Hello! I’ve got a bunch of maternity clothes, small baby clothes, and diapers that no longer fit my little one that I would like to donate. Does anyone have a favorite place for donating said items? I’ve heard about the thrift store on the avenue but I’m not sure if they take all of this stuff. Thanks!
Hi there!
I’m a 22 year old young male professional searching for a new room to rent. I work a full-time hybrid job, M-F, and am also a full-time grad student. I stay pretty busy so never a bother.
Aside from work and school I like to have a night out and let loose. I would also like to have a relationships with my roommates.
Please let me know if you have a room available and we will go from there. Thanks!
Selling 2 tickets to Chicano Batman today 11/3 for the Ventura theater. I would have liked to go but the person I was planning on going with backed out so I’m stuck with 2 tickets. Selling for $40 each, hmu
A doctor from Uganda is arriving in Ventura tomorrow around 1pm to present at a conference. His host family won’t be home until late and we can’t spend the day with him. He won’t be driving. He has very little spending money.
Any ideas on things he could do? We’re looking into some church stuff in case he’s religious or open to it. What else could he do?
Looking for public ice skating in the area.. is the Icoplex in Simi the closest?
Power’s out on the Avenue…looks like someone forgot how to drive in a little drizzle and knocked it out lol
I had so many interviews that say they are hiring and either I don't get hired, they go with someone else, or they aren't hiring. I just had a interview with Jack in the Box yesterday and they said they weren't hiring but still wanted timo interview me which is stupid ngl. So yeah I need a job in Ventura that doesn't involve driving. If anyone has any options I'm willing to hear.
Does anyone know if there’s still Halloween themed events this weekend at bars in Ventura? My husband (31M) and I (32F) are still new to the area. We don’t want to dress up in Terrifier clown face with nowhere to go lol
Come out tonight and see The Slags and others open for Die Healing at The Sewer
Can anyone recommend someone who makes visually fun, creative birthday cakes? My almost 13 year old daughter is a young artist obsessed with Rengoku (anime), but it’s a tough order to try to fill.
This was not provided by me, only just read on Nextdoor from someone in attendance in court yesterday and very close to the case.
“Yesterday I attended the trial hearing for Open Main Street vs City of Ventura. I will remain neutral and only present a synopsis of the hearing. The judge had already reviewed each counsels’ briefs prior to the hearing, so was familiar with the case. During the hearing, each counsel presented their key arguments.
The plaintiff’s attorney argued that the city’s use of the Slow Streets Code was unlawful as that statute relies on the argument that the street is no longer “necessary”. He argued that the street is indeed necessary, as evidenced by the city’s carve outs to allow access for delivery vehicles, emergency vehicles, maintenance vehicles, and members of the public on a case by case basis. Since some members are permitted access, the street is thus necessary. And California state law mandates that if a street is open to certain people, it must be open to all - essentially an anti-discrimination policy that was enacted after cities were excluding certain “undesirable groups” from specific areas back in the day.
The city’s attorney argued that the street was no longer “necessary” as evidenced by the fact that it has been closed for the last 4 years.
The judge questioned both sides, and then offered his tentative opinion/ruling. He essentially said that the city violated both the Pedestrian Mall Act process and the Slow Streets Vehicle Code. The Pedestrian Mall Act has detailed instructions on how it must be voted on and put into place. The city violated those requirements. There is nothing to stop them from pursuing this path in the future, but the street is not legally allowed to remain closed while they are in the process of creating the plan. And their use of the vehicle code is problematic given existing case law supports the plaintiff’s argument that vehicular access is indeed necessary.
Toward the end, it became apparent the judge would rule in the plaintiff’s favor. The city’s attorney then requested that the remedy preclude reopening the street. The judge responded that he can only interpret and enforce the law, and if he determines the city violated the law, then the law states the remedy is to reopen the street.
He said he should have his writ and the remedy available within 90 days”

Like 3 amp 250 V fuses for an amp? With radio shack gone where does one go for such things.
What happened to this city? it's heartbreaking.
Lived here for almost 40 years, it's disheartening to see what's happened to it. All the empty buildings, very few businesses coming in. You drive through Oxnard or 1000 Oaks, or Camarillo. Tons of building and expansion. But here. don't see much of anything.
A friend of mine had her candy cauldron stolen last night when she stepped away for a moment.
The cauldron was her late father's and she would like it back.
This happened near Elmhurst Elementary.
Hey I need to get up on my roof to do DIY solar that I have permitted and I hate ladders and on the exterior there are rain gutters with steep ledges and no study ways to get a ladder up there unless I screw some 2 by 4’s into a rafter to hold that ladder. Then I’m still transferring from ladder to steep slope on roof 11 feet over concrete.
So I’m thinking Instead I put a ladder up in my carpeted closet up into my attic and put a screwed in plank floor up there for about 6 feet to a spot with less of a slope where I could easily cut a 2 foot by 15 inch hole in the roof. Then I just pop out the cut part and use a few 2 by 6’s to build a box for the roof piece and a rim on roof for it to fit on.
Bingo I have a roof hatch with about an hour of sawing and wood work. Then I reshingle / elastomeric around it and it’s waterproof and I have an easy way to get all the gear up without dangling over the concrete ( panels would fit through both hatches).
Do you you think anyone would notice or care and considering I could always put it back how it was when the work is done do you think I need a permit.
Anyone ever added a roof hatch to an angle roof? I could also add the hatch on the flat roof in my garage which would be less noticeable but then I’d still be going up a ladder, but it would be very stable.
Ideas? What’s enforcement like?
So Ive been here for almost a couple years now and have yet to seek out a good bowl of Menudo! Can you guys give me some recommendations on where I can find one?
Will downtown Ventura be popping tonight? Looking to go out to bars and walk around , is there anything going on
Has an issue at my preferred testing spot of Thousand Oaks dmv and only place I could schedule for next day was venture dmv (market street). Have never really driven in the area however my driving instructor has said I should have no issue passing based off my driving in Thousand Oaks. Any tips or warning? Thank you all
I am writing as a resident of Ventura and a frequent visitor to downtown, particularly Main Street. Over the past few years, the decision to keep Main Street closed to cars has transformed it into a vibrant, pedestrian-friendly zone that has brought immense value to our community. It has created a unique gathering space that encourages foot traffic, supports local businesses with outdoor dining opportunities, and provides a safe and enjoyable environment for pedestrians and families.
In addition to its charm and convenience, this area has become a culturally significant part of Ventura, offering a distinct atmosphere for residents and visitors alike. Being close to the beach and pier, this pedestrian space enhances the experience of our beautiful city and attracts people who value a car-free zone in an otherwise car-dominated city.
While I understand that some property owners are concerned about a potential loss of business due to limited vehicle access, I believe it’s essential to look at the bigger picture. Should Main Street reopen to cars, Ventura may risk losing its current visitors to other destinations like State Street in Santa Barbara or the Collection in Oxnard, where pedestrian-friendly areas are valued and celebrated. Reverting to a pre-closure model would, in my opinion, be a step backwards.
Instead, I challenge our property owners, business owners, and city leaders to come together and reinvest in Main Street, making it an even more accessible and welcoming pedestrian space. By adding thoughtful enhancements such as plants, benches, and fixtures, we can create an even more inviting atmosphere while exploring other ways to ensure accessibility for all.
As you consider this important decision, I urge you to preserve Main Street as a pedestrian zone, recognizing its unique role in supporting our community, attracting visitors, and promoting Ventura as a vibrant, modern city.
Thank you for your time and for considering my perspective. I look forward to seeing Ventura continue to prioritize spaces that benefit our community and promote a welcoming environment for all.
Ventura residents - hopefully you hate the Ventura Auto Center sign as much as I do and will support having it removed. There has been a lot of effort put into having it adjusted to the original conditions it was permitted to, with no success. First effort was to adjust the angle (it was approved for an angle facing more to the freeway and less to the city, but was built towards the city and then approved). There was originally a promise of louvers to limit light pollution upward, never installed. There was originally a promise to turn it off late at night, that doesn’t happen either. As you also probably know, this “Auto Center Billboard” shows almost no ads for the auto center, and lots of ads for fast food, insurance companies and a bunch of others. I’m not positive, but I’ve heard the billboard is owned by a Los Angeles group working with the auto center. This blight brought to you by LA…
And finally, it is built on public land, and our city is considering gifting that land to the auto center/billboard group with nothing in return.
Read the petition and sign if you agree - we don’t need this giant digital advertisement broadcasting at our city and ruining our night sky. Thanks
Anyone else hear a loud bang last night around 10 on east end? Thought it might have been a gunshot and I heard a police or ambulance siren shortly after.

Hello, I am a Santa Barbara native who will be taking a lovely lady out for a date in the Ventura area this Sunday. I wanted to ask about some fun date ideas you wonderful Venturans would know about. I like to make the first date adventurous. The surrounding areas of Ventura are doable. I already looked at The Mighty Axe in Oxnard, as axe throwing is always fun. TIA :)
Do we know which of the city council candidates will keep Main St closed to cars?
Hi people of Ventura! Moving to Ventura at the end of November with my fiance who is a travel nurse at local hospital. Anyone know of any places hiring? I have experience serving, retail, teaching, and restaurant management.
Looking for anything and appreciate your help!
You should know that Nazanin Madaen's city council campaign is part of her ongoing battle with the Ventura Land Trust (VLT), where she and other wealthy hillside residents who have encroached on neighboring land are coordinating to disrupt VLT's efforts to create an open space for all Venturans to enjoy. (See: They halted hillside homes. Now they want Calif. hikers out, too.)
From Naz's campaign website: "Currently we are involved in a lawsuit with the Ventura Land Trust, our new neighbor in part of District 2. While we are dealing with our own personal battle with them, it wasn’t until I heard what my other neighbors were experiencing with them that caused me to run for City Council."
If you're wondering what Naz's personal battle refers to, you can read VLT's initial court filing online (Case No. 2023CUOR008712): "Ventura Land Trust seeks to remedy the trespass on and damage to the Mariano Rancho Preserve...when...heavy equipment entered the Preserve from [Naz's] adjacent property and cut into a steep slope along the southern edge of the Preserve in an apparent effort to widen a flat area adjacent to [Naz's] property."
In response, Naz Madaen's property trust countersued VLT for alleged "property damage to land, annoyance, discomfort, emotional distress, and mental anguish resulting from the interference with [their] peaceful enjoyment of their property."
This countersuit reflects Naz's opposition to VLT's mission of managing a nature preserve for all Venturans. Her campaign website elaborates: "VLT has plans to put up fencing on property lines and create new trails that would be placed just 150 feet behind people’s homes. By their own account, they anticipate hundreds of new daily visitors on these trails."
Those visitors would be the same Venturans who fought to preserve the hillside for future generations' enjoyment, which Naz now seeks to limit as a city council member.
P.S. I am a concerned citizen not affiliated with VLT, city council members, or city council candidates.
Oxnard native and trying to take my little siblings somewhere worth going to get treats, but full size bars?
