Question for people who own pure tungsten items

I'm considering the development of simple tungsten products but I am still learning about its properties. I'm about to order some pieces to test these questions but I thought I'd go ahead and ask too.

Have you damaged any pieces by dropping them? Depending exactly how its formed and alloyed tungsten is supposed to be fairly brittle, sometimes compared to glass. For example little tungsten sticks are used in TIG welding, some alloyed ones can be bent at angles and others can become deeply splintered just by snapping them into smaller pieces. Like the piece looks fine but it has a split down its length. I'm concerned the product would be too easy to chip or crack when dropped. Ive seen pure tungsten items alternately labeled as brittle and also having a ductility similar to steel, so I'm not sure what to believe anymore.

I'm also wondering what kind of patina development or oxidation you have seen, especially from normal handling. All the papers say it needs quite a bit of heat to readily oxidize but I suspect that it will still happen slowly but significantly under normal conditions.

Best tungsten cube size?

Which is the best size for a tungsten cube to showcase its density? What about best size to handle/play with at a desk?

I think the smaller cubes may not be an impressive enough weight for that wow factor.

15mm cube is ~65g

20mm is ~155g

25mm is ~300g

30mm is ~520g

38mm is ~1kg

I never had a cube, or played with one.

I want to get one and my intution tells me that probably 20mm cube is best for playing with, and 30-38mm is what you want for that wow factor when it comes to its weight.

What do you guys think? Is there a best size to get?

Best place to buy affordable 1.5 inch tungsten cubes.

yo! im trying to get my first tungsten cube but don't want to spend 200 DOLLARS on it IT. does anybody got an affordable option? I saw some for 75 dollars on Alibaba but im not sure if it's good. And the shipping probably outweighs it tenfold.

2nd Hand Scams (Satire)

I'm looking at buying a cube 2nd hand, but im worried I might not get what I paid for. After confirming measurements, and weight, everything looks proper. Any tips so that I don't accidentally buy a tungsten plated cube with a gold core. Could you imagine the egg on my face when I pass the cube on to my kids, and we do a core drill one day, but only yellow shavings come out!?

Looking for 2.5 inch tungsten cube.

Can anyone recommend where I can get a 2.5 inch tungsten cube for under 500 USD? I can be from anywhere but I would prefer a good alibaba seller. must be at least 95% tungsten, but the higher the better. Thank you!

How is tungsten shaped?

I know it has the highest melting point, besides carbon, but the 2 elements combine so a graphite crucible wouldnt work, would it?. Its super scratch resistant, so I would assume you cant use a lathe on it. Is it melted and casted? Induction?

Which company do you all recommend

Recently got a 1” cube from MTS but upon reading reviews in various comment sections I’ve become dubious if my cube is truly 99.95% tungsten or something more…sinister.

I am looking to get a 1.5” cube. The 1” is great but I feel I need something slightly heavier. Which company would you guys recommend for a 1.5” cube?

Is tungsten + coffee poisonous?

I have an idea to cool down my coffee faster - freeze a tungsten cube and put it in the pot while the coffee is brewing. BUT, idk if this will make it explode or kill me or something. Thoughts?

2in vs 2.5 inch cube?

Debating on wether to buy a 2 in or 2.5 in cube, I enjoying playing with something in my hand while I hand, don’t know if 2.5 inches is overkill.

a small cube collection

finally i got some tungsten cubes, been wanting one for at least 6 years.
tried ordering to Europe, found a few web sites all failed, ordering directly from manufacturer got them in days....
Now i have 1cm, 0.5", 1", 1.5", 2", 2.5". and a 1.5" aluminium cube for comparison.
boy are these things fun, and excellent machining finish.
i would say that 1" cube is the nice entry cube, light enough to handle and fiddle around with in your hand. 1.5" is next up, but starting to be too heavy to handle, anything larger is just for display or weight training.... door stops, or generally weight things down.
but i will say that i you want lighter cubes do not buy the smaller ones like i did, buy a dice set instead. those have at least more purposes, and are not too light to feel dense(dice are 1.6cm).

Be careful dropping these things, only a few inches height will mark the floor.....

Cheap but heavy tungsten with delivery to czechia?

I want to get a tungsten cube, around the 1 inch size. I want it to be quite pure but still cheap (including delivery). What are some sites I can just click buy, not notify them first?

Got a whole slab of tungsten of a parts plane they destroyed

Got the pleasure of keeping it, don’t have the time to cut it. I think I wanna sell it as a whole. It’s looks like 1.5ft long x 7inch wide. Any takers?

Where to buy a handsome 1kg tungsten cube in EU?

As in title I would love to get myself one of those bad boys, question being is amazon/ebay the only option? I wish to get it from a solid and credible source, straight from manufacturer if possible, but for central Europe all I see are a shop or two from America, with(for obvious reasons) pretty wild shipping costs and amazon/ebay listings.
Half don't want to get scammed, half don't want to add even more to Jeff's already bloated account.
I'll gladly accept any tips in this regard.
