I commute from Moorpark to Oxnard on the 118 every day. Yesterday was my first chance to drive it since the fire started, and I'm very happy to report that - EVERYTHING IS STILL THERE!
When I read where the fire started, I was sure the 118 would be a horror show, but all the farms appear to be untouched, and the businesses like Somis Nut House, Underwood Farms, etc. are all still standing. Even the goats at Underwood seemed to be doing well.
I guess the wind was so strong that it blew the embers right over the road and onto the Camarillo Heights south of it. Still sucks for the people living on the hills, but things could have been much worse.
No shade at all. Love what they do and how they risk it all. But the fires been out for like 4 days. I know there’s probably still spots that need to be checked but that Ventura fairgrounds lot is still completely full of trucks from around the state. Seems like a complete waste of money and lots and lots of overtime pay. Thoughts?
I looked at Google Maps to see if a friend's house was close to the Mountain Fire perimeter. I saw a lot of black areas in the Camarillo Heights area, and was surprised Google Maps updated this area so soon.
Would someone in that area look at Google Maps and see if this accurately shows the burned areas of the fire? Or are those areas burned from another time?
I don’t get off work until 5 and by then it’s already dark outside. I would love to find a dog park that is still open after dark specifically in Ventura, Oxnard, Camarillo or TO. Any help would be much appreciated😊
my mom’s birthday is in a few days, i’d like to give her a voucher for spa/massage services to help ease her stress. Looking for nice clean atmosphere, friendliness and <$200 . Preferably Ventura/TO (her home/work) but open to elsewhere. Thank you!
Also where can I poop?
I heard it was opening Fall 2024
Hello everyone, I just spotted on fire.ca.gov that there's a new fire in the East of Ventura County, the 'Corbin Fire', I'm having trouble finding specific details, can anyone elaborate?
Anyone know of any Korean hair salons in the county? I’m looking to get a perm and can’t seem to find any in the area. Assuming I will have to go to LA but thought I’d ask just in case! Thanks!
Hi everyone!
I want to buy a house or maybe a condo. We rent in Bellflowers right now, but I should get a settlement from auto insurance soon, so I thought I would use it as a downpayment for a house.
I expect to get 40 grand or so.
Schools are not important. I am a first-generation immigrant so I am ok to live in a heavily Latino area.
I work in construction, so I travel throughout the county, and my wife is disabled.
I can make a 40-50k downpayment and maybe pay 2k in payments.
My credit score is 770 and my family's annual income is 57k.
What would you suggest?
My father in law was recently diagnosed with Alzheimer's and I wanted to try to help him and my mother in law out by finding any local resources for them to access. My Dad who recently passed bad Parkinson's and my Mom took him to a "ping pong for Parkinson's" support group and it was nice because they met with other Parkinson's patients and went over common challenges and exchanged tips, doctors etc. . I'm looking for something similar for my FIL for his Alzheimer's. Does anyone have any recommendations?
Foes anyone know if there are any places in VC that offer adult wrestling classes?
Thanks.
thanks
Hello, so first of all, condolences to all those who are having a hard time with the fire, I hope it gets contained soon.
I had a weekend getaway planned in Ventura (one of the hotels near the pier) tomorrow to Sunday and I was wondering if it's still safe/a good idea to go on this trip with the fire going on. How is the air quality? Will we pretty much be bound to the hotel? Will we smell a lot of the fire/smoke walking around downtown Ventura/sitting in restaurants? Of course, it might be different tomorrow, but wanted to check if we'd be better off postponing the trip.
Hi everyone - I'm a journalist who lives in New York and covers insurance related issues. The Mountain Fire has caught my eye. First of all - I'm really sorry if you are in that fire's path or have lost anything already. That is truly heartbreaking.
If you happen to see this and are not reeling from that sort of life-altering disruption, I'm just curious if you could give me an idea of whether the same is true in Ventura County as has been seen across the state - higher premiums, dropped coverage, etc?
If you're able to share any information about who is writing policies in the area (even if you just know your broker's name), I'd be really interested and really grateful for the information.
Hey guys I’m a 31 year old man that just bought his first Harley. It’s a sportster. I don’t know anyone that likes to go riding, would love to meet any type of riders to go out for a cruise from time to time. I love riding and can’t seem to get enough.
Hi everyone,
Moorpark, CA was my childhood town and I am looking into moving back in the upcoming months. Just want to make sure it is an optimal place for me and my partner to be as a gay couple. I do understand that it's a bit more rural than the rest of the surrounding area.
Was wondering if someone on here can share their experiences?
if anyone has used it pls lmk
Does anyone know if the Santa Paula DMV testers like to fail people? Or are they pretty nice? As of a few years ago I heard they were easy but I'm not so sure now.
Feeling a little helpless and hopeless watching my hometown burn in flames.
Tried doing a quick google search for places in need of volunteers to help families or anything really but didn’t find much luck.
Anyone have thoughts on where to look or go to? Just want to lend a hand where I can.
(Threw a picture in to get people’s attention lol)
