Times have been really hard and I work seasonal. What is the EI reconsideration timeline (got denied EI) Will I be notified before pay or will my payment just show up in my bank? I put my reconsideration letter in dec 15. Thank you so much guys.
So I made a post asking about my situation earlier on r/legaladvice but I'm asking around because I'm freaked out.
Years ago I worked in kitchens as a cook. I've also dealt with severe anxiety for years. Eventually I had a breakdown due to the stress kitchen work caused me so I quick the food industry.for the past couple of years I've been an exterior painter, and a student. Last year I get laid off because it's seasonal work and I got unemployment. The same thing happened this year. Because I was laid off but have a job waiting for me when exterior season comes back I don't have to do the work search thing.
This year after I applied I decided to look around for work just incase I was refused. The only job I could find was at a restaurant. My anxiety had gotten far better so I figured I'd give kitchen work a shot; I was even feeling good about it. During my interview I made it very clear to the restaurants owner that I've had past issues with anxiety and I might not be able to handle the job. He was very understanding and let me work a test shift to decide if the job would fit, so, he hired me on and set up a time for the test shift.
Between being hired and my first shift my unemployment was approved. I didn't file for the week until after I worked the shift so I reported it to unemployment and they subtracted the amount from my weekly benefit.
Well, after the shift my anxiety was way too high and I couldn't do the job. I told the owner and again, he was very understanding. The next day he actually offered me a different position that would keep me out of the kitchen and would be so stressful since he liked me so much; though, there was no guarantee he could find the hours. I actually accepted the offer, and waited if he would get back to me, which he never did.
So, I keep filing for about three weeks. On Friday I get a letter with a quit questionnaire asking why I had quit the job. After doing some research I started panicking because I might have to pay unemployment everything back and there could be a criminal sentence and everything.
I called the owner of the restaurant and he's on my side and willing to testify and talk to unemployment for me to help clear things up, and agrees it's a matter of a medical issue for me. I'm really hoping that's going to help me. I also can have my therapist give evidence about all this because I was actually talking to her about it before I started the job. I can also get my boss at the exterior painting company to vouch for me that I'm a good worker and have a job waiting for me when the season comes back.
To be clear. I am able to work physically and have been in the past just fine. This job in particular was just a very specific bad fit. To my understanding also being offered something else and accepting, but it not working out to no fault of my own is also a big deal.
Am I screwed or is it possible I'll be fine? I'm really, really nervous right now. I don't even know if I care if they stop giving me benefits I just don't have the money to pay them back nor do I want to be prosecuted as a criminal for a stupid mistake.
How do you qualify for regular UI in Maryland?
I am self employed, and not very good at it. It the second time I am asked for money back because I live in red state. I think I will just say I already spent the money, but any advice for arguing to stay solvent as little independent contractor would help. Thank yoy!
I signed up for unemployment, and was asked to send documents for verification, I did. I was denied benefits. but on the same letter it shows the days that was denied are allowed due to me being exempt, because I was out on Medical leave. I left with good cause, and gave employer plenty of notice about me leaving for surgery. does this mean I will or will not get benefits?
Can I file a new claim after all of my benefits are exhausted from the original one?
I'm a Canadian and was wondering if youre on house arrest but are entitled to go to work if you have work or entitled to find work while serving your sentence then would I be entitled to EI since I am willing and ready to work. Or would house arrest disqualify me.
I'm a reporter for Insider (author page here) looking into what people are planning to do once federal unemployment benefits are cut on Sept 6 (for the 24 states that haven't already done it).
Some politicians have said that the current labor shortage will cease to be a problem once unemployment insurance is cut. I'm interested to hear what people are doing to get ahead of the game e.g.
I'd love to hear from you. Respond here or email me at acooban@insider.com
I lost my job in March 2020 due to covid. I was (and currently am) working part-time, but unemployment made up for the rest I was missing. My unemployment stopped in December. I could see that there was a "reserve" that was getting depleted, and I guess I hit zero in December.
So that's the end of it? Does the COVID relief come into play anywhere? I'm in New Jersey. I've tried calling and emailing the state several times but it's all automated. I'd just like these very basic questions answered. MANY thanks in advance for anyone with any knowledge willing to share.
Regarding Mixed Earners:
During the length of this pandemic, EDD did create a separate category for self employed claimants (PUA), but they did NOT create a separate category for mixed earners.
Earners who were primarily self employed, but happened to have some w2 income in their base period.
These mixed earners often got misclassified and were forced into traditional UI claims, even though they likely would have been better served under PUA.
QUESTION for EDD and Redditors:
Will these 1099, self employed, mixed earner claimants be subject to W2 work search requirements, workforce reentry procedures,
that apply to W2 workers?
What do I do when My fraud has been pending since i sumbited mypua claim in ohio?? I have everything in for months now... I've called I've emailed.
My mom might have to go on unemployment soon in Ohio.
I used to be on unemployment insurance myself for a short time, and I've done research online, but I'm still not clear on this one. I filed when I was a single, individual with no dependents (I don't know if "joint" tax filers are different?) So:
If i were to give my mom money every month (or maybe in a lump sum of that matters?) i would imagine that counts as a gift. Some say that doesn't need to be reported as income, but i believe the forms ask you to report "any additional income."
Anyway, let's assume that it needs reported - for the sake of argument- and that it somehow is enough to cancel- out my mom's potential UI earnings so that she won't get anything.
Now, let's suppose also that I pay my dad the money instead, which he then spends on the mortgage and groceries using credit cards and what-not in his name (which is kinda how their household works anyway).
Then, since the gift is to my dad...are there any gray areas about whether that might be considered income for my mom if you're a joint couple?
Or would this be a sure-fire, clear-cut way that my mom indeed can claim she has NO additional income? I don't think my dad's income would matter in any way, right?
To be clear - i know that doing things under the table is common and the IRS probably won't bother with verifying, yada yada. I'm asking strictly about legality, not about whether one could get away with something.
PLEASE HELP PLEASE
I got a message in portal from an adjudicator and they asked me this
-->Please provide proof that your roommate was unable to care for themselves due to their covid-19 diagnosis.<--
Does anyone understand their question? I'm really not sure what proof I could provide besides the positive covid test result that I've already uploaded into my documents which has been seen already. I was suppose to have my response turned in by 1030am today. Please respond if anyone has any advice please!
Has anyone received the no attachment to labor form? When I first applied for PUA I called and explained my situation, how I graduated from nursing school in May 2020 and I was going to go straight to work but then my daughter's school closed and she is intellectually disabled so cannot be left alone which left me unable to begin working so I had her enrolled in online classes, long story short, I have to stay home with her in the mean time till her school re-opens...I had quit working roughly 3 yrs ago so it was before covid happened. I was going to go straight to work once I graduated but then covid happened. So now PUA is having me fill out an attachment to labor form. Do I qualify for PUA? I am so confused because they had told me in the past I did and I've been collecting this entire time?? If I don't qualify then what happens next? Will I have to pay it all back? Has anyone ever experienced this and knows what comes next after uploading that form? Thank you so much and any help would be greatly appreciated!
I was recently denied by UI benefits because Nevada said I had an open claim in Louisiana. I never lived in, worked in or ever applied to this state. It's obviously fraudulent but they denied my claim because it's open. I've filed a fraud alert in Louisiana and tried calling them, but cannot reach a human. I never received any sort of follow-up after filing the alert online.
The Nevada office just keeps telling me they have no idea and to just wait. Well, I have no money coming in to it's hard to sit around and wait! Does anyone know what else I can do? I tried calling my Nevada Assemblywoman, but haven't heard back. Thank you for your help, this is so frustrating and scary because I was depending on these benefits.
My state (ND) sent me a notice that I needed to provide proof that I am not eligible for a regular claim in any other state, but doesn't indicate what that proof might be. I've only worked in North Dakota for the past 7 years.
(GA) hey i applied for unemployment late march , i went on the website and it said i was supposed to get $155 a week i received a letter saying the same . they then locked me out of my account and made me verify my identity. i just got the email to get back into my account . why are they still pending a determination? what other info are they looking for ? and do i still claim weekly until then ? i claimed last week but i’m kinda stuck.
Finally got approved for all our back pua as of yesterday. When can I expect a deposit?
"issue closed level 1 not adversely affected" and all certifications say processed pending payment. Im good to go yes?
Has someone has had experience being affected by Covid, being in PEUC unemployment? I want to know if that would affect the monthly payments or the weekly filling reports. Thanks!
Okay not only have I been since last year in April 2020 ,pending an appeal date, Even after error was confirmed TO BE MADE BY EDD'S END! AND the ONLY way to fix the DISQUALIFICATION was to appeal it. So I DID...SINCE LAST YEAR!! AND STILL PENDING TO BE SCHEDULED APPEAL DATE! ?? IS THIS JUST ME BEING INPATIENT? OR STRAIGHT BULLSHIT! (SORRY) SMH..I DONT UNDERSTAND HOW ITS BEEN THIS LONG! I KNOW SOMEONE WHO APPEALED THEIR MATTERS 2CE AND HAS HER CLAIM ON TRACK ..HER CLAIM FOR APPEAL WAS SET AT DIFFERENT LOCATION. (COMPTON,IN LOS ANGELES) MINES IN PASADENA....LOL. WOW , GO FIGURE
Hi guys, so I am a teenager from NY who just filed for benefits the other day. I filed because I was looking for work but many places are no longer hiring due to the pandemic. The last time I worked was in August 2018. I didn't think I'd qualify for benefits but I figured what do I have to lose, and many friends or family friends told me I may qualify. I filled out a claim and then was asked to fill out another form about my schooling. I currently go to college full time, and that also gets in the way with finding part-time work as I have a certain schedule to abide by. Anyways, I filled out everything honestly, stated I hadn't worked since August 2018 and was asked about my school schedule all my classes and times, etc. Then it asked if the pandemic had been a reason that impacted me being unemployed, which I read through the reasons listed, and I clicked yes as I have to take care of my younger sibling as she is now at home due to school closures, and " caring for a family member who experienced a school closure" or something of that sort was listed. I then sent an email through my DOL account to ensure I did it correctly but had not heard back. The next day I get approved and get a benefit rate. Now, I never lied on the form, but I saw that many people say that it's fraud if you haven't worked in the past 18 months. When asked why my work ended in August 2018 I explained how it was an internship through the UAU summer program and that the summer essentially ended. I'm nervous now as I don't want to be labeled as committing fraud. I'm going to probably call DOL tomorrow but I wanted other opinions as well.
Please no hate if I did something wrong, I really am just confused and honestly nervous. All help would be appreciated.
