I would like to ask for cluster vm like window failover cluster, there are some shared disks on the cluster hosting in 2 vm.
Currently the datastore is vSAN, We will have a external vVols datastore, how can I migrate this type vms ?
I purpose we need to do the follows.
mark down the owner node in Cluster who hold the shared disks
Shut down the Cluster
Shutdown both vm(owner node and secondary node)
remove the shared disks mapping in secondary node
storage vMotion the both vm to external vVols datastore
edit the secondary node and add existing shared disks(which owner node's disk)
bring up the owner node
bring up the secondary node
Login to the owner node and bring up the cluster in Failover Cluster Manager
hi everyone, i have a VM that is not included and not shown in vcenter vm list. i connect this vm via remote desktop. i accidently turn off this vm instead of logoff. how can i turn on this VM remotely. thanks for the help
Is there a support matrix tool to check which vmware version (including patches) are compatible with which hpe spp e.g. 2024.11 on the latest vmware patch?
I haven‘t found a good source to precheck. Most of the time there is only information available like compstible with 8.0U3
And how to determine which vendor addon to choose? Do you always take the latest version of each?
Any hints?
Sorry, I'm a bit new to this.
I have an Edge Gateway managing a public IP pool and two VDC networks: one private and the other with public IP addresses from the available pool.
When I assign a public IP address directly to a VM, it fails to work—there's no internet connectivity. On the other hand, using SNAT and DNAT enables connectivity, but I want to avoid NAT translations altogether. My goal is to assign a public IP to each VM directly.
Any ideas?
I'm on 17.6.1 build-24319023 running on Fedora KDE Spin 41. My guest is Windows 10 (22H2 19045.5198) with VMware Tools 12.4.5 build 23787635.
I have tried to toggle "Exclusive mode"/full screen etc. but the issue persists. When the guest is out of focus, keystrokes are still sent to the guest - this seems random too, at least for now.
With Exclusive mode on, keystrokes performed inside the guest are also registered on the host. Especially hotkeys.
What could be the culprit here?
I'm testing layer 2 network extension from on-premise environment to a Cloud Director tenant backed by NSX-T (4.1.x). I created a L2VPN session in Server mode on the Edge in the vCloud tenant and installed a Autonomous Edge on on-premise environment. As mentionned into docs, I need to create a VLAN trunk portgroup onto VDS with Promiscuous Mode and Forged Transmits in Accept mode.
Everything is fine (L2VPN connection and sessions UP)... but when I just ping -t between 2 VMs (VM-1 on-premise and VM-2 into the vCloud tenant) connected to the "same" network, I got a lot of packet loss (between 3% and 10%)..... that's a real problem for realtime application or 2/3-tier applications.
Any advice ?
Just spent the last 30min trying to figure out how to download Workstation Pro. I still have no idea.
If they want to make it this hard to download, I can't imagine trying to get any sort of support.
VirtualBox will suit me fine. Farewell VMWare, it was great while it lasted.
I am running 7.0.3 build-24026615...I am not sure if that is the version I was coming from or the version I was going to, but the patch has been stuck at 93% for months now (I know, I just haven't gotten back to working on it)
The last lines in /var/log/vmware/applmgmt/PatchRunner.log are
stderr:

Where do I go from here? A reboot hasn't helped
Despite having paid support, they ignore emails. Phone calls keep diverting to different departments for hours.
Have an issue and I figured i'd see if anyone here could help/ran into something similar.
I have a machine with RHEL 9.4 running VMware Workstation 17.6.1. On the host (rhel 9.4), I have no issues seeing/accessing the drive (sandisk ultra 3.2 256gb fdd) formatted as a ntfs. I've tried connecting to 2 different rhel 9 VM's( the vms's are on a 7.U2 esxi server that im conecting to through workstation 17.6.1) and get the same issue. I check dmesg | grep usb* (on the guests) and get a bunch and failure to enumerate errors. Originally thought it was the vmware-usbarbitrator, but i can see that its started and ran by root on the host.
I've tried 2.0 and 3.0 for the usb controller.
Due to constraints, i have to connect the media through this rhel 9.4 machine with workstation 17.6.1.
Any help would be greatly appreciated and if you need anymore details please just ask. Thanks!
I am trying to add a switch to communicate from VM to host (still learning here). After I add a new network adaptor from the VM (Ubuntu), how do I configure the adapter to use an internal IP address ? I saw the there is an option to configure MAC address; but nothing about assigning IP. Do I need to configure this manually from within the VM ? Just thought there should be easier way to do it from the web client. Thanks.
I have been running VMWare Player without issue for nearly 2 years. Our company migrated to a new domain now my VM does not get DHCP. It looks like a policy change as I cannot install the update for Player and the VM works in Virtualbox, so not sure there is anything I can do. Virtualbox sux. I would like to assign either the wireless or wired NIC to the VM. Is there a way to do this in Player? All of the options I found are either for ESXi or Workstation. Any other suggestions to try to get the VM back online?
Hi bros.
I want to configure vmware to use multi gpus with nvswitch.
but, It is so difficult for me and I just try and try again alone u.u
well, Did you configure it in vCenter/vShpere or ESXi host? If you yes, Let me know how to do.
dear bros plz help me.
The newer versions of VMware workstation save a ton of different logs by default. I managed do disable them all except "mksSandbox.log". I can't find any information online on how to disable that file. Is there any way?
I have an app that displays 3D models. It allows you to select between DirectX and OpenGL renderers as well as the AA level.
With VMWare acceleration on, if I try to use AA in Directx mode, the model essentially doesn't render. It will only show with AA turned off in DX mode which looks terrible.. OpenGL mode works with AA but for whatever reason the models are rendered very dark.
Both guest and host are win 10. I tried turning off VMWare acceleration and that allowed DirectX AA 2x, 4x, and 8x to work, but even at 2x it's painfully slow to move the model around.
I tried increasing the video memory to no avail. I added mks.forceDiscreteGPU = true
to the vmx which also made no difference.
Any other ideas?
am I correct in that the training has all gone back to Broadcom and needs an account manager to gain access to learning, or are the 3rd party websites like Stormwinds a valid option to train and take the test? are there still class requirements for the certifications?
I'll start by saying I realize I'm an idiot. I'm far from great at vmware and had a host die. I'm unsure how to proceed. I initially paid a company to set this up for me.
*******
What I have -
vCenter
A 3 host esxi cluster
A SAN for shared storage
Essentials plus licensing across the board
All standard switches. No distributed switches.
*******
What happened -
One host had a system board failure and went offline. The VMs failed over to a living host so no services were effected. HP replaced the dead system board, but this came with new TPM. I now know that I should have backed up the TPM recovery key for the host prior... but I did not know that before this. I'm greeted with a purple screen of death about a security violation which I now understand to be from the TPM.
I backed up the recovery key on the remaining hosts just in case. This sadly doesn't help me with my dead host though.
I do not have a config backup of the host. I backed up vCenter but not the host configs, again because I'm dumb.
*******
My question #1 -
Is there some way to get the TPM recovery key for the dead host off vCenter? I pulled the living host's keys off the actual hosts but I'm hoping maybe the vCenter instance stores/knows the TPM recovery key for the host that is now dead.
*******
My question #2 -
I can see the config of the old host in vCenter. Is there a way to export this, reinstall esxi on the dead host, and restore this config on the "new" host.
*******
My question #3 -
If not, and I have to rebuild, what am I missing? Is anything out of order?
1- Reinstall esxi on the host.
2- Input license key into the host
3- Setup vmkernel adapters to match old config.
4- Setup standard switches and physical nics to match the old config.
5- Figure out how to link the datastores to the SAN datastores again. They are fine on the other hosts.
6- Remove the dead host from the cluster
7- Add the "new" host to the cluster
I'm honestly trying to pay the same company to come back in and get this thing back if I need to rebuild but if it takes them too long, and I get in a pinch, I might have to wing it.
I would like to implement “vSAN file service” for SMB share integrated into Active Directory in a 6Nodes vSAN ESA Cluster
Does anyone have this solution in production?
I would like to use it as a repository for about 600 FSLogix profiles. Any insights or advice is appreciated!
i've been using ESXi 6.7.0 Update 3 (Build 17167734), the free version, for sometime now on a lil home test server. the hardware is quite dated and it's about time i wind down this server.
i have VMware Workstation 17 Pro ver:17.5.2 build-23775571 running on a linux notebook. i used vmware exsi web interface to export a vm to my linux notebook, then tried to run it with Workstation Pro but it just hung.
what is the way to export a VM from an ESXi server, (i dont' have vCenter), to another computer and have Workstation Pro run it or convert it so it will run? is that possible?
I really need a way to find a free version or a place to buy a key
I run New Virtual Machine to install from disk ("Easy Install"), 40GB disk, 8GB RAM, Finish. The orange Ubuntu logo shows up for ~1m then the guest screen goes black and stays that way.
Any suggestions?
(20.04 & 22.04 install with no issues.)
Hey guys,
So my homelab server got the following specs :
I have set up PCI Passthrough for the graphic card to my Windows "Gaming VM"
Streaming with Sunshine and Moolight is working fine but the problem start when starting games. I'm aware that the CPU is almost 10 years old and I'm not expecting incredible performance in last AAA games so I started with the basics and there is the FPS results I got.
Games (FPS Average):
In both games CPU usage is at 50-60 % average, I tried different combinaisons of CPU settings for the VM (with 1,2,3,4 sockets since it is the maximum supported for Windows 10 Enterprise), same results...
While GPU usage in both game is always below 50%,
My intuition is that the low frequency for a single core (2.5 Ghz) is the reason of this bottleneck but i'm not really sure. I've seen Youtube video showing same specs PCs reaching 120+ FPS on these games therefore it was not virtualized machines..
Is there any way to improve perfomances in my case, I am missing something ?
Thanks for your help !
Physically unable to install Server 2025 on Fusion Professional Version 13.6.1 (24319021). I get to the set up point of the installation where I need to choose a disk, and it doesn't have any disks listed and states I need the drivers. But I can't find the vmware tools I need to install either... can anybody help?
first post got removed trying again
im using vmware workstation pro version 16.2.3 trying to run a windows xp virtual machine
i already have vmware tools installed and my desktop is full screen but when i run old software it turns into a small window with black bars around it
as you can see in the above image
i was wondering if there is a way to make it bigger by stretching it to fit my screen?

thx,
so im just guessing something wrong with the iscsi storage i attached.
i have 2 iscsi storages (A & B) connected to 3 host.
i works like a charm for 1 year.
suddenly today, I'm not able to load the esxi, if the VMs on storage B is on.
i turned off all vms on storage B. Esxi back to normal.
but i cannot power on any vms on storage B, it will said something like insuficient resources, or on the VM level it said storage are full.
All VMs under storage B, not even using 50% of the storage last friday.
So, I'm tryin to migrate all those VMs from storage B, since maybe the issue is with that datastore (Storage B)
but i cannot migrate or even move file from storage B to A,
I dont know the issue, and dont know where to start.
is there any FSCK like command on vcenter or esxi?
I need to check the health status or consistencty of a datastore.
I have to add a CA certificate to a vCenter and its hosts. The customer has provided me with thise files:
At the vCenter certifiacte manager I have initialy upload the CA.pem on the Trusted root CA section.
The next step I assume that should be:
Machine Certificate SSL --> Actions: Import and replace certificate --> Replace with a Certificate from an externa CA (request private key)
And finaly I will set the different files on the proper fiels to upload them....
However, what would happen on the last step? There is a note which indicates that the vcenter services will be restarted. Which is OK but what will happens to the hosts?? would they also reboot?
thanks
