Any jazz clubs? Nice libraries? Calm nooks to relax in..? Random parks? Museums? What am I missing?
Hey everyone. I just moved into a co-op around w 100th on Friday. There's only 4 units and the rules are super strict about things like recycling and trash, which I was warned about before moving in, which is cool, I'm just one dude.
Unfortunately I'm the only person here under 70 and the co-op prez is at her vacation home, so nobody has been able to give me the key to the gate for the trash and recylcing area and what the rules even are, and now I have a mountain of moving boxes that almost touches my ceiling and I'd like to get rid of it ASAP.
Any recs for a place I can take it? Like a big dumpster?
I need to bring 7-Layer dip for an event at 1:30, and I am feeling extremely lazy. Is there a place near us to get it at a decent quantity for 12 people and in serveable packaging?
A friend saw a male accidentally dropping a set of keys while running for the bus stop on 96th and Central Park west. She shouted but the person didn’t hear and left on the bus. This happened about 10 days ago and she has not been able to find the owner. Posting here in case you or anybody you know lost their keys recently. Please dm me with a description if you think they’re yours.
And an asshole, who stopped in the middle of the sidewalk AND suddenly proceeded to elbow me as I did my best to avoid him but gently brushed his protruded elbow as I passed and he exclaimed “tAhT HuuRt!” … to which I responded : [scoff] “fuuuckk you” as I passed giving a middle finger..
…to that old man: Fuck you. And your dumbass family.
I am guessing they will close off the east central park route due to the marathon but can we still access the west side of the park above 72nd street? Or do they usually use that space as well for something else during the marathon?
Looking to buy an apartment (2bd / 1.5+ br) here in the UWS and every now and then I see apartments for a good price in need of a full gut renovation. I know that each case is different but any estimated range of total cost? Also what companies / contractors have ppl used in the past?
Just wondering how the line is at AMNH…
Hi neighbors - does anyone have a recommendation for a local handyman? We’re looking for someone to hang some art and a large mirror, and to mount a TV. When the delivery guys delivered the mirror today they also took a chunk out of the wall, so I guess we’re looking for someone who can fix that too.
Why would they do work on the 1 and C trains so there are no locals going uptown on Marathon weekend? Why would you ever stop the uptown trains on both lines on the same weekend? Just stagger them.
Just wondering about those highway sound barriers that are very common on Europe, were they ever considered for the elevated portion of the west side highway? I can see cost being an issue or maybe some complaints about views being blocked but surely less noise pollution would benefit us more.
Not sure, what it is, kinda sounds like fireworks? Sounds like it coming from the north?
Anyone hearing these loud bangs???
Not looking for anything lavish. Just marigolds to celebrate día de los muertos
Hello,
I am a dude and keep relatively short 2c/3a hair. I'm looking for recs of places to get a haircut. I looked at some older posts and saw most people suggested vacating the neighborhood when it comes to getting a cut: but so then, where do yall go? I'm willing to travel ~30 min by public transit.
Also, I'm making this post because I'd like to ask specifically for places that are less female-oriented and/or cheaper. I don't necessarily have an issue with going to a place that is 90% women, but:
At the same time, I appreciate that an even $65 haircut is probably too good to be true here.
I already have a shortlist of Ouidad, Filament, and Bloom Beauty Lounge as safe bets, but they all seem a bit overkill for what I'd need. After all, as my dad taught me, there's no better barber than the two weeks following a haircut. Cutting my hair isn't rocket science, but I do need someone who won't just like, slam the auto-crew cut button and isn't a complete stranger to non-Protestant hair.
TYIA!
edit: thank you all very much for the abundant replies, I appreciate it.
Anyone know where you can cut across Central Park to get over to the top of Cat Hill / East Drive around the met? Not sure what entrances to the park are open. Any other locals have preferred spots to see family racing?
A guy was just shot in the leg on 71st near the McDonalds. I heard either 3 or 4 shots. Be careful out there, everyone!
Has anyone heard this guy the last couple of weeks? Clearly drunk, but a few times now, at like 3AM, has been screaming and crying as loud as he can for over an hour each time.
The first time there was some sort of fight between him and others because for half an hour he was screaming “Give me my phone back!!!!”
Last night it was that he hated someone apparently.
RIP getting any sleep.
They've ripped some of the old mosaics from the walls but not much else. Anyone know anything?
Curious if folks have found a good place to sell used furniture. I used to use FB marketplace all the time but lately it seems like nothing moves there. Any UWS-specific alternatives?
Anyone know what they’re building with the really consistent load of semi trucks headed south on Columbus? Crates say Modlogiq which appears to be some sort of modular construction- making me think it’s just for a short term event. Looks like too much stuff to just be for the Marathon
Edit: Vastly underrated how big of a deal the marathon was
For the last three days, in the evening, a convoy of huge trucks surrounded by oversized load cars driving erratically have been barreling down Columbus beeping and engine breaking. It’s sooooooo loud and I don’t understand why it would happen 3 days in a row…
Anyone have an idea what that is? Is it marathon related?
The trucks are lit up like billboards, but they seemed covered in white, towing white boxes. What are they?
Is there any plan to open a new spot across the street (north) from McDonalds? For the past 3 years it’s just been a place for teens to roll dice and smoke weed, homeless people to openly shoot up and for people to pee. It’s really such a trashy corner. The scaffolding has been there for years and no work is being done. People with strollers are squeezing through throngs of teens literally rolling dice and gambling on the sidewalk while smoking weed. Does anyone know what the plan is there?
Hi! I haven’t ever had this issue before so I haven’t even thought about it, but I’m looking for a good cobbler on the UWS to help repair my brand new pair of red leather flats. The tip of the shoes slightly ripped/got damaged and I really want to make sure they are repaired properly. Any suggestions would be great! Thanks in advance :)
I recently moved to the area and would love to hear people's favorite coffee shops in the neighborhood and why. I love supporting independent coffee shops and find that it's a great place to meet people.
I am trying to be more eco-friendly about my drinking. I was wondering if drinking local as opposed to imported makes much of a difference? Either way, curious about your favorites and favorite wine stores.
I personally enjoy Reisling, Pinot noir, Merlot, red blends. Not a fan of rosé or ice, or port wines. I would like to spend $10-$20 ideally. I am a lightweight.
