Hi I hope this isn't a silly question but I got vaccinated for Hep B as a baby and recently did titers that showed I was not immune. I got my first shot yesterday and they told me to come back in 4 weeks, but is it possible to come back in 2 weeks for the second dose? tyia

how long to get my stereo loft results for HEPATITIS B?

  • CORRECTION: SEROLOGY RESULTS

so for my nursing clinical placements, we need to be immunized against Hepatitis B. Normally, students are required to get a minimum of two shots from the primary booster series in order to qualify for placement. They also said that if you have received the entire primary booster serious (all 3) then you need a minimum of 1 secondary booster shot for placement. so I already received three boosters as a baby but my doctor says that i’m still showing that i’m not immune. so today she gave me a secondary booster shot.

the thing is we are required to upload the serology results and my doctor told me I would have to get the other 2 boosters from the secondary series in order to get my blood work which will take a long time and will be past the deadline.

is there no way for me to find my blood work results after this booster?

Do I need a tetanos shot?

Hi! About 54 hours ago I pricked my finger with garden shears that are not rusty but had a bit of soil on them. The wound bled but just a bit and I did not find any blood on the band aid when I took it off. I immediately washed it under cold water for at least 30 seconds, the applied rubbing alcohol both on cotton and on the wound itself, after which the blood was gone. I asked the opinion of 3 pharmacists who saw a picture of the object + the wound itself, 2 told me I don't need the shot because the wound is very minor, one told me to get it anyway cause it's recommended. Went to emergency, showed the wound, doctor told me I don't need it cause it is a surface area, shears was not rusty and wound looks okay. The thing is that I have ocd and it gets particularly bad when handling health issues. I had random body cramps before due to low magnesium and whenever I feel a cramp now, I panick that it's the disease. I had the shot 3 times in my life but it has certainly been more than 10 years. I'm considering getting on Friday directly at my family doctor. Will it be too late? Am I really OK and all these thoughts are from an anxiety attack or should I get it ASAP in order to not die?

The wound is so small that sometimes I have trouble finding it. It's maybe 1mm long, perfectly cleaned, healing very nicely and I have not had any symptom expect for these random cramps that I got a lot this year anyway.

Any ideas are much appreciated!

Do adults need a polio vaccine?

Just found out, that I've got only 2 doses as a child. Is polio dangerous to adults? I googled it causes paralysis in children, but nothing about adults. Do I need to get vaccines? I'm planing travellings to Asia where polio is still exists.

Typhoid vaccine (Vivotif pills) is giving me intense stomach cramps

Ugh it sucks. I have 2 more doses. Just needed somewhere to vent lol.

My pharmacist is supposed to give me some medication for the pain. However, she wasn't entirely convinced it was the vaccine because 1) in the years they gave the vaccine, no one reported stomach pains to their pharmacy and 2) I ate old food around the same time I started the vaccine. Yes I did mess up on this part and got diarrhea because of it but usually, when I eat bad food and have diarrhea, I'm totally fine after that.

Now the diarrhea is gone and I still have cramps that come in waves. I've never felt these kinds of stomach cramps before, especially not lasting for a few days. Even my period cramps are different.

Plus, on the Vivotif website, they say the most common side effect is abdominal pain.

Another important thing to note is that every time I eat or drink anything, could be something light and literally just a bite, it triggers cramps. If I don't ingest anything for a while, the cramps subside a bit.

Wish me luck for the last two doses LOL

Is Varicella vaccine safe for someone who have exposed to chickenpox a decade ago?

Hi all,

Tried googling but couldn't find a definitive answer. I may have chickenpox a decade ago. Instead of titering, is it actually possible to just do a Varicella or MMRV vaccine?

You can get Mpox vaccines at Walgreens (not CVS)

I typically get my vaccines at CVS but they don’t carry Mpox vaccinations (at least within a few hundred miles of my location). I’m not high risk but wanted to cover all my bases as the vaccine requires two doses a month apart and a lot can happen in terms of global spread in a month.

They did seem a little confused (and basically kept asking / clarifying if I was a man having sex with men lol—I’m not). But I eventually got both my doses.

I’m posting this since I almost gave up trying to find it in my area before checking Walgreens. I did have to pay several hundred dollars deed dollars for each shot (insurance wouldn’t cover it).

No side effects other than an ever so slightly sore arm (so much better than Covid or flu shots).

F29/Common cold gone next day after Covid booster and Flu shot

Random, but interesting. I had a cold for about 4 days and 2 days later I got my Covid booster and flu vaccine… Mind you, I came to the appointment with a runny and stuffy nose, as well as an irritated throat. My eyes even had a good amount of crust when I woke up that morning. Literally the next day after my vaccines, my cold symptoms were completely gone..like I was never sick!! Amazed and blessed! Has this or something similar happened to anyone?

Does anyone know why smallpox vaccines were given to babies in the late 90s in former Soviet States.

I’m very curious why I was given the smallpox vaccine in the late 90s despite smallpox being eradicated for almost 20years at the point. Does anyone have any insight? Was there any specific reason why this was done?

Hpv vaccine - rash

Hi,

32 m - gay.

Apparently I got 2 doses of gardisal 4 in 2012. So I was gonna get the 3 doses of gardisal 9…

Anywho, I got my first dose on Tuesday. My arm, brain, health feels fine. Only issue was that I’m breaking out with red, itchy rash on chest and neck.

I’m not sure if it is related to the vaccine or maybe the new sheets I just got… I washed the sheets but they are new.

Anyways, I’m not sure if I should finish the two doses since I already had a possible reaction.

1 doctor says no, too risky. 1 pharmacist says she doesn’t think it’s related and I’m fine to take it.

Not sure what to do? Can you please help?

I’m nervous about taking the shot and having a bad reaction… but I’m also worried about not taking the shot and something developing down the road.

Gardasil 9 HPV vaccine 3rd dose.

My third dose of Gardasil 9 is scheduled for November 18, but I'm leaving my hometown until March, and the vaccine won’t be available where I'm going. I’m considering getting the vaccine a few days before the scheduled date—about 20 days early. Will that be okay, or should I delay it and wait until I can return to my hometown?

Second dose of Qdenga

Hello,

I have previously been infected with Dengue fever, and as I was planning a trip to Africa, I decided to get the Qdenga vaccine for added peace of mind. Due to the timing of my travel, I was only able to receive the first dose (which, based on my research, already offers a significant level of immunity).

My question is about the second dose. Should I take it three months after the first one (which would be after I return from Africa), or is it better to wait until my next trip and get it shortly before then?

For context, I live in a country where Dengue is not present.

Thanks in advance! :)

Flu shot and Meningitis B vaccination in the same day.

I got those yesterday and I was just feeling the normal soreness. But this morning I woke up and I feel like shit. I normally don't have much of a response to the flu vaccine, so is it possible that it being paired with Men B is why I'm feeling not great? Or should it not matter?

What to do if you can't determine if, when, and how many Hep B shots you have received?

I am 25 years old. I am pretty sure that I received a single Hep B shot when I was 16 years old. I am unsure if I received one when I was a baby. My primary care doctor wasn't much help in finding specific information of previous Hep B shots - perhaps because their records got lost at some point or because I didn't get any other shots. How should I go about receiving more Hep B shots to ensure I am fully vaccinated without getting more than I need if that is indeed a problem?

What would happen if you get a shot for something again soon after?

Say you got a tetanus shot last month, and say you could measure the soreness/achiness to got soon after.

Then you got the same vaccine today. Would it be the same, less, or more achey/sore?

Verity - WHO Declares Egypt 'Malaria-Free'

Verity - WHO Declares Egypt 'Malaria-Free'

The Facts

  • The World Health Organization (WHO) declared Egypt "malaria-free" Sunday, stating that the achievement marks the end of a "nearly 100-year effort by the Egyptian government and people."[1]
  • Egypt is now one of 44 countries and one territory around the world to have reached this milestone — the third in the WHO Eastern Mediterranean Region, and the first since 2010.[1][2]
  • The WHO Director-General grants a malaria-free certification based on technical recommendations when a country proves, beyond a reasonable doubt, that no local malaria transmission has happened for at least three years and demonstrates its capacity to prevent the re-establishment of the transmission.[1][3]
  • Egypt began its path to eradicating the disease as far back as ancient times by limiting mosquito-attracting crops near homes in 1923, with surges reported during World War II, and the building of the Aswan Dam in the 1960s.[1][3][4]
  • Egypt provides free malaria diagnosis and treatment to its population, with health professionals trained to detect cases of the mosquito-borne disease — including at borders. Malaria vaccines are now available, but monitoring and avoiding mosquito bites remain the most effective forms of prevention.[1][5]
  • There were 249M recorded malaria cases around the world in 2022, and an estimated 600K people die from malaria every year — the vast majority of them children in sub-Saharan Africa.[3][6]

The Spin

Narrative A

The world is on a positive path toward eradicating malaria — from billions of cases prevented to millions of lives saved. While there's still more work for governments to accomplish, including preventive strategies like vaccines, mosquito sprays, and bed nets, as well as other treatments, we are for the first time in a strong position to end rather than merely control this disease.

Narrative B

The fight against malaria is far from over. Cases have stagnated since 2015 and are rising in parts of Africa as mosquitoes develop resistance to nets and sprays. Low-income countries lack resources for prevention, while vaccines face distribution challenges. Without sustained global commitment and ever-evolving tools, even our modest gains could be lost.

Should I get tetanus booster even though I got it May, 2021?

Last night I cut myself on a nail sticking out of my basement carpet, it wasn’t a puncture wound but it wasn’t a scratch either, took a tiny flap of skin out of my foot. I got my tetanus booster in May 2021 when I got stabbed with a fishing hook. Is it a good idea to get another one now, or am I good since it’s been less than 4 years since my last booster?

New type of Bandaid

So I went to Rite-Aid (in USA) and they had a circle foam disk with a hole in the center covered with a film. It was about the size of a nickel and rite-aid brand. They administered the shot through the hole and left the disk on as a bandaid. I’ve tried looking this up but I’m not sure what it’s called? it seems very new and was so nice and peeled off like nothing. I wanted to ask if anyone else had come across it.

arm pain - can it get better and then worse at the 2 day mark?

Got the covid vaccine a bit over 2.5 days ago. The first 2 days my arm pain was mild/manageable but starting around the 2.5 day mark, my arm pain shot up to like a 8 out of 10. I had to take 1000mg Tylenol to cope. Has anyone else been through something like this? Why would my arm feel better and then feel worse?

Am I at risk?

I recently had a bilateral pulmonary embolism with a history of deep vein thrombosis. I am a 37M. Should I get the pneumococcal vaccine? My PCP, who nearly twice killed me from the DVTs, says I don't need one. Should I get the vaccine either way? Do I even qualify?

Will a vaccinated friend coming from Africa be contagious?

Hi,

I know very little about vaccines so I thought I'd ask here since I didn't find anything online. A friend of mine is coming back from Africa and has had a lot of vaccines. Im worried about seeing him when he comes back, because I have 0 vaccines against African diseases. I don't think and he doesn't think he has a disease, but there is a chance he might just not feel it due to the immunity. Will he still be contagious to me if he does end up having a disease? If so for how long?

Covid and flu vaccine spacing

I’m seeing very mixed advice on this and would love expert data. I got flu shot 1 week ago and planned to get COVID vaccine today but I’m reading if you get two vaccines within 2 weeks efficacy is reduced - that you need to wait 2 weeks minimum and ideally 4. Is this true? Is there data on efficacy of getting vaccines within a week of each other, 2 weeks, 3 weeks, 4 weeks? I’d like protection sooner but not at risk of ruining immune response.

Where to get CAPVAXIVE (PCV21)?

Hi! Anyone know which pharmacy I could get CAPVAXIVE (PCV21) at? I tried using their vaccine finder but it doesn't specify which vaccine the pharmacy will use (ie they might have multiple in stock). Any thoughts? In NYC.

Hep B

Hi I just got my second dose of Hep B today (out of 3). It was 1 ml of Engerix-B. I think the person who administered the shot thought I was getting the third dose instead of second even though I told them. As a result I’m wondering if there’s any difference between the 2nd and 3rd vaccine shot itself? Is there nothing to worry about? Thanks you for the help.

Did I get Tdap too early?

I got the Tdap at 6weeks pregnant to go visit a friend's new baby. I knew it was safe during pregnancy, but later learned that it's recommended to wait until the thirst trimester so that the baby gets the most immunity. Having taken it at 6 weeks, will the baby get much of the immunity at all from the shot? There's no going back but just curious!

Can I get a Covid booster less than a year since my last?

Last year I got both my flu and Covid shot a couple days before Christmas. I would like to get it earlier this year but I’m not sure if it’s a concern to get a booster 10 months after my last? Sorry if this a stupid question I’m struggling to find any info about this.
