My husband and I are celebrating our 20 year anniversary and are looking for some nice restaurants we can walk to from our resort.
-We are not super fancy. -Please no french food with names we can’t pronounce -We love a good Italian or American meal. -Ambiance is important - something more quiet and where we’re not packed in so close with other people that you can hear their conversations. -We’d love a good view of the ocean but it’s not a dealbreaker.
With that said, we would like a more upscale and romantic restaurant on our actual anniversary.
Your input is greatly appreciated- I still can’t believe I just booked us this trip - I’m so excited!!
Has anyone been to the Alexandra Resort very recently? I know they were closed for a while earlier this fall and I am wondering what the improvements are like, if the resort is nicer now, any changes to the restaurants, service (which has disappointing reviews), etc.
This is Grace Bay at 4:46 pm on June 5, 2020.
Every afternoon, after work, my wife and I would pack a cooler and plant ourselves beside Club Med. Some days we didn’t see a single person.
It was surreal. One minute you are sweltering in line, distanced six feet apart, waiting to get in to the IGA for groceries and an hour later you are alone on one of the best beaches on Earth.
It was a weird scene, but I am super grateful.
Hello! Coming to Grace Bay soon and luckily we’ll be there right after the full moon!
I see that there are several companies that do evening glow worm sails. Is there one that is best (particularly for people staying in Grace Bay without a rental car)?
Thanks so much!!!
Has anyone ever brought a cart to Turks
Heading to Grace Bay this Saturday and only there for 4 days. Been checking the weather constantly and it's not looking good. I know it never looks good but it's saying there's an outside chance of tropical development in the area and heavy winds for essentially the whole trip. I know the weather tends to over predict the Caribbean but I should begin thinking about canceling?
Restaurant/ Food recommendations that are the best bang for your buck- and good quality but not necessarily too pricey? Take out/ cafes/ deli’s/ pizza/ restaurant options! Thank you in advance!
YouTube video 28 minutes long, with some details unknown to many.
Both Male and Female restrooms are undergoing “renovations.” No functional urinals in the Male’s restrooms. Just three stalls held together by a temporary 2x4 frame. Only two sinks. Similar case in the Ladies facility. No ventilation either…
Currently scheduled to leave Oct 31- Nov 6 to Providenciales and the forecast is scaring me. Should I cancel my trip or do you think the forecast will end up being sunny?
Hi all! I am going to T&C next May for the first time and I was wondering about excursions. Should I book excursions before my trip or wait till I get there? For those who’ve been, what do y’all do?
I’m staying at the Sands and I believe they have a excursion help desk. But if excursions book up fast in May then I feel like I should book ahead.
Also if anyone has any excursions they recommend please lmk! Thanks!!
Heading to Providenciales in a few days and all forecasts are calling for some pretty serious winds (20-35 mph). They've been saying this for days now but when I check the webcams of resorts, it doesn't look too bad. Do they tend to over forecast this or can it be problematic?
Limited Local Production
• Most goods, including food, fuel, and construction materials, are imported due to limited local production. Import taxes and shipping costs make everyday items more expensive.
High Import Duties
• Turks and Caicos has high import duties, often ranging from 10% to 30%. This increases the prices of nearly all goods, including groceries, appliances, and vehicles.
Luxury Tourism Market
• Turks and Caicos is known for luxury tourism, attracting high-net-worth individuals and driving up prices for accommodations, dining, and entertainment to match the expectations of affluent visitors.
Real Estate Demand
• Property in Turks and Caicos is in high demand, particularly by foreign investors, leading to soaring real estate prices. This affects rental and property ownership costs, pushing them far above average levels.
Limited Labor Pool
• The islands rely heavily on expatriates for skilled labor, particularly in tourism and construction. Employers often offer higher wages to attract and retain workers, raising costs for services.
Electricity and Utilities Costs
• Electricity is primarily generated from imported diesel fuel, making energy costs extremely high. This, in turn, increases costs for both residents and businesses, influencing prices for services and products.
Expensive Health and Education Services
• With few medical and educational facilities on the islands, residents often need to travel off-island for specialized care or high-quality education, adding to living expenses. Local services also charge high fees to cover operational costs.
Infrastructure and Development Costs
• The islands are in a constant state of infrastructure improvement to cater to tourism. These projects are costly and lead to higher local taxes, which indirectly affect the cost of goods and services.
Exchange Rate Dependence
• The islands use the U.S. dollar, which is relatively strong, making imported goods from countries with weaker currencies pricier. Fluctuations in the dollar can impact overall costs.
Remote Location
• Being geographically isolated, Turks and Caicos relies on costly shipping routes for imports. The lack of economies of scale further inflates prices for everything from groceries to electronics.
These combined factors make the Turks and Caicos Islands one of the more expensive places to live in the Caribbean.
My husband and I and one other couple are trying to decide between 2 airbnbs. One is in Grace bay but not as upgraded feel in the condo but still very nice in the ocean club west area. Another condo is in Pelican Beach. Has a more luxurious feel. We’re not against renting a car. Any insight to help us make a choice would be lovely! We’re not huge partiers but also do enjoy a good time!
I'm planning a surprise family trip to T&C in December. Feeling swayed by beaches, because we've never been down there before and all-inclusive sounds all-too-easy, but I've seen a lot of posts here advising against it. Anyone have recommendations on hotels, things to do, etc? I've also seen the posts about crime, so obviously I want to have a safe trip.
Guy with a knife casing a house in Leeward last night. Alarm goes off so he gives the finger and bails. This way too common. Happens in Venetian, Leeward, Turtle Tail…everywhere. If you are renting a house or villa, keep your shit locked.
I'm supposed to head to Provo in about a week. Our hotel is non refundable but do they usually make exceptions if this disturbance in the Caribbean affects the island?
Looking for a place to stay. I cant stand massive resorts. Just want a smaller hotel on the beach with booze and food within walking distance. Any suggestions?
Currently scheduled to arrive from the 2nd to the 9th and the thunderstorms every day are scaring me away. Are you all really hiding inside all day? Does the sun peak out?
Hello! My wife and I are going to be spending next week in Turks and Caicos. It’s our first time and we are so excited. I’ve done a decent amount of research and my current plan is to spend the first few nights on Providenciales and then spend the last couple nights on middle Caicos. But I’m running into a dilemma. We are going to rent a car on both islands but will be returning the car our last morning at 8am before we catch the ferry back to providenciales and then we will be stuck at the ferry landing and our flight doesn’t leave until 4pm. I imagine finding a taxi shouldn’t be too hard from the ferry landing and then head to Grace bay for the morning until we need to go to the airport? I’m not sure.
Does anyone have any better ideas? Or even some reassurance that this is a good plan. I’m feeling a bit hesitant on it since we don’t really have much of a plan for that last morning.
Do you think Google Reviews are important for Local Businesses 🤷♂️ ?
Most local businesses in the Turks and Caicos Islands struggle to generate substantial sales partly because they lack visibility on platforms like Google. In the digital age, Google reviews play a critical role in shaping consumer decisions. For small businesses, having positive Google reviews boosts credibility, improves search engine rankings, and attracts more foot traffic or website visitors. Without these reviews, businesses in Turks and Caicos may seem less trustworthy or established, causing potential customers to turn to competitors with stronger online presences.
How TurksCaicos Reviews Cards Can Help
TurksCaicos Reviews Cards offers a smart solution to this challenge. These NFC-enabled cards allow business owners to effortlessly collect reviews by tapping the card to a customer’s phone, directing them instantly to the Google review page. This makes it much easier for customers to leave feedback right after their experience, when the details are fresh in their minds. Here’s how these cards specifically address the issue:
1. Convenience and Ease: Customers don’t need to search for the business online to leave a review. A quick tap brings them directly to the review page, simplifying the process.
2. Increased Review Volume: The more reviews a business accumulates, the more credible and attractive it becomes to potential customers. An NFC card makes the process more seamless, encouraging a greater number of customers to share their feedback.
3. Enhanced Visibility and Trust: With more positive Google reviews, businesses in Turks and Caicos can rank higher in local search results, capturing the attention of tourists and locals who rely on Google for recommendations.
4. Real-Time Feedback: Business owners get instant feedback, allowing them to address any issues immediately and improve their service, which in turn can generate even more positive reviews.
By adopting TurksCaicos Reviews Cards, local businesses can strengthen their online reputation, become more competitive, and ultimately boost sales. This tool can be a game-changer for customer engagement and local brand awareness in Turks and Caicos.
Is there anywhere on Providenciales to rent a motorcycle, maybe a dirtbike? I've tried searching but the closest I've found are scooters and maybe ebikes. Any info would be appreciated, even if it's to say that there are no such rentals available!
We are going to be staying there in February, should we rent snorkels or buy them before we fly out? Staying in an Airbnb on Long Bay.
My husband and I are staying on Chalk Sound and would like to spend a few hours on Grace Bay. Does anyone know where I can find a chair and umbrella rental?
My wife and I are headed to Sailrock for 4 days at the end of January. I have done a good bit of research on Reddit and other forums on the activities and can't decide where to spend my time. We both like to relax but I enjoy moving around. I'm thinking sailing and the boat tour. Any tips/recommendations? Has anyone done the fishing?
