I am an international student got direct entry in college of engineering in University of Washington seattle and UW Madison and want to do chemical engineering as major.
Which should i go with in terms of
1)college life
2)academics
3)opportunities
4)Overall reputation
5)Campus Safety and facilities
I have heard lot for uwmadison in chemical engineering but have no idea for UW seattle
UW seattle is ranked higher in overall QS rankings but UW Madison is ahead in chemical engineering subject rank.
Hello you all!
I'm going to start my MS in CEE in Fall this year. I am interested in applying to Nordheim Court because it seems like the best on campus option considering cost/quality. How should I look for roommates? Do you have other recommendations regarding housing options?
Thank you in advance!
The Center of Neuroscience, Neuroendocrinology & Clinical Translation (CoNNeCT Lab), located within the Department of Psychology at the University of Washington, invites you to participate in a paid study ($80-$100) focused on the role of oxytocin in social learning.
This unique research opportunity offers a one-time session involving intranasal oxytocin administration, fMRI scans, and mild electric shocks. Participants will also receive a clinical evaluation and a complimentary image of their brain, all at no cost!

Title. I applied to the Art History MA Thesis program back in January. They told me the latest I would hear back would be March 15th. Still haven't gotten any emails and my portal still says a decision is pending. Anyone else experiencing something like this or have any advice? I have emailed the department recently but haven't heard back. Thanks.
Hi all!! I got accepted to the MSW day program at UW for Autumn 2024 and was wondering if there’s anyone in the program and can share their experience!
I’ve been seeing some redditers’ comments saying that they feel like the program has been kinda disorganized and messy for these past few years. So i was wondering if that’s the case, what kind of messy is going on? Is it the classes? The field placements? Or others?
Appreciate any thoughts and comments:)
Hi fellow grad students,
We are a lab in the Department of Speech and Hearing Sciences at UW and we're looking for adults (ages 18+) to participate in some research studies. ESPECIALLY men aged 30+ right now!
In general, our lab recruits adults who stutter and adults who do NOT stutter for a variety of experiments in which you'll be compensated $20/hr. We can reimburse for street parking and we will provide you with a free hearing screening as part of the experiment.
Most of our studies involve sitting in front of a microphone and reading words or sentences off a screen. Some studies involve measuring your brain function while you wear an electrode cap (just like a swim cap). We have various safety protocols in place to minimize the spread of COVID-19.
If you are interested, or have any questions at all, please email us at maxlab@uw.edu!
Thank you!
Applying to the MS HCDE program, a recommender accidentally submitted his letter as if I was applying to the MHCID program.
Can I exclude his letter and then add him again so he can resubmit?
Anybody doing any Dawg Daze activities? Anything for graduate students? Thought about doing something but everything seems to be for freshmen
Hello all ! Looking for other grad students to socialize with I just moved here from out of state for my MSW and need to meet nice/cool people so the big sad doesn’t take over
I am not sure I understand what MFTE is. It says that to be eligible I need to have an income of or below a certain amount. However, I am an international masters student and my parents pay for me such as for tuition, housing, etc. So am I eligible? or will they be checking my parents income as they are the ones who would pay for my rent?
Got accepted for the Fall 23 MSDS cohort (woohoo) and am looking for potential friends/housemates/roommates etc.
I’m an international student so I’m kind of overwhelmed with the amount of documentation I have to do, not to mention the nervousness of doing data sci formally and just want to have other people going through the same to talk to!!
I recently got accepted into my masters in Communication in Digital Media (CDM) and I want to go however there’s a lot of fear with everything going on. I’m rethinking taking the program since I would have to relocate half way across the country and the job market is trash right now. Not to mention gotta find an apartment.
As much as I’ve always wanted to come to Seattle, things aren’t seeming great right now with chances of landing opportunities outside of the program right now.
Anybody have any tips or thoughts?
I've been put on the waitlist for MSIM ECA Residential. Anyone else? Any idea what's the likelihood of acceptance?
Did anyone who applied to the ECA MSIM UW program hear back on 3/10 as stated on their website? For ECA, Round 2, Residential.
Has anyone that applied in time to be considered for the 1st round received decision notice yet?
Hey! I recently got into UW's MSIM program. I was wondering if anyone here is also going to the same program this fall. Would love to connect and discuss about courses, housing and other stuff.
Hi, incoming UW MHCDE student here, starting this fall! :) I was wondering what the process was like to find roommates in the same program, and what platforms you used to find people?
Any MSIS students out there?
I'm about to graduate from my local community college(OC) here in the next few months, and will be starting the MSIS program in June. However, I'm trying to get an early start of sending my transcripts to Fosters/The MSIS program, but I'm not sure where to send them too(the transcripts).
Anyone know what's the address for the MSIS program and sending transcripts?
I applied for the MSW EDP program on 1/4/22 (priority deadline) and am anxiously waiting to hear back. Any MSW applicants here receive word of admission yet?
Hey y'all,
I just enrolled at UW's MLIS program for this fall, 2022 (woohoo!). I have undergraduate research and tutoring experience exclusively in history (primarily Latin American). Do I have any chance of getting an assistantship in the History Department? I'm confident I could provide strong references/recommenders. Am I even eligible as an iSchool student?
Thanks!
My major is communication arts and I just recently got accepted to the MA program in cinema and film studies.
Where are some good apartments near the campus? Is it good to live around the downtown area and then commute to school every day?
Hi! I'm considering moving to Seattle since I've been accepted into a Ph.D. program at the University of Washington. Of course, I plan to visit the city myself since I have never been, however, I'm getting a lot of polarizing opinions about the city. I currently live in Manhattan NYC and have lived here for 6 years. I attended university in NYC and currently work in the city. Fun facts: I'm 25 y/o, a black person, single and I'll be studying within the stem field. I'm mostly interested in the social dynamics of the city; I keep hearing about the "Seattle Freeze" and considering I don't know anyone and would be building up a friend group from scratch, that's a big concern. Although, I think the graduate component will help. I have a good amount of confidence in my academic program, however, I'm more worried about the social dynamics since that appears to be a point of contention for many transplants. Grad school in my case is a 4-6 year commitment and I want to ensure I make an informed decision before uprooting. Can people share what the young mid-twenties people are like here? What do people tend to do for fun? What's the dating scene like for straight women? What would be a better neighborhood to live in proximity to the university? Any you're willing to share at this point would be appreciated
Question for those that transferred from a community college to UW-
I'm graduating from Olympic College this spring quarter and heading into the MSIS program starting the summer quarter. However, I realized that:
OC's quarter ends on June 17th, and the MSIS program begins on June 20th....and I realized that I wouldn't be able to provide the proper transcripts until at least halfway through that quarter. How understanding is UW when it comes to this kind of situation, with a fast turnaround like this? Like everything else is fairly squared away (I'm setting up my student profile, they have my unofficial transcripts, and I just need to submit the vaccine paperwork, which is whatever. I'm vaxx'd.) How should I ask the program people about this? Would they be understanding about it?
Also, being a vet I'd be able to work with their VA program, would that also help?
Hello - does anyone know where I can get that list from? The answers I get from the registrar are not helpful.
Thanks!
What's up!!
I recently got into the MSIS program and was wondering if anyone here is also in the program(June 2022) I'd love to connect!

Hi, r/UWgrad,
I'm A.J., the Graduate and Professional Student Senate (GPSS) Vice President of Finance. We have various funding sources for student activities beyond the classroom. Because this is an allocation of student fees, there are forms and restrictions, but I want to help students to have as much input into their own experiences as possible.
https://depts.washington.edu/gpss/funding/
I'm happy to answer questions! It's a lot of information, and there are plenty of unique situations. I want students to use these opportunities. The amounts set aside have been based on previous years' activity, so if more students use these funds, we can dedicate a larger portion of our budget to funding student activity.
Feel free to email me at gpssvpfb@uw.edu or DM me on Reddit for more information.
There is an easy bus line from my apt in eastlake to the west side of campus - is taking the city bus home at 10pm when night classes get out safe?
