I’m gonna get season rental skis this year for my very first time skiing. And my question is what are the best shops to go to when you know nothing about skis and boots. And what are the best times to go?

I tried going to sports den today (Saturday) and it’s absolutely chaos in there. Definitely wanna be able to talk to the person and not have a panic attack around 80 people doing the same.

I live in south salt lake but willing to drive 20 minutes around the valley.

My buddy is teaching me skiing this season. The problem is that he has an epic pass and I have ikon. Since epic and ikon doesn’t overlap, I could get a day pass and learn from him but the day passes are expensive. Is there a place, some a hilly area (doesn’t have to be a resort) where I can just go to learn the basics. Then after I plan on going to the canyons and practicing more.

Do all the seasonal roads like guardsman’s pass and the road to mirror lake close today? (Nov 1)

Hello! My wife and I (26) moved to SLC last year. We are both very interested in taking Ski lessons but have heard some bad reviews from the resorts. Where would be the best place to find someone? I played hockey when I was younger but my wife would be starting from scratch. We plan to have all the equipment needed, so would just need advice/lessons from someone.

I’m 27 male. Pretty athletic and in shape. But had ACL surgery 2 years ago. Never been the same. Kinda scared to ski. But I didn’t wanna go through life never trying. Wanting to ask what ski resort and what pass i should get…

I work nights. So I’m thinking either a weekday pass somewhere so i can go in the morning before work. Or a twilight pass at Brighton. But I’d love something to do on the weekends so leaning towards the twilight pass.

Money isn’t an option so kinda whatever is cheaper. I’d prefer to avoid traffic and the “red snake” as much as possible. Also I’m new so I’d wanna avoid the crowds and not be in the way of people enjoying the mountain.

I have a Subaru Outback. And gonna get some good all terrains with 3 peak tread. And plan on getting the new sticker for the canyons.

I know nothing about any of the Utah ski resorts and what makes them different from each other. Or what’s best for beginners. Or what’s the least busy. Least expensive and so on. Any suggestions and information would be greatly appreciated.

Powder mountain day tickets just came out. The days I’ll likely be there it ranges $177 for Monday through Wednesday, $192 for Thursday, and $202 for Friday. I miss the old powder mountain…

New to the sub!

First time skier here. Well technically I have skiid before but never took lessons so consider me a newbie. My wife and I will be trekking to Salt Lake City and have 1 and a half days to ourselves. Would love to get some feedback on the itinerary that we have planned at Brighton ... specifically on the 2nd day.

• Day 1: signed up for the 2 hour group lesson. It comes with Lift Tickets and Rentals included so after the 2 hours are up, we plan on using the beginner lifts the remainder of the day.
• Day 2: We only have the first half of the day, so wanted to see if we should either:
  • Sign up for a second 2 hour lesson
  • Should the Day 1 lesson be sufficient and we can buy a Learner Lift Ticket (which gives us access to the beginner lifts) OR a Regular Day Pass. Will this be enough to enjoy the day and our time there?

I was at Alta a few times during the week last season. There were no crowds at all. It looks like a few of my trips this year will be for the weekend, and I was wondering how much heavier traffic is on the weekend. Is it just wall-to-wall?

Looking to take a trip from Denver to one of the Utah mountains for Ikon base members. Out of Snowbird, Solitude, and Brighton which do you prefer. I’m looking for best areas to stay around these mountains that won’t break the bank and could have bar/restaurant options. Just looking for a little local insight before booking my trip 🏂

Sorry to bother you all, I know you get these questions frequently but mine is a bit more specific. Hopefully this isn't too confusing.

I'll be spending 2 consecutive days at Park City, 1 day at Brighton and 1 day at Solitude towards the end of Feb.

I'll be going Mon, Tues, Thursday and Friday. I'll probably be staying somewhere near Sandy, but what order do you think would be best to avoid crowds?

I have been trying to book passes for Snowbasin, but every time I go to the website, it only shows for 2023-2024 this is my first time skiing in Utah. Is there something I'm missing, or am I on the wrong website?

Hey gang - I have a decent quiver but I have a bunch of skis from different brands I'd like to try out this season and buy one when sales come around in Spring '25. What's the most cost effective way to do a bunch of demos? I can't find any info on free demo days, DV apparently charges for their Rossi demos now, and most rental shops only advertise tourist-oriented rental packages with boots etc that I don't need. What's the move? 🙏

I'm a native Texan with a spouse who regularly flies to South Jordan for work. Last season I was able to find my way to the ski bus to Alta for three trips.

The first trip I asked for "beginner skis" and had no problem making it down Sugarloaf. On trips two and three I rented demo skis. These seemed bigger, and man I just couldn't control them the same way. I fell a few times. It was VERY discouraging. Even when I got used to them I really couldn't turn as confidently.

It seems beginner skis are shaped differently from what I can gather online. If I was to purchase or rent, is there a more specific term than that? Anyhoo, just bought my Ikon Pass and will be checking out Big Cotton Wood Canyon and Park City this season. Getting the skis right seems important. Any advice will be appreciated.

Models starting to suggest that our abnormally warm spell might come to an end late next week. Good shot at some high elevation snow. Enough for some enterprising folks to skin a lap or two? We’ll see what Mother Nature has to say 😃.

The title of this post is self-explanatory but please forgive me if this is the wrong place for it. I would imagine that it won't apply to most of the members of this community. However, you may know someone who can use this help.

I wrote this article a few years ago and I'll put a link at the end. The article is obviously aimed at first timers which we all were at some stage. I have tried to provide a basic guide gathered from my own experiences. Unfortunately, due to physical limitations and age, my last time on skis was 2 years ago just after covid and I am thinking that was probably my last but I am grateful to the many trips I have enjoyed (all in Europe as I am from the UK)

I have also included information about the use of self-hypnosis as I am a therapist and have helped many people overcome nerves around skiing as well as horse riding which is the other passion of mine.

 I will probably post this on one or two of the other ski communities so forgive me if you come across it again.
