Just wondering how much you guys work because it's been a bit difficult for me to manage so far working part-time and staying on top of class work :/ Any tips appreciated too lol
Anthro 104 counts as both a Human Behavior class and an ethnic studies class. Would I be able to take it and knock out both gen ed areas with the one class?
I’m trying to get involved in more leadership activities on campus, I’m a sophomore. Does anyone know of any programs that I could apply for that has to do with mentoring? One example would be soar
I don’t want to be a tutor simply because I don’t have that knowledge but I would love to be a mentor for something I am knowledgeable about.
I would like to be a TA but only if it was for an easy class, and I don’t think those opportunities are easy to come by.
Any help would be appreciated
Has anyone successfully negotiated the rent cost at one of the luxury apts? Ie James, Grand Central, X01, etc? Some include all utilities while others do not. Is it ridiculous to even try?
i just failed my chem exam and I genuinely have no idea how to study I have a 50% in the class now. sos.
I'm going to the Purdue game tomorrow and I only have tickets from a screenshot from my friend, will it work even if it's a screenshot or are they lying to me?
I lost a thin black coat in my Math221 lecture in 10:00am today in Van Vleck B103 or in Rheta’s (for I went to lunch after the lecture). I went back to find it in these two places and search ed the Lost and Found desk in VV. However, nothing found there. If anyone find it, please post a comment here, I will contact you, Thank you very very much!!!
Hi everyone!
I just got my exam score back for the first exam in my chem 103 class and I got a 61%, bringing my grade down to like a 73%. I know the class is curved, but it’s really freaking me out since the class avg. for the exam was in the 70’s.
Can I still come out of this class with an A or AB or am I cooked? Also, any studying tips (or course tips in general)? bc obviously what I did didn’t work.
i am currently staying in dorms, but i am planning on commuting for next school year (would much rather get a refund check than to stay in dorms again) . i was wondering what your guys experience with commuting is like. i live 30 min away, there’s no bus lines near my home (i live in the middle of nowhere). so how does one go about getting a parking pass, or do you have recommendations on best way to commute?
One of my classes asked me to interview people who are more liberal and who are more conservative with the topic about their media use and their thoughts about media. As an international student, it is really hard for me to find a friend near me who are familiar with US politics orz..
Here’s the contact link if you are interested to help. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScYvtrnnUms4ddl1RI7rw5AHp9TffDqk_ARMZKJwLMySQhXBg/viewform?usp=sf_linkAnd and 5 bucks will be given if you finish the online interview. Thanks guys orz..
i’m a sophomore looking to transfer in the spring and was wondering what you all thought my my chances of getting in were. i am applying to the agriculture school for animal and veterinary biosciences. i have a 3.44 gpa because my last semester was a rough one, but the two semesters before i had almost all straight As. i’m nervous they will see my last semester grades and defer me of something. i have a few jobs and extracurricular added but nothing crazy.
I'm currently taking soil science 301 and have a midterm coming up next week and I'm not quite sure what the best approach to study is. Should I go hard on the notes or the textbook? Bit of both? What is the most important? I'm definitely going to be practicing calculation problems.
When do we get the decision for dorm accommodation after we apply for it on 28th October?
Hi! I’m trying to accept a federal work study and the buttons are all grey so it doesn’t let me click on anything, does anyone know how to fix?
Hi all! My name is Kimberly Wethal and I'm the Higher Education reporter with the Wisconsin State Journal. A recent housing study done by UW-Madison and the city showed how few "affordable" options there are in the off-campus market, with the study claiming there's only 20 total options that get students their own bedroom for less than $980. I've also heard from UW-Madison students the horrors of some of these cheaper options.
I'm hoping to pull together a story about what off-campus living conditions students can expect when they can't afford to spend big on market-rate housing. I'm most curious to talk to people who live in older/not upkept housing options, have to make serious sacrifices in terms of sharing rooms or living further away from campus to save money or some of the lucky few who have snagged up the cheaper housing options in the area.
If this fits you or someone you know, and you'd be interested in talking for the story, please reach out to me at kwethal@madison.com.
Hi so basically I ended up missing first few days of classes/discussion since I was travelling. I have friends in all my other classes but none in POLI SCI 120. And since it’s October and the midterm is gonna happen in 3 weeks I was looking for people to study with as I struggle with most gen eds. About me I’m a graduating senior studying CS and play basketball in my free time. So pm me if you’d like to study together for this class. Thanks
I'm a freshman taking the CS oriented version of ECE 252 and I'm so lost because Skrentny genuinely has no idea how to effectively teach a class or provide any reasonable practice problems other than the high stakes homework. Any advice on how to actually learn anything or cheat effectively?
I’m studying economics and absolutely hate learning the material. I’m much more interested in Urban Studies/Architecture, Journalism, Poli Sci, etc. However, everything I read about these majors is how terrible the job outcome is and you make no money.
Should I struggle through econ for a “good” major or switch to something I will enjoy and not fail?
Hello lovely people,
When filling out my schedule for next semester the only class I can really choose is between Ordinary Differential Eq’s and either of the Linear Algebras.
The rest will be Chem 104, Physics 201 and Intro to Nuclear Eng. I know it’ll be a struggle either way but what class would y’all recommend taking first?
I’m likely looking for the easier class for a gpa booster, unless there’s a good reason to take the harder class.
Thanks!
Hey guys, I’m a hs senior applying to UW Madison for computer science. I wanted to know if the Field Day Lab of the Scholl of education is accessible by computer science majors in school of computer, data and information sciences? I am an aspiring game developer and I really wanted to know if I can be a part of the Field Day Lab
I’m in town visiting my son and wondering if the marching band will have practice this afternoon from 3:30-5:30? I have watched them when visiting in summer but wondered if they continue these practices in the fall. Thanks so much.
we had our first midterm today for chem 103, and aside from 2 multiple choice problems that i felt a little unsure about, i was pretty damn confident in all my answers. which is strange because everyone is talking about how hard it was and how it’s nothing like the practice problems; but it literally felt the same? the clc worksheets were soooo much harder, and i was scared stuff like that would be on the test; but like. it was all pretty basic concept applications? am i crazy for thinking this? no one else i talked to has felt good about that exam, and i feel amazing. am i about to have a brutal reality check?
Edit: This is not meant to be a brag statement, but rather advice for succeeding. I ended up getting an 87%, which will likely be an A with the curve. I would highly recommend doing as many practice exams as possible, as well as taking time to make sure you understand every topic. also, write down practice problems and full explanations to them, especially on your notecard. i ended up being so familiar with the processes that i didn’t even need to use my notecard on the actual exam; but it was a good security blanket. It’s meticulous, but go through every problem you can find without any help, and that’ll tell you what you need to know!
I’m a female Asian American senior at a highly competitive school in California. I have a 3.7 gpa weighted, solid ECs, applying test-optional, and strong essay. I do at least 5 hours of refugee tutoring every week, and play for a national team for my sport, and am varsity captain for my team and more to give you some perspective. (And I have two excellent letters of rec). My top two schools are Tulane and Wisconsin. I’m applying ED to Tulane and still unsure whether applying Ea or regular to Wisconsin as I might do regular to get my gpa boosted by my first trimester grades this year. Does anyone have any tips or experiences they can share? With gpa or getting in with a lower gpa and through which admission cycle? Ultimately, I’d choose wisco over Tulane but am scared of not getting admitted to wisco then my chances with Tulane are also gone if I don’t ED. What I’m trying to say is, should I ED to Tulane or do I have a decent shot at getting into wisco.
Hey! Two of my friends are looking for a guy to share a three bedroom apartment. You would get your own room and the apartment can be furnished, if you want. Rent is around $880 and the two guys are super chill. Lease is from August 2025-26. It comes with utilities but I’m pretty sure electric and heating would be on the three of you. It’s an amazing location and honestly, the price is really good.
We just had our first midterm today and god damn was that shit nothing like the practice exams. Absolutely nothing. I feel like I didnt do too good but asking for others that have taken this course in the past. If u got a shitty score on the first exam, what was it and how did you change the way you studied and did u manage to still do well for the other exams? Will I still be okay even if I did bad? I was told this course is curved which in hindsight does help. Please let me know your thoughts.
(19,m) Recently moved to Madison and don’t know anyone and being alone in a room all day is making me go crazy💀 I’m always down to smoke and drink or just chill feel free to hmu or comment
I'm considering this college and wondering if it's a good fit for someone who doesn't like driving.
Did you need to get an apartment for the following year in October back then too?
With the semester started, I just wanted to share that Naked Skin Esthetics is opening on Regent St. This is a perfect opportunity to take advantage of a facial or other service at a discounted rate!
I have curly/wavy hair and was hoping to find a place near campus or the capitol that would be able to trim my hair and add layers. Price is not an issue- I would like to prioritize going somewhere I know they will do a good job rather than saving money. If anyone has any thoughts or recommendations please let me know! TIA!
