Edit: doesn’t matter for spring semester because zone G is sold out. But, I’m still curious for next fall!
I start nursing school in January and am trying to decide between zone B and zone G for parking.
Zone B: there is only one deck, so I know exactly where I’ll be parking each day, but it’s a .50 mile, 11 minute walk.
Zone G: the closest 2 lots are only a 4 minute walk, but how likely am I to get a spot in those lots? My class days start at 8 (not sure about lab/simulation day start times). The furthest 2 lots in the zone are a 12 minute walk…but that’s after driving around through the lots to find an available spot (so could waste a lot of time).
So—do I go with the consistency of the deck (B) that’s further away or the possibility of something close, but maybe having to hunt for it and still walk a long way if close lots are full.
TLDR: how quickly do the close zone G lots fill up? If I’m there by 7:15/7:30 should I be good to get a spot or should I just do zone B and plan for a longer walk?
Hey this is my first semester and I’m having a bit of a hard time meeting people does anyone have access to any GroupMe groups? Preferably ones that are active often
Is anyone in the Chemistry program going towards the forensic specificity? I am looking at moving there from Utah and it's a Fepac approved course direction but I just want to know how people think it is and their experience with the program in general. Thank you for y'all's time!
Was at the UAB football game yesterday, Blaze is better than any other mascot I’ve seen the way he interacts with fans and gets involved in the game. Made my day, and made me a UAB fan.
i want to get zone G to be close to the UAB nursing building but on the map it has multiple G zones like G-1, G-7, G-3 Etc. but on the website to purchase it only says G not G-1 and so on. my question is if i purchase zone G does that mean i can park in any of the G's because it's about 7 G lots. if not i don't want to accidentally get the furthest lot. helppp im confused and just need help picking a close zone really
I'm starting UAB in the spring semester and plan on moving on-campus next fall. I've been told that I'd have a better chance at getting whichever dorm I want if I apply for housing already having roommates, instead of choosing to have them be randomly selected. I'm most interested in getting Blount hall and from what I've been told it's a little harder to get into. What's the best way to go about finding potential roommates as a transfer student?
Hey all,
I will be joining UAB in Jan 2025, I'm transfer student from SFU, as I'm under 21 is it compulsory for me to stay in residence or I can stay off campus on my own?
Thanks in advance for your response.
I'm starting at UAB next year and my husband and I are looking to either buy or rent a house somewhere outside of the city. Can anyone give any suggestions of more rural areas maybe 20-40 mins out that are safe/inexpensive? Thanks!
I am wanting to transfer to UAB for the fall 2025 term, and I want to get as much scholarship money as I possibly can. Does the BSMART application include some transfer scholarships?
I'm a freshman at UA wishing I'd chosen UAB instead. The only thing stopping me is the fact that I have a full tuition scholarship at UA, and I do not want to financially burden my family by switching to UAB and having to pay tuition. Is there any way I could still get a full tuition scholarship at UAB?
i don’t know if yall remember me asking about my admissions chances, but I got in! I also got a 27 on my ACT second time and was able to recieve a Provost Scholarship!
I'm Applying For the fall 2025 semester, but it says the housing applications close in February, but admissions applications don't end until june 1st and I have to have a blazers id to apply for housing? How does that work?
What’s the best City as A Classroom class to take as a pre health major? Or what are the ones that aren’t as time consuming?
Like the title says, where do the grad students at UAB usually study? I wish we had a graduate lounge like most universities but alas..
(I’m an art history masters student, so I don’t really venture into any of the STEM buildings but I totally will if I can get my study on)
I came in with many credits from high school, so I’m ahead in my degree and I’m ending up with a few extra classes worth of institutional credit hours as a requirement to graduate. What are some fun and easy elective classes I could take? I’m a psychology major and I’m considering a sociology minor to fill up those credits, but I think I’d rather take an intro sculpting class or something like that instead (I forget the full class name and code but it’s ART100 something) Additionally, are there any specific professors that are particularly fun? I’ll be taking some extra psych electives, and I’ve got research practicum credits as well, but I feel like I’ve got an opportunity to take something silly and unrelated just for fun.
I am originally from Birmingham, but I toured UNA last year and really liked it, so i’ve been at UNA in Florence since August. I don’t know how many other transfer students have had this same experience, maybe it was at another university, but the students who attend this school are incredibly bigoted. I have probably experienced more people being homophobic at UNA than I did in high school. It is absolutely unbelievable, like we are students in a UNIVERSITY. I have had such bad experience, I cannot wait to come back to Birmingham and attend UAB, if you have had a similar experience lmk! I’d love to hear about it.
I have a scooter that requires charging and ive been charging it outside stern but as it gets colder id rather find somewhere inside that allows scooters. Does anybody know of any places I can charge my scooter in warmth?
Is it safe to walk to lumen apartments at night from UAB?
I got accepted into the Collat Honors Program, but I'm wondering if I should take the invitation because my advisor said I would graduate a semester later than expected. From anyone who's been in it is it worth graduating later than expected? I know you get a $500 scholarship for each completed honors class, but does that even cover the cost of the actual class on your tuition?
How long does UAB take to provide an I-20? I was accepted for an MS in CS for fall 2025. I wish to get an I-20 quicker to secure a visa slot request, which is terrible in my country if it's done late.
I’m about to be a sophomore soon and I’m searching to see what is the best dorm to stay in as a sophomore at UAB for someone with OCD? My biggest fear is the building being disgusting and smelling bad. Someone told me Rast was the best hall to be on but I keep getting mixed reviews!
The city of Birmingham is currently going through and completely updating the city's zoning map. The zoning map is what sets where and how much housing is allowed across the city. In particular, areas around UAB campus are being considered for some of the most restrictive housing limitations in the city, sure to drive up rents and create additional commuter traffic. Contact the city's PEP office of planning & zoning to let them know your thoughts: https://www.birminghamal.gov/city-directory/planning-engineering-permits/planningzoning/
The rezoning plan (Most relevant map: Southside, but other areas may affect you more directly):

Has anyone taken online or honors biostats (PUH 250) ? If so how hard was it and would you recommend taking biostats online?
I'm a black trans girl and I'm wondering how things might be for me
Hi everyone, I am moving to Birmingham for a job at UAB and looking for apartments close to the campus. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
I’m currently going to UAB online ** to get my business degree and I have to take two electives. What two electives would you guys recommend from your experiences? preferably on the east side!! thanks!
Are George Forman grills or similar grills allowed in McMahon dorms? I found a paper that said they are at blazer but it looks kinda old so idk if they are still allowed.
Has anyone taken biostatistics 611? If so, how is it? I'm currently a humanities grad student but want to push myself to gain better understanding of stats. Wondering if this will be too hard.
Does anyone know how much UAB charges for leaving a semester early? I filled out my request form because I am doing an internship in another state next semester.
I am a graduate student and only need 6 more elective credit hours to graduate. A friend of mine said she took a class titled GRD 730 which was about LinkedIn. That one isn't being offered but there are several courses listed under this GRD department. Does anyone have any experience with these? What is the difficulty level?
If you know of any easy graduate courses, also drop those below!
