A landmark event occurred in the US on Tuesday night when battery storage become for the first time the largest source of supply in the California grid, which delivers electricity to the world’s fifth biggest economy and is one of the world’s biggest grids.
The milestone was noted by a bunch of energy analysts and data geeks on Twitter/X, including by Joe Deely, who noted that the output of battery storage in the evening peak went above 6 gigawatts (GW) for the first time.
I'm a mod over there and (unlike the purely circlejerking and discussion-suppresing r/nuclear) a proper fact-based discussion over nuclear power would be very welcome on r/nuclearpower.
Especially as many (not all!) users of r/nuclearpower have pretty one-sided and ideological views on that topic, so your perspective would be welcome to add some more views and break up circlejerking tendencies.
Just please keep it fact-based. Also it would be really great if you cold provide reliable sources for controversial claims.
Apart from that, please do engage in productive discussions!
