In previous versions that setting was available, but somewhere missing in v17.
I'm choosing between parallels and VMware fusion at work for Linux vm.
The default Fedora aarch64 (gnome and wayland) in parallels has something installed that makes it smooth to worth with.
I've tried the same in VMware (kde and wayland) but I can't get the same smoothness, like the 3d acceleration is not working.
Do I need to install something specific? I've seen some xf86-video-vmware but it's x11 only.
Hey everyone!
I’m gearing up for the 5V0-31.23 VMware Cloud Foundation Deployment Specialist exam, and I’m a bit nervous since it's my first time with this certification. I've been working in IT for a while, mainly in sysadmin roles, but this is my first deep dive into VMware certifications.
Does anyone have any recommendations for resources or tips on what to focus on? I’ve been studying the official VMware documentation and some online guides, but I’m wondering if there are specific topics that tend to show up more often on the exam.
Also, if anyone has experience with practice exams or mock tests that simulate the exam format, I'd love to hear about it! Any advice or guidance would be super helpful. Thanks in advance!
Not sure If I'm going crazy or what here.
I am Trying to run Cisco CML on my laptop to do some modeling but continuously get the "Intel VTX not supported warning when I power on the VM guest. I have enabled Intel VTX in the bios, I have disabled Core Isolation, disabled Microsoft Hyper V, Virtual Machine Platform and Windows Hypervisor Platform in the Windows features section, set they Hypervisor Launch type to OFF, rebooted about a million times.... and still same issues.
For context I am running the following:
HP Zbook G9
Windows 11 Pro Ver 23H2
VMware Workstation 17.6.1 build-24319023
Cisco CML Ver 2.6.1
Anything Im missing here? Anything I find on the web people are using Vmware Workstation 16 with Windows 11 am I the only one running VMware Ver 17?? Thank you in advance.
Hi, as I was navigating VMWare esxi.v8 with one Virtual machine, I thought I chose to delete one hard drive but in fact it deleted the vmdk. Searched this forum, found 'ssmmsp/need to recover' post, and began to step through the process. I'm stuck though on being unable to find the flat file needed to find the size.
Is there anything else I or someone can do (even remotely)? No backups available AFAIK.

I have VMware vVenter and ESXi's, but I have an employee that works in another state that wants to reach back through a customers zero client to a VDI. Biggest step for me is does my current hardware/software support it or do I need to purchase it? Trying to look through how to's and they are vague. Since broadcom took over documentation sucks. Any help pointing me in the right direction.
Hi, i'm wondering, if i could use VmWare with an AMD Epyc 4004 Series CPU? I've searched the Broadcom-Site and many other sites (Shops, Hoster, Forum etc.) but i haven't found any proof, that someone uses this combination.
Is here anyone, that has a system with an AMD Epyc 4004 Series CPU running and Vmware ESXI installed and is willing to share his experience? :)
How do i do it, Or do i need to use another program?
I am on Vmare workstation 17.6 and with the host being Windows 11. I am trying to get Red Hat 9.4 to work. at first I just get black screens. I changed out video drivers using SSH and got it to boot but now I can't get it to see Vmware tools. it's all grayed out on VM menu. I tried another VM a Rocky and a Unbuntu one and some say can't install legecy tools but tehya re not legecy OSes. Whats going on?

I don't see any alerts in vcenter and the host level, once I put the host into normal lockdown mode, the host will appear as above.
In the 7.0u2, I just see the lock icon but not this icon of red circle exclamation mark when I enter the lockdown mode...
I'm looking for the link to the vcenter converter 6.6, I need to convert a physical Linux server to a virtual unless somebody else has any other options most of the ones I found are for Windows.
We are researching into moving our startup insfrastructure from vm perpetual license to OpenStack using KVM as hypervisor..Any hint on those who have gone this route before will be appreciated
We were just trying to update the vSphere Management SDK we use in our software and found that VMware / Broadcom seem to have dropped support for .NET in favour of Java/Python.
I was trying compile the gigantic WSDL file and kept getting lots of problems such as
I've blogged the solution basically had to create a new .NET project disable the generation of a serialization assembly then create it manually with sgen and then reference the external serializers dll and rebuild the DLL again.
https://david-homer.blogspot.com/2024/11/solved-compile-vsphere-management-sdk.html
Is there an easier way than this? I don't see Broadcom providing a compiled .NET library (except the one that comes with PowerCLI and that doesn't have the serializers dll so will probably be really slow?)

Apologize if this is not the right place so take this down if it is, however I am a bit stumped on this issue I am having. Just got a new QNAP for a client to move their backups to this as opposed to the storage they currently have. QNAP itself has 24 TB of usable storage on it. I can add the storage no problem to VMware, however, the maximum file size is 16 TB. Is there a reason I wouldn't be able to have the full 24 TB of storage? Feel like I might be missing something. It is setup as NFS storage. They are on VMware vCenter version 7.0.3. Any help or advice is appreciated.
In a site that I now manage, I have some VMs at version 5.5 compatibility, hosted by ESX7.x, managed by vCenter 8. Can I upgrade the compatibility level direct from 5.5 to 7.x, without fear, or does it need to be done in increments?
Good afternoon everyone, I'm new here and I need some help,
I have a virtual machine and in a power outage it corrupted, I need to recover some of her files, Can you help me?
Did anyone get a quote for the new Enterprise Plus license? From what i heard there are no more discounts at all so the new Enterprise Plus is more expensive then the "old" new discounted vSphere Foundation. I find that quite disturbing if true - less features for even more money...
So i have a HA cluster with two hosts (esx8 and esx9).
I upgraded the esx9 host without any problems (migrated out the VMs, maintenance mode, upgrade through vcenter, done).
But now i am stuck.
Trying to upgrade esx8 just says "unexpected error".
Trying to upgrade vcenter itself, just... so, many, problems:) Currently it seems to want me to attach an ISO to the VM. Also it seems to dislike that the ESXes are at different versions.
Maybe i fu**ed up by starting the upgrade with the ESXes?
A bunch of screenshots showing the situation: https://imgur.com/a/wnXsWAb
Does anyone have any suggestions? :)
Environment: SRA's - 10.2, SRM's - 9.13, and vCenter is patched to 8.0.3. Compatibility has been verified.
When I go to the "Site Recovery" option in the vSphere menu, I only see one of my sites listed. I can hit the drop down in the "Instances" menu and select the other site, though, but both instances display the same information.
Whichever instance I choose, it displays the vCenter, a box underneath that should take me to the site if I click it, (it doesn't do anything), and then another box that displays "undefined".
In short, nothing is clickable, and where I used to see both sites listed and be able to click on a site, I could choose to either go to the maintenance UI, or the administration UI. None of that information is displayed.
I have rebooted the SRM's as well as the vCenters.
I have unregistered/reregistered the SRM's as well as reconfigured them.
I have tried 3 different browsers (Edge, Chrome, Firefox) as well as the "in private / incognito" options.
I have cleared the cache, history, cookies, etc.
I have logged in with my SSO acount as well as the admin account.
None of that has helped.
The SRM's have been registered with vSphere and the plug-in's are the correct versions. The SRA's have been registered on the SRM's. The actual webpages of the SRM's work and that is my work around. The site links and the recovery plans also work, so I seem to have full functionality.
This seems to be a registration issue of some sort, but I'm not sure what is corrupted or unregistered.
Any thoughts?
Hi all,
I have two hosts (Lenovo SR650), I have to connect a Lenovo DE4000h storage connected in direct attach. The storage has 5 SSD and 4 SAS disks. I created two raid 5s, one for the ssd and one for the sas. The SSD part runs the VMs and the SAS part acts as a file server. Is this a good setup?
Thank you
Version: VMware Fusion 13.6.1
So When it no longer ships with legacy windows or non-windows guests vmware tools iso, I could download manually and putting these isos to C:\Program Files (x86)\VMware\VMware Workstation
to make "Install VMware Tools" work. but on macOS, I use VMware Fusion, I put legacy vmware tools isos to /Applications/VMware Fusion.app/Contents/Library/isoimages
, it still doesn't work with using "Install VMware Tools" Button.
I am really annoying to manually put iso every time.
I was just looking up something in the VMware Compatibility Guide (https://www.vmware.com/resources/compatibility/search.php) and saw this message at the top:
Alert: VMware Compatibility Guide will become the Broadcom Compatibility Guide on Nov 11, 2024. It will have a the same information presented with the Broadcom UI, https://compatibilityguide.broadcom.com
I tried accessing the new site, but I get a Cloudflare Error 1006 Access denied page which says "The owner of this website (compatibilityguide.broadcom.com) has banned your IP address". Hopefully that is just temporary thing before the page goes live.
Hey folks,
I recently updated to build 24322018 (7.0.3) and it seems that I have somehow lost my permissions to create VMs either from template or just plain "create a vm".
I have admin permissions and have the same permissions as someone else who's able to create them.
Errors received:
This is from "Deploy from Template":
You do not have permission to create a virtual machine from a library template in the selected resource. Select another location.
And from "Create a virtual machine":
You do not have the privilege "Resource > Assign virtual machine to resource pool" on the selected cluster.
Any ideas what might be happening?
We've been using vRealize SaaS to look at our clusters capacity planning but with its removal on Dec6, we are looking at alternatives.
We are using Zabbix so I looked at its template for vmware. Sadly, it mostly collect items from hosts and vms but not much about the cluster itself.
What will you be using?
Hello,
I was just going to book my second attempt of VCAP Deploy, but apparently the exam is no longer listed in PearsonVUE.
Does that have something to do with the upcoming changes in Broadcom VCP Program? Or is it being updated for vSphere 8 (previously it was for ver. 7)?
VCAP-DCV Design is still available.
Are there any details known?
EDIT: Apparently I have missed the announcement:
Smaller, intense, not sure what happens next year. But!
6/5 to vHarvest session with Nagashree and Mr. Beveridge. This was the best thing in few years. We are waiting eagerly to hear more and to be part of beta testing. One of the best technical presentations there was this year, thanks N. 🔥🔥🔥
Surely it can't just be me.
Every table is sized in a way that makes it nearly unreadable until you manually resize the columns every. freaking. time. that you load a new view.
This worked fine in vSphere 4, 5, 6, 7.
Sorry for the rant, but I'm just kind of dumbfounded that this is still broken in the u3 release of vSphere 8. This should've been addressed in a beta.
And don't even get me started on how some pages now randomly have checkboxes for things that should be radio buttons or line selections...
I've had probably 6-7 vm's and one host have network issues immediately after updating hosts to the current patch Examples. NICs for vmotion going disco and coming back. Never had that issue before.
Vm's all of a sudden losing all connectivity until powered off and back on. Not rebooted, powered off.
Vm's losing connectivity on a Vswitch with 2 nics in active, moved to another host, work fine, moved back no connectivity, remove one nic from the vswitch and it works. Its not all the VM's on that vswitch, just 4 out of 10. These issues all arose right after updating.
