Winter hiking in Utah

I want to spend some weekends traveling and hiking in the state, and obviously, I know I'm going to have to head south.

Does anyone have good day hikes that I can tackle while it's snowy up north?

Bonus if fishing can be involved.

Multi-day backpacking ideas?

Hello, I'm planning to head to Utah for some hiking next spring. I've never been before and all the options are making me dizzy! Does anyone have recommendations for some of the best multi-day backpacks or thru-hikes of 5+ days?

Proposal trails

I’m looking for ideas on where I could propose. Our first date was a canyon drive up to park city and back down through Provo. I want to do something around that. There’s a chance I’d be doing this in the winter so idk if that makes this impossible. Does anyone know of a good trail with a good lookout over Jordanelle? Preferably not too difficult or long. Thank you in advance

Best (fee-free?) hikes, camping spots, slot canyons, pictographs, hotsprings etc - driving from CO to the PNW

I'm about to relocate from central Colorado up to Oregon for the winter, and hoping to fit in a 10-day/2-week trip in Utah on the way. I am definitely open to getting a Parks Pass and visiting Zion, Bryce etc. But would also love to know of any non-paid, off the beaten track spots that are equally amazing?

I've been recommended Ding & Dang slot canyons and Spooky Slot Canyon, and would also love some other hikes (or short backpacking trips), hot springs, interesting cultural spots, anything else you'd suggest! I have a vehicle I can sleep in and a full kitchen setup so I'm very flexible. No high clearance/4WD though so need to avoid super rough roads.

Thank you very much!

Naked man incident at Granite flats campground this morning

My dog and I were walking some trails in the granite flats campground this morning and had an odd experience and I am wondering if anyone else ran into this person. The campground closed for the season about a week ago so there weren't a lot of people around. While walking through the group site campground a guy was running up behind us as we were approaching a narrow dirt path (one person wide). As I could hear them running I stepped aside so they could pass and I noticed the guy was wearing a motorcycle helmetvas he was jogging. As he passed me, he parted my arm twice in a friendly but unusual gesture. As we were heading back from our walk maybe 30 minutes later, I found a pile of clothes and shoes off of a separate trail. As we neared the group campsite as we were leaving, I saw a naked man exit out of the back of what should have been a closed and locked restroom. I took a circuitous route to avoid him and I know he knew we were in the field because my dog was barking and chasing a squirrel but I was relieved that he also seemed like he intended to avoid us. But, as we were walking towards the road he r came running towards me and was saying something that I couldnt understand (maybe "clothes"?) and seemed to be trying to grab the poop bag out of my hand. He then ran off. I reported the incident to the employee at the fee booth at the entrance of the canyon.

Was there anyone else who had a run in with this guy?

Red Caves/Sand Wash access?

Seeking info on the access to upper or lower red caves/Sand Wash outside Zion. I saw a report that the private land access had been closed? Anyone done it recently? And if I could only do one, is upper or lower better for photography?

Thanks!

Narrows top down - waders in oct?

Doing the narrows top down in a few days, is it essential to have waders/wetsuit at this time of year or can I go without?

When does Pando lose its leaves?

I've been touring the states and have hit redwoods and sequoia and was planning on visiting Pando to tick off the big tree trifecta. I've got it penciled in for October 23rd and I'm now realising it may have lost its foliage at that point. Will Pando have any leaves by then, and how would I know?

Looking to do a backpacking trip

Hello, I am currently looking to plan around a 6 day backpacking trip somewhere in Utah. I am preferably looking for an area close to salt lake city. I am planning on doing it at the start of November. Wondering of anyone can give me some recommendations on a good trip that they have done or heard about?

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated! Or of anyone knows another subreddit that I can ask that would be great!

Also I am a very experienced backpacker/mountaineer so any recommendations regardless of difficulty are great!

Thank you so much

Coyote Gulch - sneaker rope

Hi - has anyone been out to Coyote Gulch recently and can confirm whether there's still a fixed rope for the sneaker route descent?

Also can anyone tell me at what point you lose reception on HITR road?

Thanks!

Put in spot - Green River

Hi there, we're staying at the Green River State Park campgrounds next weekend and I'd like to find a place upriver from there to put in so we can do a little float back to our campsite.

Looking for chill flat water and we don't need a terribly long route. We have a 6-year-old, even just a few miles would be a blast for them.

I'm thinking about putting in at Swaseys Beach. Can anyone tell me what it's like between there and the Green River State Park campground?

Thanks in advance!

Has anyone been up FR 107 off the Mirror Lake Highway? If so, is 4WD required?

Druid Arch and Chesler Park

Hey y'all, I'm planning on heading down to Canyonlands in a few weeks to do a loop of druid arch and chesler park. I am seeing info on packing in water, but I'm not finding much of anything on potential water source information in that area. Does anyone know if I will be able to refill somewhere? Or do I need to bring enough water for the whole thing?

Dispersed camping near Capitol Reef

I take my oldest two sons camping once a year, just us, while my wife graciously stays home with my youngest special needs son(we do take him camping all the other times). We love finding an awesome and dispersed camping spot. We camp with 24ft trailer. Any recommendations? We will be going mid October.

Looking for a spot to camp in the Wasatch mtns?

Planning a small overnighter camping trip in the wasatch mountains with some friends, scheduled for a couple weeks so I’d like to choose a spot where it won’t be too cold in early October. 30-60 min drive from Highland UT would be optimal. What are some good remote locations? We can backpack in if necessary.

Hoping to catch Pando at its peak- this weekend, or next?

Wondering if anyone has been to pando recently and can speak on this. We can either go this weekend, or next. Don't want to wait until next weekend if the leaves are already peaking now. Thanks!

Most southern Aspens?

Hey guys, I’m looking to camp with my siblings in a few weeks that we just found out will be during a cold spell. I would love to potentially camp further south where we could still see the incredible aspen october colors. Anyone have suggestions for a warmer* campsite around Oct 10? Appreciate it- we won’t leave any litter and won’t post anything. Doesn’t have to be an official campsite. Thank you!

Visiting Utah to hike

My girlfriend, her 24 year old daughter, her 4 year old grandson and I are coming to Utah to go hiking the middle of next month. We're not sure where in Utah we will end up but can you guys suggest some easy trails that are amazing?
