^(Looks like this sub is dead but I thought I'd post this just in case anyone sees it since there's not a lot of up-to-date perspectives on UIW on this site...)
Hey everyone, I'm a recent high school grad who’s been taking classes at Alamo Colleges and planning to transfer to a 4-year school next spring or fall. I've determined that I'll be staying in San Antonio for undergrad, and I'm mainly considering UIW for convenience since I live nearby.
I would go to UTSA (seems to offer a lot of resources while being affordable) but I’d prefer a smaller campus vibe and am not super keen on the longer drive (I'd be commuting). Trinity was also on my radar, but the cost and required on-campus living are turning me off.
My main concern is academics—I've heard mixed reviews about that aspect of UIW. I am set on going to grad school, so while my undergrad school shouldn't matter too much, I want to make sure I’ll be well-prepared and have access to things like research opportunities. I’m pursuing a science major (not pre-med).
The tuition is another factor. I don’t see UIW offering much more than a public school like UTSA or TAMUSA (besides convenience in my case). That said, I’ll save from living at home, and I should be able to get some finaid and/or scholarships. With the credits I've earned at CC and while in HS, I’m hoping to finish in about 2 years.
Lastly, I'm curious about the campus culture. As someone who's not religious, will I feel out of place? I went to a Catholic HS in SA for a year, and while it wasn't terrible, it wasn't the best fit for me. I'm not into the party scene or anything like that, just hoping to meet some nice, open-minded people.
Would love to hear any thoughts from people who have experience with UIW!
Hey, i will be going to UIW this semester, what are the best/fun top residence halls on campus?
Thank you in advance!
Hello!
So right now I am currently a student at Northwest Vista college and I have learned that a transfer to UIW for a graphic design degree is possible. I wanted to ask those in the degree or who are in the know how it is, are internships possible, and how is the job outlook for those who graduate with this degree.
For context, am from Ohio at a 1500 undergrad school. Am a junior biochem major and have no intention of changing. Am strongly considering physician assistant school or D.O. school. Would try to walk onto the football team if I attended
Hey y’all, I attended UIW for two years starting back in 2019. I’m trying to remember where cardinal camp/the freshman orientation camp took place. It was an away stay, maybe two nights, at some sort of ranch or something, along a river. If anyone knows the name of the location please reply! I transferred out of UIW so I no longer have access to that student email account that had the info on it. Trying to figure it out for my job, we’re looking for a similar place to have a team weekend trip next spring ! There was lots of activities, we did a hike and canoeing/swimming, zip lining but that got canceled for us lol; we stayed in cabins dorms and ate at a dining hall daily. It had a gift shop as well I remember. Thanks to anyone who can help!
I can’t remember if they are free or like $10? What’s the website for student tickets?
Hi everyone,
I am an international student and will be attending UIW for 1 semsester. I was wondering, since UIW is a catholic school, are there any parties etc. Or are there any frat houses nearby that host parties for example? Go Cards!
Hey Reddit community,
I'm in search of housing near the UIW campus and could really use your help! Although I'm not a UIW student, I've recently secured a job in the area and need to find a place to stay as soon as possible.
If any of you have any leads or suggestions on affordable apartments, rooms for rent, or any other housing options around the UIW campus, please let me know. I'm open to roommates as well if anyone is looking for a reliable, responsible, and easy-going person to share expenses with.
Your assistance would be greatly appreciated! Feel free to drop a comment or message me directly. Thank you in advance for your support!
Hi, I was recently accepted to the Direct Admit program for SOM at UIW, and the only thing holding me back from committing is that I cannot find any outside information or reviews for the English program here. Writing and literature are things I am extremely passionate about, so I want an undergrad program that will nurture that even while I get my pre-med classes done. If any English majors see this, please, please, please: how is the English program at UIW?
Some other questions: How many people are in the English program? How are professors? Is literature approached from diverse viewpoints and through the lenses of diverse theories?
Hello!
My name is Liz and I’m a queer high school student that has interest in attending this campus. I am wondering if this school is open toward the LGBT community and what my experience would look like if I were to attend.
Is there anything I should know about the campus experience?
I am currently in graduate school here at UIW and am looking to see if there is a powerlifting team on the undergraduate campus.
I used to powerlift at my undergraduate and would love to be able to attend practices if there is an undergraduate powerlifting team.
Is there any pickup volleyball (sand or indoor) that goes on? Doesn’t have to be competitive or anything, but if it is that’s ok with me
Hi, I was wondering if UIW early admissions were binding?
We are looking for students to complete our study for 40$ of financial compensation! The study will take place at the UTSA campus. In this study you will play a game on the computer, then take a nap or watch YouTube for 2 hours and then complete a final computer game. If interested please email dr.lernerlab@gmail.com
Hi Everyone,
I have been working for some time now on this website ratemycourses.io and I am really excited to share it with you.
You can use this to look at reviews and get advice on courses you're interested in. You can also sort courses by difficulty, usefulness and the overall rating from reviews made by other students. I think if enough people start using it regularly. it's going to be essential when you're choosing your electives or just to get advice on courses you will be taking.
Lastly, filtering and sorting courses is only gonna be useful and accurate if there are a lot of reviews, so please go ahead and leave some reviews to courses you've taken or are currently taking.
Also, please dm me if you have an idea on how I can let more students know about this. And if anyone is interested in writing an article about this dm me!
Enjoy!!
Is anyone really good at organic chemistry? Pm plz, willing to pay for help
Hi! I’ve been accepted and hoping to join the School of Media and Design and get into the animation program for film animation. I’m just hoping to hear how current students or alumni liked the program and if it’s worth it over other schools. For instances I also got accepted to UTD for their ATEC and also hoping to get into their animation program. I’m a transfer student and still new to how “real” colleges work and also still figuring out Reddit lmao. And if anyone can lead me to somewhere else I can get this info, just let me know :)

So I've been studying in some of the empty classrooms at night and I was wondering what time they come around to lock the buildings at night. Ideally, I would like to avoid getting locked in, especially on a Friday night. Also, do they come unlock the buildings on the weekends, or are they closed until Monday?
Those this school offer the MBA program online? I'm having trouble finding this information on the website. I find secondary sources that tell me the school does but I would prefer to hear it from the primary source.
I am a senior dietetics student in CA interested in applying for UIW DI in Spring 2021.
If you are a past UIW dietetic intern or know someone who is, I would love to hear about your/their experience in this program. It can be about the DI director, rotations, GPA, application, etc. Any insight is greatly appreciated!
Can anyone tell me there experience with the program? How was it? How long did it take you?
Thanks!
Hey,
I am an international student coming to UIW next year. I was wondering is there stuff to do on campus after class? And are there bars or nightclubs close by?
Thank you!
