I wanted to revisit this game after last playing it for over 5-6 years ago. However, I don't want to just download an archived working build, and play it. I wanted to try playing it under Unreal Engine 5 after I saw someone making a tutorial on how to upgrade the game, so that means I need the source code in order to do that.
I do have access to the Epic Games GitHub organization, where I can see the repo for the entire game's source code. I actually didn't know about the game being (sort of) open-source until now, which is great IMO!
But you know what's NOT great? Having to download stuff from now-defunct download server.
I followed the tutorial, already having Visual Studio 2015 pour random crap (SQL stuff, etc.) that I don't have a use for (possibly) to my PC, and it says that I need to run Setup.bat
from the source files. Sounds simple, but then...
Failed to download 'http://cdn.unrealengine.com/dependencies/2599938-41ebb606187b477088f4a9fd8874c9ee/00b4cc3048db442b9e1ac097e8f5c9e436dab9c3': The remote server returned an error: (403) Forbidden. (WebException)
So I don't think I can proceed before running Setup.bat
to download additional stuff for the project, and the server is either gone or made private (it says Forbidden, so I assume it's privated?). I can't find any more source code that already had those files in.
So if anyone happens to have a link to the full source with the files, or some way to make this working. That would be nice. Thanks.
Edit: I forgot to clearly mention that I'm talking about UT4, not the earlier versions.
Clan DW's Monster Evolution Server was recently updated for the 13th Anniversary with new & updated maps, abilities, and balance changes. Check out the latest changelist here!
For those not familiar, Monster Evo is an Assault-based RPG game type in Unreal Tournament 2004. You and your teammates will carry out various tasks for missions against the countless monsters that stand against you. Victory is achieved if you're able to complete all objectives.
In order to succeed, you can choose one of 5 classes with unique attributes, abilities, weapons & vehicles that you can use to help allies and defeat opponents. As you play you will gain XP and level up, allowing you more abilities and the opportunity to play more challenging missions.
Server IP: 74.91.119.108:7777

I just recently reinstalled the UT games on Steam, discovered the UT4 Alpha thingy, ended up uninstalling UT3 but I think I'm gonna stick with UT99/UT2K4/UT4. I'm not good at UT - I'm not even good at aiming in general.
I'm mostly okay with just playing Deathmatch against some bots, but I have a friend that if I can, I would like to play with/against him as well. Idk if he has any of the UT games. I'm probably not interested in making new maps or going crazy with mods/gamemodes/whatever.
I just wanna know where I should go/what I should do in-game, on Reddit, on Discord, or wherever to be able to play with my friend and/or maybe take better advantage of modern hardware and 1440p widescreen monitors.
Hello ut community greetings..! It is to ask you a huge favor if you know or have a safe place without viruses or strange things from which to download UT2004 in full, since it is my lifelong game and I stopped playing it 8 years ago for personal reasons but now I want to go back to it. play is no longer in any virtual store on the Internet, I thank you very much for your help..!
Hi everyone,
I’m currently updating and re-skinning some of our server’s favorite maps in Unreal Tournament 2004, and I have a question about handling textures in UnrealEd v3. Since UT2004 doesn’t support PBR textures directly, I’m looking for recommendations or any workflows for converting PBR textures into a format compatible with UT2004.
UnrealEd v3 for UT2004 can handle the following texture layers:
I've tried manually flattening textures to approximate the needed layers, but it’s a tedious process that doesn’t always yield the best results. Ideally, I’m looking for a tool that:
I made a table to match UT2004-compatible layers with the closest PBR layers, which has been helpful as a workaround but isn’t perfect. Most tools I’ve found prioritize PBR workflows and painting but lack an easy “flatten to TGA” export that combines all relevant layers.
If anyone has suggestions for software or plugins that can simplify this process, I’d really appreciate it. Thanks for any insights you can share!

Replaying single player UT2004 and just thought that I want to have the best team, but there are too much fighters to choose from.
Who are the best ones to pick? Is there a list of agents I always want on my team, so AI could destroye opponents easily?
Anybody know exactly which UT3 mod this is?
I really want to replay it since I used to play it all the time as a kid.
Here is some brief gameplay of it (0:37 mark)
Hey, I started Facebook group lately dedicated to community creations for various 90s and early 2000s FPS games, mods, TCs, customs maps, retro fps content etc, (including newer boomber shooters as well), please feel free to pay a visit and contribute. Few months ago i started to sweep youtube for very best custom community FPS related creations, im making a list of maps and mods for possible future gameplays, feel free to join if you would like to find out all of those high quality FPS mods and maps in once place. (FB Group name is identical to headline of this post)
One tap dodge has been revolutionary for me, in UT99 and UT3, it completely changes the game in a way that makes it 100% better. I'd really like to get this mutator for UT2004 and try that game again.
[EDITED - thanks for informing me that the message was originally posted to the Discord server of OldUnreal]
Hello,
Yesterday a message was pasted on a Facebook group devoted to FPS games. The message guides people towards approved ISO images for Unreal / UT99 on archive.org and it starts with the information that it is being posted "with Epic's permission". The message was originally posted to the Discord server of OldUnreal. You can join the server using this link: https://discord.gg/thURucxzs6. The message, along with direct links to ISO images is in the "announcements" channel.
I find it very reassuring that Epic has nothing against ISO images being available on archive.org. Sure, it's not much, but a lot more than I would expect from them, given how they treated the series in the last years (I would expect them to hit the archive with "cease and desist" or something).
Just downloaded ut2k4 with community patch, tried to join an online game and it comes up as IP banned? Multiple servers all brought up the same?
Can anyone advise how I get back online?
Thanks
Hi can anyone help me? I used to play this game on the original Xbox about 20 years ago, it’s easily my favorite Unreal championship game.
Is there a way to play this on PC? I don’t have an Original Xbox , only an Xbox 360.
Thanks!
Hello fellow UT-lovers, as the title suggests, I am wondering how you guys play UT99?
Do you play on bare metal? If so, which OS is the one that is most compatible (for the lack of a better term)? Or do you run it inside of a virtual machine? Some years ago I got rid of my old computers and now I regret it.
Currently, I am using an old laptop with Windows 7 and I was just looking for ways to improve my setup. On a similar note, I still have some if the muscle memory from back in the day. Unreal, isn’t it 😬
Cheers, Scratchmonkey
Oh my... it's good to be back! It's been awhile since I played UT. I just played combogib and I am so noob at it. I played instagib and zark sniper back in the clanbase days, I have no idea when that was.
But I feel so calm now....
We tried to install Zerotier and connected to eachother but it didn't work. My server was not listed in "LAN" list for them. They tried to connect with IP but also didn't work. We tried Hamachi after that, it also didn't work.
I am not a techy person so please explain like i am five.
I installed UT2004, the update, and the UCMP, but I don't have the SPMA, Cicada, or Paladin. I'm trying to figure out what went wrong, and seeing if anyone else had this issue or knows a fix.
Edit, don't know why this title was 2003 as it's 2004. And the fix was found from the log file Install location/UT2004/System/UT2004.log. I was missing sound files that caused the needed files to fail.
That lore question always bothered me: how exactly fighters respawn? How do they keep their memories, if they are cloned and every time it's not the same person? If they are cloned, why some characters still retain injuries and why it took Malcolm one year to return to games?
I used to play for NBK, and my handle was Switchblade (Switchyb). We had two kids in our team they were 11 at the time but absolutely lethal (Nemesis and Homocide). The others that I can recall right now as I type this: Damien, Brando, Khyron
I participated in various tournaments against Greenbacks, Chosen1s, Clan 187 amongst others. Was wondering if any of you are in here
Maaaaan Ive been fighting with my server all day trying to get map vote to work. Im crashin out. Someone please help me
Im use MVE2h
I'm posting this here, it could potentially be about Quake or similar era games but I think Unreal Tournament epitomised the point I want to make as it's the ultimate game of its kind.
Here's my problem with CoD. Overwatch. Battefield. Pretty much every modern shooter: Nobody enters the game on an even footing.
Classes. Characters. Weapons that unlock as you gain levels in the game. All this nonsense has removed what made UT and early shooters amazing: Every single person in the game has the exact same set of tools at their disposal and how they are able to utilize them is what determines if they win or lose.
There's no rock-paper-scissors based class system where "I need to play [X] class to counter that guy playing [Y]" or "I play character [Z] because only they have these abilities". Every single person in the game has the same weapons. Can use the same strategies and is never disadvantaged (beyond a poorer spawn point relative to a good weapon-poor map design).
Worst of all is a level system where a player 20 levels above you has weapons you just can't use. It breaks the enjoyment of the game entirely for me.
Call me old. I am old. But class and character based shooters take so much away from the FPS genre, they don't add to it in any way. And. In game it always feels artificial. "Ok I'm an 'Engineer'. But why can't I pick up that rocket launcher?"
Background in 4 steps for people outside of vr news:
Oculus quest is big now for wireless VR with less-motion-sickness Quest 3. With Metro game, Walking Dead, Asgard Wrath 2 and other TRULY GOOD GAMES, it is kinda serious now.
Resident Evil 4 VR is a blast and great financial success (old game just converted to VR, 1:1).
Multiplayer shooters in VR are massive now (see: Pavlov Shack, Gun Raiders, Contractors, Zero Caliber, Population One and lotsa others, also free ones)
UT99, just like RE4, is old with simple graphics, perfect for mobile VR GPU. Gameplay is perfect for it too.
So imagine this:
Of course, development time and costs exist - it's not a "one-weekend-job", but it's doable for a small studio like EPIC GAMES.
Being alowed to blast Flak Cannon BY MYSELF, or sniper-vibing first-hand on Facing Worlds would be a life changing experience and you can't change my mind.
