As title says, I applied for a request yesterday due to illness (with a valid doctor's certificate), but I still have heard no response from UQ. The exam is tomorrow, what should I do? I'm pretty poorly right now, but if it means not failing the course I am able to make my way to UQ and explain my situation. If anyone has any insight on this it would be greatly appreciated.
A 30% assignment required submitting in two places - Blackboard and Turnitin (for plagiarism check). I only submitted (on time) to Blackboard as I forgot to do the Turnitin part and have never needed to do 2 submissions for an assignment before.
The tutor has told me I'll be getting zero marks for the assignment. Can I appeal or contest this decision in any way? Is there anything that can be done? I realise it's my mistake but it's a harsh punishment. I had straight 7s in my last semester but I'll probably be looking at a 4 or 5 for this subject now... Thanks
Any upcoming 2028 student ( joining in 2025 feb ) wants to start a insta group chat???
Hi, peeps! For those who are currently studying their master's degree in psychology at UQ, how's the experience?
Follow up question: Would you recommend an international student to study there?
TIA!
anybody have tips?
This semester has been pretty rough on me mentally and I've already decided I'm going to skip one of my final exams does anyone know what happens next?
I will not be applying for deffered exam because i am burnt out and will not have the capacity to study without having a major impact to my mental health.
I am fully prepared to try this course again next year/semester i just want to know what i should be prepared for following my skipping of the exam.
what the title says. please excuse my ignorance :)
I’m doing econ1020 this summer semester. I’m wondering if there is any difference in doing it online or internally. There seems to be 1 tutorial and 1 workshop a week, although who knows half the time workshops are just another name for lectures. If I did internal, could I probably just not go to these if I didn’t want to?
TIA ❤️
i am an international student heading to UQ next feb to study dentistry! feel free to text me if youre also a uq student/ gg to uq next yr as im looking for friends or ppl to connect with in general!!
In some of our exams, we need to asnwer them in a separate booklet but what if I do them on the same one booklet? Do they not mark as different lecturers mark their modules?
Hi Can anyone suggest me some level 2 general elective courses which are conducted in summer semesters and easy to get good grades maybe HDs
A course I wanna enrol in this summer semester (econ1020) seems like it has a minimum quota of 25. Is there any likelihood that it won’t reach the quota? Thanks.
Australian non-muslim here
I live and work near a suburb on the southside that is an enclave for conservative muslims. By conservative, I mean holding to traditional family values, disciplined lifestyles, supporting right-wing politicians during elections and making decent money from hard work while spending it responsibly.
That said...
Why do some left-wing student organisations at UQ - esp socialist students groups, lgbt advocacy, indigenous rights - support palestine and hold protests if these groups are not necessarily supported by conservative muslims?
Hi! I got accepted into Emman a few weeks ago and had some questions:
a. I’m from Melbourne, so how many Interstate/International students are there usually at the colleges?
b. What’s O-Week like? How are the activities?
c. What’s up with fresher names? Do they stick? How are they chosen and do we have any input?
d. What’s the party culture like? I do love a good party but how regular are they? Would I still have time for study/a job?
e. What’s the general crowd of people at Emman? Will it be hard to fit in?
f. How do the tutorials work?
g. Is the food good?
Sorry for all the questions 😭 Thanks in advance to anyone who answers!
Hi everyone, Just wanna ask about law study. My dream is becoming a criminal lawyer but I didn’t study at law for two reasons: My parents wanted me to become a literature teacher and my I failed the law test for entry enrolment. Yeah, definitely, I gave up my lawyer dream and I studied teaching. I graduated bachelor of teaching and master of education in leadership and inclusive education. To be honest, I don’t really love education but I have a strong awareness of my responsibility as a teacher. I don’t expect I am a good teacher but I can ensure that I am doing the right things in this role. When I change to administrative role, particularly educational policy analysis for inclusive environment, my passion of law was coming up to me again. Another thing is I feel this environment doesn’t belong to me. My thoughts and educative perspectives are quite different from others. I am passionate in inclusion education, particularly bringing education to Indigenous students and students from rural areas but to be faith, people around me work just because of money and always complain. For me, definitely we need money for living but if money is a life goal, education doesn’t work in true way.
So I spent time to think about my future. Next year I will turn to 25 years old, I don’t really know should I quit everything I am working in education role to study law or keep going to pursue education. My best friend has worked in law for 1 year and he said to me that lots of pressure in law, lawyers can earn lots of money rather than educators but their life are very stressful and overwhelming, specially if I want to become criminal lawyer. Indeed, I am a female so gender discrimination is another concern.
Any experiences and advice? Many thanks!
I made a post about studying abroad at UQ starting in July for semester 2. I had to turn in the course overview pages for the 7 I wish to take (only taking 4). Only one that seems not to transfer over is Genetics due to the practical portion not being explained on the overview. I did email the professor but not sure if I’ll get a response. Does anyone who has or are currently taking BIOL2202 have an overview or something that explains the practicals more? If not I’ll have to wait for the professed to get back with me. Thanks
Hi everyone, I’m an American student who was offered to study at UQ for the Bachelors of Veterinary Science program! I was offered about a week ago, and sent in my acceptance letter yesterday after getting a secondary email saying the quota seats were almost full. Does anyone know about how many seats there are for international students in this program versus how many offers are sent out? I was taking some time to get the money together for the deposit and I hate to think the wait made it that I missed my chance :(, especially since it was only a week. If anyone has any experience with UQ quota programs, please share because I’ve never run into a university like this! Hope to be studying with you all soon!
Hi,
I am considering doing a PhD after completing a Bachelor of Advanced Science (Honours) and was curious as to whether I am interpreting the entry requirements for a PhD correctly.
To my understanding from the UQ website, you need to have either a cumulative GPA across your entire degree of Honours Class IIA or higher or demonstrate 'research preparedness'. The webpage I saw stated that completed courses that aim to develop research skills would qualify you for a PhD: would courses like SCIE3260 or SCIE3010 count for this? (Would it be a good or bad idea to take courses like SCIE3260 and SCIE3010 in the same semester?)
I noticed you can also complete a "supervised research project that includes an individually graded written report with a combined minimum course volume equal to #4 units" that would also qualify you for a PhD: would this relate to a built-in Honours year? Or something else?
Thank you!
I’m an intl student. I’m tryna get to know people (locals and intl) cos it’s daunting moving to a new country. Also idk what’s going on and I feel lost
Hi, currently a second year student having trouble understanding whether admissions/QTAC takes my GPA or my original ATAR into consideration in my situation? I’m wanting to switch degrees but have been given mixed information. I have completed 14 units (so under a full year of study) and have therefore been told that regardless of program I should apply for the new degree I want through QTAC and only my original ATAR will be used for eligibility. However the ‘tertiary studies selection rank’ pdf given to me (and accessible on Google) has a first graph with information making me worried they’ll use my GPA from this original degree converted to a less than ideal selection rank (this degree was definitely not for me) and they’d go with that instead which would leave me likely ineligible for my new degree. If anyone has any experience or knowledge on this type of thing before I’d greatly appreciate any help because everyone I call has been giving me the run around.
Does uq math grade on bell curve?(e.g. limiting the number of hd
Hiya! Has anyone gotten any acceptances for courses such as social work, criminology and criminal justice?
Hi all... It's my last semester and I feel so defeated... Failed a core course last year that I am re-taking and I feel like I'm on the same path? The content load is sooo heavy and we only get tested once - on an EoS 50% HURDLE exam. I'm sitting on a 6 atm thanks to assignments, but all that could be for nothing if I don't pass the exam.. I just don't get how you can either get a "6 or 7" or a 3 ... WTH? :(
I am of the *neurospicy* variety, and recalling content from 40 hours of lectures, and many more of readings, just doesn't happen that easily... Just thinking about the fact that I have to be able to recall all of that info in a 1 hour and 20 minute exam makes my mind go blank with panic and overwhelmment.
I don't know that I necessarily have a question, more so a call out to others who may be going through the same thing - so that I don't feel so alone in my panic T^T
Hi! I’ll be taking the Bachelor of Computer Science majoring in Machine Learning (3 years) at UQ, and I’m curious about what the learning experience is like. Are there any projects, like a final-year project (FYP)? If there’s no official FYP, do you think there are projects we can work on ourselves to create something similar?
Also, do the assignments relate closely to what we learn in lectures? I’ve heard that sometimes assignments don’t fully align or make sense. Was it difficult to score well?
I’ve also heard mixed opinions about studying at UQ like some people say not to go there so I’m a bit worried about starting my degree. Was it worth it for you to study this major at UQ? I’d love to hear your thoughts!
Hey guys can I change psychologists after the first appointment or I have to stick to the psych?
Hi guys, I really wanna apply for vacationer programs next year and currently have a GPA of 6.4, I was wondering if this is too low for getting in if I'm an international student and its so incredibly competitive. I do work multiple jobs in the industry so, what do you guys think, am I in the clear or am I unlikely to land something?
Hi so im currently in year 12 and hopefully studying pharmacy at uq in 2025, I just had a couple of question:
- Is the guaranteed atar a real thing? Like am I actually guaranteed an offer if my atar is above 80 and ive passed chem and English?
- Does a pass in chem, require a pass for my externals or just over a 50/100
- How is pharmacy at UQ? Is it worth it/fun? Also, should I pursue a master’s degree and go for academia/research? I’m interested in doing that type of stuff but not sure if it’ll be worth it.
Thank you 😊 any comments would be much appreciated.
I plan on studying abroad at UQ through a program, I’m from the US. My advising center is being a bit difficult and needs the course syllabi for the courses I plan to take, many marine or wildlife courses. I tried to look them up but can’t find any. Any advice or do I need to email UQ to get them?
