Anyone else feel this? Although I don't mind her prewritten story telling, I cringe when at her interviews. I think Dateline could do better.
Does anyone listen to Dark Topic and know what happened with Deadbug?
I rejoined DTs Patreon and noticed there were no “From the bottom down” episodes on either Jacks or Deadbugs Patreon’s and the only post I found on DTs Facebook group was something about how Deadbug talked shit about Kent & there was more info in the featured posts but they must’ve been deleted at some point.
Anyone have any info? This nosy bitch needs to know…
Made by Small Town Dicks crew, narrated by Yardley and best long form I've listened to for a long time. Not a huge STDs fan, but I really recommend this one.
I love this ‘hunting down faceless internet perpetrators’ investigative style of podcast. Multiple episodes about the one case ideally.
Would love other recommendations if you have them?
I also love scam and catfish etc ones. Not wrapped around missing people or murder cases ideally.
I loved things like:
Scamanda Do you know Mordechai Snowball season 1 That one by The Australian about that older ish romance scam artist (forgot the name) Missing Crypto Queen Sweet Bobby Bed of Lies Some seasons of Something Was Wrong (When Tiffany isn’t being overpowering/focussed on self importance) Chameleon The Opportunist (before it got sold it was my favourite, now I don’t listen) Pretend The Stalker Smokescreen Criminal and Swindled obvs The thing about Pam
Etc etc.
Thank you in advance everyone, I love this subreddit so much.
I listened to a true crime podcast that I don't remember the name of. It was about a DA or somebody working in that kind of job that was killed in a parking lot at night. I'm pretty sure it was early-ish 80s. It was several episodes narrated by one male who may have other podcasts as an investigative journalist. It was very detailed and several very full episodes. I think it was unsolved. Any help is appreciated ty!
Bear Brook Season 1: Anyone have images/links/access to the original post that helped Becky track down families looking for the girls? I’m looking for the messages from 2000 until 2018. Thank you.
I enjoy true crime podcasts. I'm looking for some new shows to listen to. I like Suffer The Little Children, the Misery Machine, Dreading, etc. I need recommendations for others. What's your favorite and why?
TIA
Any good podcast recommendations about stalkers or stalking in general?
Maybe it’s just me. I’ve noticed that many of True Crime podcasts that I’ve listened to for years aren’t posting much. I’m wondering if they feel like the genre is too saturated now? Or maybe it’s burn out? All valid reasons but hopefully they know that they are missed. Examples being Trace Evidence, Southern Fried True Crime, Court Junkie (not crime junkie).
I've always "enjoyed" (in quotations because it feels disrespectful to describe the experience of listening to another person's trauma as enjoyment, but I don't know what other word to use) Dateline because of its high production values and compelling hosts.
But I just can't get over the irresponsible way that it continues to frame a person's refusal to speak to the police as something that an innocent person would not do. In this day and age, with all the information we have about false confessions and police corruption, it's retrograde to continue to cast suspicion over people for refusing to speak to police and, especially, for getting an attorney. Just today, I listened to a new episode of the Dateline podcast where Andrea Canning asked the detective whether it was suspicious that a person of interest had an attorney when questioned by police.
It's hard to educate people that they should NEVER speak to the police without an attorney, innocent or not, when programs with the reach of Dateline spread this message.
Wow.
Has anyone listened to this episode yet? I highly recommend this season.
Been listening to Canadian True Crime, but seem to have run out of episodes. It’s a great show and she does a great job of anyone hasn’t tried listening. Does anyone have any good recommendations for good Canadian True Crime podcast? Preferably single narrator not too annoying.
I can’t stop thinking about this episode. The SAME two children were playing with both of the kids when they were last seen and the kids were interviewed and deemed to have no important info. That seems insane doesn’t it? I would kill to know if they’ve followed up with them as adults.
Ok, so I think it was a True Crime All The Time or their alter ego podcast Unsolved'. The guys were plating voicemails they received at the end of the show. A fella called in with a message that was a bit rambling and strange. He had a southern American accent and seemed a bit upset . He mentioned something along the lines of " porky"s butthole" . No I'm not joking lol.does anyone remember this at all? Please help!
Really saddened that they got canceled so suddenly. I’m really hoping either the narrators have something new, or at the very least, there’s a replacement podcast.
Hi all I was wondering if the BBC’s paradise is worth a listen? I’m in a slump feel like I’ve listen too literally everything. TY.
Hunting Warhead, SKS, Your Own Backyard, Cold S1, Finding Cleo, all of In the Dark, S-town, Teacher’s Pet, Who Killed Emma?, Bear Brook S1..
Any time I read threads of those looking for a gold standard non-sensationalist TC podcast (no Payne Lindsey pls), those listed above fill the thread. I’ve listened to them all, where do I go next??
Good night nurse, I got about 6 minutes into this podcast. Two guys taking turns reading sentences from a script. Back and forth. Back and forth. Back and forth. You do that sentence. Now, you do that sentence. Now you do that sentence. And then he goes....and then he goes. STOP IT! Why do podcasts do this? Pick a narrator! One narrator!
You have to tell me how it ends, guys, because I can't deal with this.
Hi everyone,
I normally listen to podcasts while doing chores at home, so I'm a bit unable to concentrate 100% on what I'm listening to. Recently, I tried MrBallen's but I found it to be too fast-paced and I couldn't keep up. I experience more brain fog than the average person, which really frustrates me.
I'm not necessarily looking for long stories (aka lots of episodes with extensive investigations), although that would also be fine.
I'm actually seeking podcasts where the hosts talk slower so I don't miss so many details.
I already listened to some of the well-beloved classics such as Your Own Backyard, Bear Brooks, Proof, Cold, The Teacher's Pet, In the Dark, Someone Knows Something, Serial S1, and Accused.
Thank you kindly for any suggestions :)
Just starting and would like some shocking episode recommendations 🙏
I thought I would share a podcast that I have just finished on BBC Sounds. Assume nothing had lots of series but I’ve just finished the above one and it was so moving and although not your usual true crime, it is still about criminal acts.
Trigger warning it’s is about the mother and baby homes in Ireland and also discusses euthanasia and baby loss so please take care if you choose to listen, I was utterly moved by this podcast, it was done with such care and love for Martin and all involved in this story ❤️
Kristin Smart is a name i recognise, I know about her disappearance and the unfairness of it all but never really sat down and read the details . But I was looking for a podcast that followed a story for a season ,like a story and I read here about Your Own Backyard and I've listened to a few episodes.
Such a sad sad case and coming from Bear Brook I am really hit hard with these cases.
What cases are the ones you use to judge if a true crime podcast is any good? I tend to listen to episodes of new podcasts about cases I’m knowledgable about from my research, to see if the podcast recycles a false narrative/facts or exaggerates.
For example, Kendrick Johnson is a big one I look for - anyone who thinks it was anything other than accidental is not worth listening to.
What are yours?
Does anyone know where I can find more details about Jake's trial? The podcast doesn't really cover the prosecution's case and Jake's defense. I know the podcast focuses on Josh's testimony as the reason that Jake (and Ty) were convicted, but I would honestly be shocked if that was literally the only evidence against them. I'n not suggesting at all that the prosecution had a strong case; just that I'm sure there was more than just Josh's testimony, however flimsy the evidence was.
Also, does anyone know how competent (or incompetent) Jake's defense was?
Thanks in advance!
Today's Casefile was wild, horrible and terrifying. First time I have ever pulled my earbuds out, as I just couldn't listen. Still not sure if he went through with it, I am thinking no as no repercussions were ever mentioned. If you have listened, and know what I am talking about, please give me a yes or no.
So, I've been binging Who's Afraid of LaDonna Humphrey and so far I like the reporting and especially how the producers go back and re examine Missy Witt's case. One thing that's bugging me is Javier's comparisons to LaDonna being similar to a cult leader because of her sociopathic tendencies and manipulative scheming. It feels like overkill to me. Nearly every conartist on these series isn't a cult leader or cult-y. It just feels so simplistic. And I listened to another episode about the doula scam Kaitlin girl and the same thread was mentioned. Like, come on, that cannot be your go to comparison with everyone. End rant.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but I’m quite positive there has not been an episode discussing the disappearance of Bryce.
Has she ever mentioned why she has not featured Bryce? Or why she will never cover his disappearance? I only ask, as it had me wondering if she has tried to contact family and they possibly declined to speak (totally within their right) or possibly did not consent to being covered at all…
I know Sarah does her due diligence and reaches out to family before covering a particular victim, and generally has a very high standard when it comes to the ethics involved in a particular case. Without permission she will not cover a case out of respect for the victim and their family (that is, unless, family members are under investigation).
Maybe it could also be a personal choice for her to not cover his case, given the more circulated theories (based mainly on speculation) that he may have willingly gone “missing” and she wants to respect his privacy if she had reason to believe this general theory, which if so, would love to hear her thoughts even if it’s not in the form of an episode…
I could also be reading way into it and she just has yet to cover his case for unrelated reasons, but it did intrigue me and made me wonder if there was more to it. Of all the “missing” persons cases out there, Bryce’s story is one that I still hold belief that he is still alive and out there. And although somewhat of a sensationalized case, is one of the only cases that I believe holds some weight, unlike conspiracies we see in similar cases such as Maura Murray, Amy Lynn Bradley, Brian Shaffer, just to name a few.
What do people recommend for podcast apps? As I used to use a few different ones but noticed that quite a few of my favourites stopped posting/uploading there so I've been trying to find a new one since. I like an app where I can set it to play all episodes and ideally play at random but I will take just an app with a good selection. Also any recommendations for true crime pods that are a different case each episode and ideally a male single host, I listen to them as I fall asleep and it seems to be the best combination for me. Thank you jn advance for any replies, I don't respond as much as I would like to but I do check comments and responses. Xxx
Is there a way to listen to all of Serial without paying for a NYT subscription? I just finished S-Town, but only bc the locked episodes were available on their own website.
Edit: I know many of y'all are suggesting Spotify. That's what I use. However, only a couple episodes are available. The rest are locked.
Available on Podbean!
I'm looking for a good deep dive case to fill the 5 hour road trip ahead of me tomorrow. I think my favorite deep dive cases have been Seeking Warhead & Children in the Pictures. Casefile's coverage of the Silk Road was just as good.
I've been kind of tuned out of podcasts lately. So, what do you recommend?
