Why go with an unlocked phone?

So i have an old samsung J2, and i need to get some old contacts from the phone and it would be nice to get my old photos recovered from the device too. but, the only catch is that my mom has given that phone to my niece to play with as a toy since im not using it anymore and she has broken the screen of it. It still turns on, I can say this because it makes the samsung turn on melody when i press the power button. I connected the phone to my pc with USB and it shows the device but when i open it,it is blank probably because it is password protected. I accessed the samsung smart thingsfind , and it shows J2 but since it is not connected to a mobile network, it is not showing any details. can someone advise on how to recover my data?
I'm looking to buy a new phone on eBay I am always bought unlocked phones because I use cricket and their selection is limited. However I'm trying to buy the new Motorola razr and there is like over $100 difference in locked and unlocked. Is it better to buy a phone that is locked and then just pay to have it unlocked? I found a website that will unlock phones for $28 but I don't want to waste my money buying a locked phone if it's impossible to unlock it? Does anybody have any information on this?
I currently have a note 20 ultra 5g where the screen is flickering and cracked, with att currently. i plan on trading it into samsung for a better phone in the next month. In the meantime i plan on getting a nord oneplus unlocked from walmart. I can put my 5g simcard into that phone and ill have service? I also have a family plan in my fathers name, will it do anything to that? or i can just do something as simple as a sim swap and it wont change anything right?
So I bought an old slide phone (LG 265, https://www.lg.com/ca_en/cell-phones/lg-LG265) for next to nothing and I want to unlock it and use it with my current provider (trying to overcome my cellphone addiction....). The problem is, I have no clue how to do this with an old phone. It doesn't even seem to have a sim card slot, so I am doubting if it is possible. Its currently locked to Virgin Mobile.
Is this possible? Can someone point me in the right direciton? Thx :)
i need to carrier unlock a galaxy s20 ultra 5g. i need help
Does anyone have any thoughts or ideas?
The best I’ve come up with is to buy Apple gift cards from target with the red card to get $20 target gift cards for each $100 apple gift card, trade in my current device for trade in value, and get an Apple Card for 3% cash back.
Anyone else with any other thoughts?
I bought an iPhone XS Max and it has an activation lock for Verizon. Is it possible to clean the IMEI to use the phone on Verizon or will I never be able to get passed the Verizon activation lock? I have checked on multiple IMEI checkers and the phone is unlocked. I have popped in a GSM sim and it does work. I am unsure how to accurately determine if the device is activation locked on Verizon only? Is there any free or cheap services I can find to see if the phone will work on Verizon's network or to verify if it works on other networks?
I have a Verizon Samsung Galaxy S9 that has a network lock. I want to use my AT&T prepaid sim in it but can't. I have searched all over trying to find a way to unlock it without paying cause I don't have the extra funds. Is there a way for me to unlock the phone myself? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
I bought an LG G8 on eBay, but it's blocked by Sprint. Is it possible to unlock it?
