A home for those who add artistic flair to repair work.
A lot of time, care, and resources go into the creation of everyday items, especially the clothes we wear. Mending honors and celebrates all of that by extending the usable life of items, rather than just throwing them away and replacing them. Visible mending combines the repair process with creative expression. This is a place to share your visible mending projects, or learn and gather ideas for visible mending.
Upcycling, zero waste fashion, secondhand projects, etc., do not automatically belong here, they must prominently feature visible mending.
Mends do not need to be expressly "Visible", but consider if it would be more appropriate in the dedicated subreddit for r/InvisibleMending.

My fave pjs have been growing a hole, what's the best way to fix this without making it worse? ( i posted it on r/invisiblemending too just to get more input cause I love these so much)
Thought you guys might be tickled by the chaotic mess that this WIP knee patch is. I started by tracing the hole (brown) on my patching denim, then tried to draw a cat face in purple, but it ended up looking like a weird wombat or something. So I did a sitting-up doodle cat in blue that I liked.
So now I'm stitching the blue, trying not to get distracted by the purple and brown. I cut the patch a little too small, though so I hope it holds. I may end up layering something at the top and bottom just to make it more secure
The collar of my jean jacket is leather and has a tear about 2.5 inches long. I’m trying to figure out the best way to repair this.
I’ve seen leather repair kits that include liquid repair compounds but I’m unsure how that will look once applied. As you can see, the leather is sewed on top of the jean collar.
I have also thought about using some waxed thread to sew it up.
If anyone has any experience with this sort of project and can offer any tips, I would greatly appreciate
The faux leather straps (pictured to the right) were peeling badly, so I replaced them with real leather. Hand stitched. I didn’t have a dye exactly the same color but that’s okay. It will hopefully let this beloved beach tote stay with us for another decade :)
I just got these jeans this year, and the corners of the back pockets have begun to rip. Is there any tips for preserving these jeans and still having functional pockets? I am new to mending so all tips/advice is welcome.
Mobile game Neko Atsume 2 has certain items that attract cats to your yard, after being used by the visiting cats for a time they become worn. At that point the player can opt to fix or discard them. The flower cushion, baseball, cowboy hat, and red ball show the visible signs of the mends. This is a new feature of this version of this Japanese game, a lovely addition imo.
I darned this shoes long ago, but maybe it would be better to sew or paste a fabric panel on top of all the front? What ideas do you have? Have you repaired this kind of shoes?
Y'all, this sheet has been a work in progress for over a year. My cat has been getting sick on the bed (he's okay, we went to the vet, he had a surgery, he's recovering!👍) and I need more than one set of sheets. So I zoomed through the second big tear with white thread and some machine darning. I figure I can always go back and embroider over it. But today is the momentous day when it goes back on the bed!🙂
