Any home insurance recommendations?

My aunt just got this letter in the mail, Farmers is dropping her in July. She’s been in that house since 1995 and with Farmers the whole time. Not a single claim in 29 years and they’re not even giving her a reason for the drop 🤦‍♂️. She’s in a nice neighborhood with clean, well kept houses. There have been no fires or any major events near her in 10+ years. Any recommendations on who to try now?

Housing

I’m looking for cheap housing near Callu, up to about 20 minutes away but everything is so expensive. Does anyone have any recommendations on cheap apartment complexes for studio-2 bedroom apartments? I’m 20 years old and wouldn’t mind if people reach out if they have open rooms or open house! Thank You!

Volunteer Restoration Opportunity at Fillmore Fish Hatchery

Hello everyone!

I am a Corpsmember with the Watersheds Stewards Program, and I am partnering with Channel Islands Restoration and Friends of the Santa Clara River to host a volunteer event aiming to improve habitat quality for the federally threatened Southern Steelhead Trout. The event is on April 28th, 2024, from 8:30am-12:30pm on the Sespe Cienega Nature Trail at the Fillmore Fish Hatchery, in Fillmore, CA.

I am seeking volunteers for the event as this will be a great way to learn about the environment, give back to the community, and celebrate Earth Day! The event will include an educational component regarding ethnobotany and native species in local watersheds. There will also be snacks and a raffle for an REI gift card.

More information is available using the QR code on the flyer or this link https://forms.gle/oVaz49orfRLb7yC59 and I am happy to answer any questions. Thanks redditors!

wedding venues

hi everyone, I am doing research on wedding venues in the ventura county area. I am trying to find places that are BYO catering. the cost of all of these most popular suggest places (hartley botanica, eden gardens, walnut grove etc.) all require their catering which is eating up nearly 60-70% of budget. I am willing to spend money but it just seems like required catering is swallowing. Are there any outdoor venues that are BYO? (for more preference if I'm being picky: I don't love the barn/farmhouse look, i prefer gardens. is that realistic?)

Ventura County

I was wondering if anyone knows what the official policy on cannabis is for county employees?

I haven’t been able to find the answer and I don’t really want to ask. I don’t want anyone to look at me different or consider me unprofessional. I am not currently partaking, but cbd oil was recommended by my therapist and I’d like to try it. I absolutely do not want to go against policy or risk my job in any way. Anyone know where to look to find this answer? I know California just changed the law on testing, but I know that government workers are held to different standard.

Thanks in advance for any input.

Hello, Question About Biking to Point Mugu Beach

Is it possible to bike from Camarillo to Point Mugu beach? I know there is that road you have to cross to get to the beach. I'm just curious though as I haven't been to the beach in years and do not have a car.

Spectrum Internet Cannot Legally Sell Its 300 Mbps Service as "Broadband"

As of March 14, 2024, the Federal Communications Commission’s benchmark for high-speed fixed broadband as download speeds of 100 megabits per second and upload speeds of 20 megabits per second.

While Spectrum no longer displays download speeds on their website, their 300 Mbps plan is limited to 10 Mbps upload speed, below the new minimum limit.

Now that it has been a month with the new definitions, it would be a good time to contact them about this. Ask when they plan to meet the new FCC definition.

Hopefully we will not have to use this:

Gifts for someone missing home.

Sorry if this doesn’t belong here. My boyfriend moved from Ventura to Florida for PA school. Then we met and he’s been planning to move in for a while. He’s supposed to be moving in next month after he takes his certification exam. He told me he’s missing home a lot. Florida isn’t his favorite place and he’s staying for me. I know it’s not the same, but I was wondering if there was anything I could get him/do for him that would be a nice reminder of home. I’ve only been to visit once so I’m not sure what there is. I know most of the time these sort of things are personal (Like when I moved away from home, I really missed how it smelled when it rained.) But any suggestions would help.

I thought of finding Maybe some wine or beer from Ventura county... or maybe drawing a picture of those mermaid statues for him.

Thanks! ♡

College Class - Loosely Photography Themed

Hey all,

I'm leading a photography class this summer at a Ventura County College. It's a lab class where I can take the students literally anywhere within driving distance on class field trips. The sessions are 6 hours in length and loosely framed around creating photographs of interesting places, subjects, or ideas. I'm looking for interesting places, tours, museums, or locations to take my students and give them cultural or inspirational experiences, while having the opportunity to learn about Southern California. I need a few more ideas for locations. Can I ask for some help or ideas from you brilliant Redditors?

Here are some ideas to help frame my request:

  • Museum Row: LACMA: Ed Ruscha: Now/Then
  • Venice: Boardwalk / Skate Park / Abbot Kinney / Tile House
  • Ojai: Bart’s Books / Wheeler Springs Tunnels / Piedra Blanca
  • Camarillo: Associates Insectary / Western Foundation of Vertebrate Zoology
  • Getty Center: Nineteenth-Century Photography Now
  • DTLA: Districts / Last Bookstore / Grand Central Market / LACP 10TH Annual Members Exhibition

I'd like to take them on a tour of JPL, but I don't know if I can manage that.
