Did I miss an announcement? Ambersail 2 has been DNS on the VO65 circuit. Are they out the rest of the race? Why?
I'm headed to Newport to catch the fleet in action! I'll definitely watch the in-port from Ft. Adams, but am wondering from where folks are watching the leg start.
Last time I watched from Castle Hill Lighthouse then around Brenton Point out to sea. It was magical watching the harbor empty out, but then I was left trying to get off island through town.
Are there any other good spots from which to watch on Sunday? I was thinking somewhere on Jamestown might be good
What's next for Guyot? Once they arrive in Newport, will they have time to repair and rejoin Leg 5? Without racing leg 5, I feel it's going to be extremely hard for them to remain competitive at all. Tough situation for that team.
Team Holcim-PRB has dismasted - all crew safe
Skipper Kevin Escoffier has reported his team is safe after dismasting during leg 4 of The Ocean Race.
Team Holcim-PRB was racing approximately 20 miles off the coast of Brazil in moderate winds and sea state.
The dismasting occurred just after 0500 UTC (0200 local time) on 27 April, on the fourth day of leg 4.
Team Holcim-PRB, the overall race leader, was in the lead at the time, 9 miles ahead of 11th Hour Racing Team.
Mailizia finished first but they both got 9 points out of a possible 10! Say what?
Thanks!
What an incredible finish. Congratulations Malizia! And to all the teams for making it through the longest leg of the race.
I'm struggling to find informations on where to follow the Cabo Verde in-port race that is supposed to take place today, in fact I'm even questioning if it still exists ? The only mention of it that I found is in this article : https://www.theoceanrace.com/en/news/13143_A-guide-to-the-In-Port-Race-Series
It looks like they completed the leg, so why does the tracker say retired? Is this the penalty for crossing the no-sail zone in Gibraltar?
The most recent news report of the Ocean Race says the VO65's will only do a sprint Cup and return in spring. Only the IMOCA's will continuous for the full race. Does anybody know what the reason is that the VO65's are not going around the world? I can't seem to find it on the Ocean Race's website.
Personally I like the boat type of the VO65's more and I am disappointed that they won't do the full race.
I thought it was suppose to be on discovery plus?

Whoever is editing these and putting them out has absolutely no idea what they are doing
I watched the 2008-9 ocean race film on YouTube since it was a suggested video, and it got me super pumped for the ocean race. I start following the ocean race this year, and it just seems mundane. Everything is done from inside, autopilot, etc.
Anyone else feel the same?
Do you think Ambersail 2 will be first through the strait of Gibraltar?
What's your way to follow the race? What are good sources, do you have some tips?
I think the tracker is the most important and otherwise I look a lot on social media from the official Ocean race account.
Pretty cool is also the grafana dashboard of Team Malizia: https://exocet.cloud/grafana/d/bsbc_7MGx/malizia-public-dashboard-the-ocean-race?orgId=15
Any other ways to keep up with the crews sailing the long legs?
With the upcoming "The Ocean Race" i was wondering if this is still the place to discuss the Race formerly known as The Volvo Ocean Race.
Also i´d like to hear some opinions about the short VO65 Ocean sprint , compared to the Imocas.
Go Go Martine
The European Ocean Race will start this Friday (28th of may). And I was wondering if r/VolvoOceanRace is still the right place to discuss it’s happenings?
