Anything and everything vampire-related, from the classics to modern-day!
Rules
No harassing, name-calling, targeting, etc. Simply put, be nice.
While posts can be made related to vampire tv shows, books, and movies, please make the posts about actual vampire-lore or to do specifically with the vampire aspect of the show/movie/book. For example, this is not a subreddit to discuss the plot lines/who's your favorite character/relationship drama/etc. of a specific show. General questions about favorite characters and such may be asked.
Please attempt to use proper grammar/spelling.
If a post is NSFW, please mark it as so. Failing to do this will result in removal of post.
Flair can be edited. Inappropriate flair will result in a request for removal. If flair is not removed, it may result in banning.
Ultimately, as moderator, I will make decisions based on these rules and you may message me about any disagreements. Repeated offenses may result in banning. These rules are subject to change. If you see any violation of these rules, please report it/let me know.
Also, while not necessary, the following markers would be useful if added to your titles:
[Question] - Any questions on the subject that would not be considered conversation starters. i.e. "Where did the vampire myth originate?" would get this marker, but "Which historical "vampire" is your favorite?" would not.
[Book] - If you are recommending a book (not discussing one)
[Movie] - If you are recommending a movie (not discussing one)

I just finished the 2022 series Interview with the Vampire and I loved it so much, the plot, characters and acting are all so nuanced and just perfect really.
Should I read the book by Anne Rice? Does it have a similar vibe to the show, or did the show take quite a few creative liberties? I'd hate to be disappointed by the source material and figured this was the place to get advice.
Can anyone recommend similar vampire media? Either TV, films or books is fine - I'm looking for something similarly serious and moody rather than comedic, with a real plot and developed characters. Romance would be nice but not essential, and I'm not really looking for anything Dracula- or Nosferatu-esque where there's only one vampire and they're the villain or monster.
Any recommendations appreciated! :)
Hi r/vampires, I've got a question about a piece of media.
There is a scene I remember, but I cannot for the life of me remember what media it was from (or even if it was animated or live-action, but if I had to guess I would say animated). I'm also reasonably certain it was vampire related but I'm willing to be corrected on that.
The scene is that there's a ball of what I am reasonably sure are vampires, and it's in the modern day or close to it. The serving staff are actually there to attempt to rob the guests, thinking they're all just rich weirdos, and end up getting bodied by the vampires.
Google has been unhelpful, other than showing me this subreddit exists, so I ask: what scene am I remembering, and what is it from? Apologies if I'm misremembering it being about vampires, but I'm currently convinced I'm correct about that part.
Thanks in advance!
Self-expression through individual style is a powerful and valid form of art, just like any other medium. The way we dress, the accessories we choose, and even the way we style our hair can convey our personality, values, and emotions. This form of self-expression allows us to communicate without words, making a statement about who we are and what we stand for. Just as with art, music, or writing, our personal style is a canvas that reflects our unique identity and creativity. To relate to vampires (or what you believe a vampire would look like physically) by dressing and appearing as such, is just another expression of the love for vampiric lore. Isn’t this subreddit about the love of vampires?
So for this thought experiment let's pretend vampires were real and we killed them all off and that's why they're folk lore now. So moving on having worked on a farm and prepared animals removing blood from an animal doesn't make the animals look squeezed dry. So I know there's different types of after effects from the thin and skin tight to just cold and pale and lifeless.
So starting with the easiest the almost mummified looking victims who were drained. I'm going to call that medieval ignorance and call it fat instead of blood drinking. If you look at pictures of the India famine and look at a drained corpse the similarities are there. This at least makes more sense if the supernatural runs off of calories and nutrients. Also back in day where only the rich were fat loosing 15-20lbs was a death sentence.
Now for the more recent they don't look mummified and are just pale with no blood. This one goes more on the ritual side. Considering how many rituals throughout time had blood or human sacrifice as a main or at the least important ingredient. I'm willing to call this one ritualistic feeding. Which is why a vampire can drink a towns full of people. The blood is being sacrificed. Like throwing food in a fire for a Greek God the blood is mostly gone once it enters the vampire. Obviously it's not a perfect 1-1 scale since vamps get full but I'd argue it's close. This would make vampires drinking blood a ritual to exchange blood for supernatural fuel.
Last looking at vampire bats with having to consume 40% of their body weight daily. An the average person haveing 11lbs of blood in the body. That's 5-7 bodies a day on the low end. sustainable isn't the problem it's finding the time while pretending to be an ambush predator. Hiding int he dark wouldn't really work if you had to empty a house every night. So with that being said I give you soul sucking. It would go neatly with vampires not able to see their reflection. Since the whole lack of soul thing they have going on. The main difference between this and above is that above implies a ritual to a greater being or supernatural mechanic. While this implies the vampire sucking out the blood allows for it to take the soul or life force generated by the soul. This allows the vampire to continue moving and being a high functioning undead.
So yea fat, ritual, and soul sucking. In two blood is a medium but not the actual thing being fed on.
Are there any aspiring vampire scientist just like morbius in this group? That want to create new vampire types?
I'm just curies abouth thes and wonder, what would the vampire do if a human refuse them to be they mate. 🤔
HIII im stars0up (i go by stars0upsy on my art insta account) and I made a vampire OC!! She actually fits into a story I made up along with other characters.. including a vampire hunter who is sort of a rival to her??
Anyway, the feedback I would really like at the moment is solely for her design.. because the mire I stare at her, the more I can't help but think she looks abit stereotypical??
She's supposed to be really flamboyant and is sort of a seductress kind of character.. because as a human she was really controlled to be prim and proper.
Sooo yea i would love if vampire lovers alike have any feedback for me?? Thanks so much!! :3
I've had this a long time. I was gonna sell it at one point. I'm not sure you could offer me enough now.
I'm writing a book that has vampires and I need help with tltheir aging process. I plan on them aging ten vampire years for every hundred human years but I'm having trouble with it. At first, I thought of having it be ten vampire years for every hundred human years, then having it be five vampire years for every fifty human years and one vampire year for every ten human years but I don't know if this makes sense for vampires. Would this be accurate for a vampires age and is my math correct? (I didn't finish school)
