I just transferred here this fall semester, and I absolutely hate it here. I have made zero friends, and I am not exaggerating. My last school everyone was friendly, and it was easy to talk to anyone. I made a whole bunch of friends, but had to leave because of financial reasons. Everyone here seems bothered if you talk to them for longer than a minute, or like they are disgusted with your presence. Don't get me wrong I love the academics and my professors are amazing, but the students suck ass. There are no parties, and nothing to do downtown if you aren't 21, and there is no community at this school. I guess I am just mourning my old college life. I tried to hold out for the end of the semester, but here we are!
i'm a senior in hs and like 95% sure that im gonna go to umw in the fall since i already got accepted, but im wondering what the party scene is like? i know theres no greek like but is there anything else. i know it shouldn't be that important to me but it is cuz i need to have fun and maintain my social life.
Hi! I’m currently a junior looking to be a history major and i’ve been looking into mary washington’s historical preservation program (i know that’s different than history but im interested in that as well) which i’ve heard is one of the best in the country (can someone confirm or deny?) this would be huge motivation for me to go because i’m not sure about the employability rate of a history major but if the school/program has a name for itself that’s probably a step up.
I’ve seen quite a few contradicting answers to what it’s like to be queer at mary wash? Some people say most are queer or at least accepting and others say the queer community is present but cliquey and distant. I’ve also seen people say that it’s hit or miss whether or not people are accepting and ids not the best place for gay people.
Mary wash would probably be a great school for me because of the program and it’s just an hour from where I live, however i’m in one of Virginia’s uber conservative rural parts and it has been hell to grow up and hell since the election so i’m really trying to move someone more accepting or at least somewhere where I can just be left alone that’s in Virginia. This applies to Fredericksburg also (not just umw) but i’ve heard good things about it.
I am specifically trans ftm and intend to start my transition in college (depending on the laws to be passed in the current future it might solely be social which i know is kinda dangerous but whatever) and I saw they had lgbt dorms which is usually a good sign so can anyone give insight into those?
I’m just really trying to make the right college decision (even though i’m still only a junior) but if anyone knows of any colleges or universities that are known for queer acceptance and good history programs in Virginia or even Maryland/NC i’m open to suggestion.
Hey guys, I just moved near fxbg and I am not sure what there is to do. I left all my friends and family up north for an IT engineering job down here. Where can I go to meet people and do fun stuff? Just turned 21 btw.
I noticed that there are no undergrad research course this year. Anyone know what's up with that?
How do you cope with the internet on campus? Do other people struggle as much as I do? My friends here say they don't have as many issues as I do, but I find that some buildings are just dead zones. Overall it's like fine, and residence halls have great WiFi for me but like eduroam and UMW connections suck.
Hello! My name is Sarah Silberman, I am a Criminology and Criminal Justice Doctoral Candidate at the University of Maryland who researches sexual violence, and I am currently recruiting for an interview study on sexual misconduct in academia. For IRB approval, please see see my department page here: https://ccjs.umd.edu/gradprofile/silberman/sarah. The goal of this study is to better understand the impact of academic sexual misconduct on graduate students in the greater-Washington DC area. This study is seeking diverse voices on this topic, and I am hoping to speak with people who are currently in academia, those who are planning on leaving, and those who have already left.
If you or someone you know who experienced academic sexual misconduct: 1) as a graduate student 2) in the greater-Washington DC area 3) between 2011 and now and 4) is interested in participating in a 1.5 - 2 hour interview, please fill out the interest form here: tinyurl.com/asmneardc
I applied early admission for November 15th a few weeks ago. I’m just wondering if anyone ever got their decision before the deadline or how long after it took them. Thanks!
I’m a senior in HS I’ve gotten some pretty conflicting opinions about this uni that has me confused some saying the people are weird and other reasons it’s bad while others say the Schools great the campus looks pretty, the tuition promise would probably save me financially with my financial problems, and I’ve heard it’s pretty accepting for lgbt which is good but the reviews are so vastly different from people I asked so I want to know some peoples honest opinions about this school And one more thing if there’s any trans students here as well could you tell me about you’re experience
Edit: one more thing I forgot to add how are the dorms there I haven’t found many good pictures

Hi, guys, I'm setting up an interview for a student employment position (which is supposed to reduce $1250 off what I need to pay) but I'm confused on a few things - when receiving the pay, do you give the allotted amount each semester or at the end of the year? Where do you pay it to? Etc... I'm so lost lmfao 😭😭😭 and the FAQ on the site is no help.
I’m having trouble getting into my locker at the post office. Are these things just locked to the public from now on or is this just a Labor Day weekend thing?
What all is there to do on campus for freshman? Do we get to use the gym for free?
Heyo
Next year I plan on transferring to UMW and was interested in majoring in historic preservation! I've heard that UMW has a fantastic program, so I just wanted to know if anyone here has any experience studying H.P. at the school and what it is like, or if there are any alumni that can share what their experience post graduation looks like in the world of historic preservation. I plan on obtaining the GIS certificate as well because GIS seems super interesting, and also seems like it is used quite a bit in historic preservation, so if anyone has any insight on that or if they've gone into the GIS field after following a similar route, I'd love to hear. Thanks!
Specifically looking for a easy speaking intensive class in the major of Business Admin and how are the online speaking intensive classes?
So it’s my first year as an upperclassman and I’ll be situated in Arrington Hall. If anyone has lived in that building, what are some good essentials to buy so I can be prepared for the school year? I’ve never lived on a campus before and want to make sure I’m ready before the end of August.
Hiya, I'll be starting at UMW this fall and was hoping to get some recommendations for some good off-campus dining spots. I've heard the farmers market is popular but would appreciate a few more suggestions. Also, I was wondering about the policy on food delivery services like DoorDash. I've heard it wasn't allowed this year at some colleges due to security concerns—is that the case here as well?
I did go on a tour of ODU this past month and I do notice a lot of similarities. Did anyone else think same?
I can't find any instagram group or anything aside from the ZeeMee, any help?
Hey guys! Similar to a post I saw here the other week, I have an internship in the Fredericksburg area from late May -- early August and would like to figure out a sublease if possible. Something covering the months of June and July would be ideal, so if you know anyone who's interested in renting/subletting a place please lmk!
I go 3.1 gpa this year and 1190 on my SAT is much better I apply to UMW or JMU ?? I I’ll not have to much application fees or waiver I’m second generation
anyone hav any advice/experience on what the major is like here?
Completely hypothetical because I haven’t gotten accepted to either, but weighing options between GMU and UMW for a communications degree. Any thoughts?
Looking at UMW and CNU, not sure if one has a notably stronger or weaker program or not
Right now I'm really stuck in-between UMW and CNU, and can't decide which. I plan on studying cybersecurity and I love the size of each school, and their campuses. They both seem like great schools and I'd like to hear directly from some students why you actually chose to go here. (Bonus points if you're doing Cybersec/comp sci, or if you were considering CNU as well)
Is there good groups to be a part of at UMW? Deciding between GMU and UMW. Student life and groups definitely help in that decision.
Hello fellow college students. I will be interning in the Fredericksburg area this summer and am looking for short term housing. I plan to be in Fredericksburg from early May through early August. Not sure how many UMW students live off campus but if anyone has a full-year lease signed but won't be in Fredericksburg this summer send me a PM. I am looking to sublease. Single bedroom/studio preferred. Thanks!
Has anyone found a UMW 2028 instagram page for new students?
The last time I was in college was almost twenty years ago and I ended up with a 2.97 gpa because I was burnt out. I graduated high school a year early with a 4.33 gpa. I’d love to get into the environmental science program. Does anyone know what the lowest gpa is that UMW will take for a transfer student? Thank you.
Update, I got accepted!!!
