Can anyone help me?
I am an international student and I have a project where I have to talk about the political system of Vanuatu. I understand most of the political system, but I am particularly interested in the Council of Chiefs. I understand that the members of this council are elected by the District Councils of Chiefs but there are certain things I don't understand about it clearly.
My questions are the following:
Who are the Chiefs in the first place?
Are they eleted by the people?
How do they become part of a district council?
Does every district have to have a representative in the Council of Chiefs?
How many Chiefs does the Council of Chiefs have?
How many District Councils of Chiefs are there?
How many Chiefs are there?
What is the function of the Chiefs, what do they do?
I know those are many questions, but I could not find any information abut this online, even in the constitution of Vanuatu, so I would be happy to get an answer from you.
Thank you in advance.
Hi, i will be visiting vanuatu in a week and was wondering about the best way to get around. I will be on Efate in a Hotel 30km away from the airport (near Enam) and I don't know if it will be more expensive to get a scooter/car or use taxis/buses. I will need to get into town a couple of times for scuba diving. The hotel would provide a shuttel for 7000vut, can someone tell me if this seems resonable or if a normal taxi would be cheaper. And do busses also drive outside of port vila?
I know, a lot of questions, but thanks if someone takes the time to answer!
Cheers!
Hello, I am flying into Santo next month and my core goal of the trip is to meet a indigenous tribe. I have been in touch with a local through one of the lodges and he says that he has spoken to the chief of one and can make it happen.
Can anyone recommend any other must do things? I am planning to snorkel and visit a blue hole. I have one week and am willing to travel to other islands.
Thank you in advance! :)
Just a word of warning, Mangoes randomly took 116GBP from my credit card last week. If you’ve stayed with them, keep an eye on your bank statements.
Open to all suggestions including fine dining
My partner and I are hoping to visit Vanuatu in late March. I understand that there will be rainfall, but is it so much so that we should reconsider?
Staying in PV for 5 days in December and I was wondering if I could join a day tour as I won't have too much time to spend in Vanuatu
I (27F) have booked a 7-day trip to Vanuatu this month, and I’m feeling a bit nervous as I’m having a hard time finding some information.
How should I get from Port Vila to Tanna? I’ve booked a resort but I’m checking out and leaving Port Vila on the 30th.
Any useful advice on cash/card? Best way to travel around town? Will I meet other solo travellers? Do tours only accept a booking of min. 2 persons? Which Mt Yasur tour would you recommend?
Appreciate if you could share your experience!
Hi, I am planning an upcoming trip to Vanuatu between 25/10/2024 - 03/11/2024..
My main goals are to visit Tanna Island - Blue Cave and Mt Yasur after sunset. Ambrym Island - multiday hike to Mount Marum & Mount Benbow.
Air Vanuatu website is not working for me & I am struggle to find information on flights to those Islands. Any advice is apprecaited :)
Hey! Wanted thoughts on spending the last Xmas shutdown week in Vanuatu, specifically Aore. What can I expect the weather to be?
I am currently trying to start a YouTube channel on Austro-Tai studies. I have tried doing my own narration and it is pretty exhausting, so I was wondering if anyone was interested in taking that role. I have a low budget, so I am willing to start at $50 for 2500 words, but I am open to increasing that if I like your work and my channel continues to grow. Let me know if you are interested.
I am planning a trip in the next couple of weeks and my main goal is to get Santo island from Port Vila. Judging from recent news articles it seems that Air Vanuatu is quite hit and miss and can be quite dangerous.
Does anyone have previous experience travelling via plane to these islands and how long it takes etc? Thank you.
Just returned from a visit to Aore Island and Santo. Our minds were blown and our senses were overwhelmed. Spent the week staying on Aore Island, popping in and out of “town” most days and did a tour. The tour included the usual suspects, Champagne beach, Port Olrey and Matevulu Blue Hole. All were breathtaking and shocking in their tremendous beauty. Thank you to the people of Luganville for your friendliness and smiles and food. We will return.
I am visiting Vanuatu over the next weeks and was wondering 1. if and how we can get tickets for the qualifier match vs. Samoa and 2. where to buy the national jersey?
Thank you!
Tomorrow we (my girlfriend and I) are arriving in Port Vila. We are looking for some help to plan the most fantastic plan for the coming ~3 weeks.
As we make our plan we have some specific questions in the below: • Stay for a few days in Port Vila to get accustomed to Vanuatu • Go to Banks islands, we really like authentic culture with not so many tourists. Question for you - we see flights to Gaua and Moto Lava from Santo. But, is there also a way to move between the islands, by boat or ferry for example? How to best book that? Or best to go to other islands? • Seperately we plan to visit both Tanna and Santo for a few days. They look fantastic and plenty of information to find. Any tips for best homestays in these islands? • Traveling out of Vanuatu we were wondering if there is any boat from the banks islands to the Solomon Islands. Would you know if that exists?
Anything we missed? Very open for any tips!
I’m looking for some help to move my used kitchenware & household items (probably less than 20 small items) from Fiji to Vanuatu, end of next year. Please point me to the right direction.
Just got into port villa. Do I get VUV out or use my card? Does anyone know if wise works?
Could I get your thoughts on these three islands? Obviously Efate has the most infrastructure and Aore the least, but beyond that. What's the overall vibe? The people? The number of expats? I'd be making a permanent move in a few months (retiring). I'm pretty laid back and not necessarily looking for an expat enclave since this going to be my new home. Aore seems to be really nice, but I'm worried that since this is a permanent move and not just a vacation home that it might be a little too isolated to live life day to day.
Im just after some advice, wondering what peoples average spend would be while visiting Vanuatu for 8 days, accommodation is paid for so just after a ballpark figure, it would be 2 adults 2 children, thanks in advance!
Hi everyone,
Me and my gf are planning a pacific island holiday and we are definitely interested in visiting Vanuatu. I was wondering if I could seek some advice on where to go and what to do in Vanuatu for the above days. And also a small run down of prices would be amazing if possible.
Thankyou

Has anyone did CBI this year?
Hello! I read about Mount Yasur and it's really cool. Just wondering how safe it is to visit it? In terms of (1) falling into the lava by accident, (2) breathing in particulates which may have health consequences.
Additionally, may I ask if there is cruise that goes to Tanna Island, on which Mount Yasur is situated? I looked up some cruises and their only stops in Vanuatu are Champagne Bay, Mystery Island, Santo and Port Vila, none of which is on Tanna.
Thanks!!
