that Dems largely underperformed, and that hurts. We get it. It sucks, and it begs the question: where do we go from here?
VoteDem’s mission has always been to fight, and to win. We’re not planning to change that.
In the immediate future, we need you to get involved with ballot curing. Helping rejected ballots get accepted can change races, and given, like 2022, we’re expecting races across states such as California and Nevada to be very close. They could be the difference between winning and losing the House.
A little further afield, Georgia and Louisiana hold run-off elections for races in December. While we’re not sure of the details of those just yet, we know you’ll undoubtedly be ready to kick back into volunteering to help our candidates claw back a little ground.
And, as always, special elections will be back in force before we know it. Trump is highly likely to poach some House members and Senators to join his administration, and we’ll be ready to punish them by electing some Dems to take their seats. On that note, we’re already looking forward to 2026’s Midterms….
Ultimately, while we know many of you will be feeling it over the next few days and weeks, we’ll be aiming to keep VoteDem the hub of activism we - and all of you wonderful volunteers - have built it to be.
Last night will take a while to comprehend, and we get it if you need to decompress, take a break, or vent. What we want to avoid is our subreddit turning into an echo chamber of worry. This won’t be the place for the inevitable post mortem or blame game - it will continue to be a place of action, just like it was before yesterday.
Republicans are motivated by many things, especially hate and power. It’s hard, but we can’t let them get to us - and can’t let their hate shake us. Let it motivate you. They’ve now got the power - so we’ve got GOP ass to kick.
Let’s get back to it.

Illinois resident working in CA. Got my ballot mailed to me, it just came in today 11/5. It’s an Illinois ballot, can I drop it at a drop box in CA, or no?
Separately, could I vote in CA if I brought a piece of mail for my CA apartment?
I was only planning to vote in the presidential election but there's also other smaller elections and I'm not really that educated to vote on them. If I leave them blank, will my vote still count??? Extra: I'm in Cali if that helps.
Edit: thank you guys for the help 💙💙💙 i really appreciate it🙏
I registered a week ago and I’m not sure if I get confirmation or not. I heard the last day to vote was on November 4.
Hello!
I recently moved about 2 hours away from my hometown and am registered to vote in my new area. I plan to vote on Tuesday, but I am now realizing my Driver’s License has my address on it of my old address prior to my move.
Will I still be eligible to vote at my current polling place near my new address as is, or is there anything I can do to prove my residency to the polling place to let me to vote?
I'll say who I voted for. Democrat. I'm tired of my family forcing me to vote Republican. I'm prochoice and prolife. Just because your a die hard Donald Trump doesn't mean you can smear it in my face. My dad is ok. He hasn't done that. My mom would guilt trip me and gas light me.

I just filled out my ballot, placed it in the affidavit envelope, signed and sealed. I intend on dropping the ballot off at my local recorder’s office.
My question is, when I got to drop off my ballot at the ballot box, do I place it in the return envelope? Or just leave it in the affidavit envelope with my signature on the front?
Maybe it doesn’t matter? I’m probably over thinking but want to make sure I do it right
Can I wear an Obama shirt when I go vote?
Computer programmer Jacky Rosen is part of the dream team with fellow Nevada senator Catherine Cortez Masto. Jacky is running for re-election, after defeating a Republican incumbent in 2018. Her path to entering the fray of politics hasn’t been a straight one, as the daughter of two blue collar workers, being the first in her family to go to college, and working as a waitress to get by.
Rosen is a problem solver and independent thinker with experience building up communities and promoting small businesses, education, and the arts. She has passed bipartisan bills to get more young girls involved in STEM fields and has also been described as one of if not the most effective U.S. senators.
Before entering politics, Jacky contributed to a nonprofit solar energy project in Nevada. In the House of Representatives (representing NV-03), Jacky was on the Committee on Armed Services, Committee on Science, Space, and Technology, and the Subcommittee on Energy. Her father was in the military and she has been fighting her heart out for the rights of our veterans that they so rightly deserve, such as protecting veterans from the short- and long-term effects of toxic burn pit exposure and the aiding of mental health in first responders.
Jacky fights righteous fights and as importantly she wins. She has won every election she’s ever ran for and she needs our continued support to win this 2024 battleground toss-up. Story time… My brother is a student at Virginia Tech and a North Carolina resident registered to vote in NC. He (unfortunately) didn’t submit a mail-in ballot request until yesterday (the deadline was today). Now, when he checks online, it shows the ballot hasn’t shipped, and once it does, it’ll take 7-10 days to arrive. He has no way to get back to NC because he doesn’t have a car. I have Election Day off and could have picked him up, but unfortunately, VT isn’t giving students the day off, and he has a full schedule of classes he can’t miss. It’s a tough situation—this was supposed to be his first time voting, and now he may not even get the chance.
Another note: I requested an NC mail-in ballot over a month ago, but it never arrived. When I called, they suggested I just vote in person on Election Day. I also mentioned my brother’s situation to the election board, and the woman literally said, “There’s nothing we can do; it probably won’t arrive in time. Hopefully, the election isn’t close so it won’t matter.” That made my blood boil. I know he should’ve requested it earlier, but I’m not even sure it would’ve come on time if he had. And the scary thing is, I’m sure there are so many others in the same situation who might just end up not voting. Why make the deadline a week before the election if ballots can’t be sent out in time? So sad.
Thinking of taking the day off to help get every last person to the polls, anyone know if there’s gonna be a last push next Tuesday?
The sample ballot I'm looking at shows that I can vote for "representative in congress 16th congressional district", "representative in congress 17th congressional district", a state senator for the 37th, 46th, and 53rd legislative district (I thought states only had 2 senators per?), "representative in the general assembly 73rd, 91st, 92nd, 93rd, 94th, and 105th districts, etc.
Am I allowed to vote for all of these? Common sense tells me that someone living in one district shouldn't be dictating who represents the people living in another district. Yet here it is, to be voted for, on my ballot. I looked at the FAQ for the county I'm in and it didn't explain any of this.
I tried to vote in the county I was currently registered in despite living in a different county because when I checked my status, it said this:
A voter whose status is on suspense is eligible to vote in an election provided that the voter completes a Statement of Residence either when voting by mail or at the polls prior to voting (within the same county as the voter's current registration)
To me, this reads as though I can vote in the county I used to live in as it’s my current registration but I’d have to complete a statement of residence prior to voting. The lady at the place I went to immediately got defensive and gave me an attitude when I kept trying to explain and understand what it was that this was saying. Frustrating moment for me overall
Moved from Florida to Ohio, registered to vote. Went to get my drivers license, had everything I needed (I thought), missing two pieces of mail at my new address.
The list of acceptable mail is so specific. I’m staying with my sister so no utility bills or rent receipts. Nothing much else applies to me, I don’t hunt or fish for crying out loud.
I’m 70 years old and I’ve voted in every election since I was 18, never missed one. The most important one ever, I have to miss.
I’ve been hearing both house and senate might flip, and I’d like them both in democratic hands. I know some anxious rich people who are suddenly realizing there are down ballot races. Who do I tell them to send it to? I know you get more bang for your buck in smaller races. What congressional races give Dems the best chance to lock up both houses?
My mom is apparently not voting because she doesn’t like either candidate…I’m not sure she realizes what is at stake and how important this election is. I want to convince her to vote, but I’m also frustrated I have to teach her in the first place. How do I go about trying to convince her to vote blue?
EDIT: Literally just found out my account got hacked last month? So if you see anything weird on my profile that literally wasn’t me. 🙁
EDIT 2: Thanks so much again to everyone for your help ♥️ so many useful comments. Convincing her was easier than I thought! I talked about Project 2025 with her and mentioned some of the awful things that comedian said at the Trump rally on Sunday (I’m Afro-Latina). All of that put the fire in her system to vote Blue. Appreciate you all!
Not sure where else to ask this so here we go!
I originally registered to vote in Dallas county but moved to Tarrant county a few years ago. My registration was listed as suspended and I tried updating my address to my current address, but when I checked on October 7, it still said suspended. Is it possible for me to still vote in Tarrant County or would I need to go to Dallas County. I’ve read about limited ballots but it seems like I need to be registered to vote still in Dallas county.
As well as voting in downballot races.
