What does the Bible and Church say about the nuclear threat, should we seek a safe place, how to make a decision?

On May 6, 2024, Russia announced non-strategic nuclear weapons exercises. The Russian Security Council is threatening to strike Britain, where I live now.

I'm scared. And I began to learn about countries that were safe in case of nuclear war.

The further from the epicenter of the explosion, the more radiation particles are scattered. Thus, I considered all parts of the earth that are distant from Russia, the USA, the UK, and Israel.

And I see that there are safe places in case of nuclear war, but they are not safe in themselves!

South America has a high incidence rate;

Southeast and east Asia has high levels of seismic activity;

Australia and New Zealand are very expensive.

But as a Christian, I would like to do what God wants. And as far as I know, there is nothing in the Bible about nuclear war.

Please tell me how to make a decision in such a situation as a Christian?

Why war is happening in Israel, and why antisemitism is on the rise

Why war in Israel is happening

Zechariah 12:9 And in that day I will set about to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem.

Zechariah 12:3 It will come about in that day that I will make Jerusalem a heavy stone for all the peoples; all who lift it will be severely injured. And all the nations of the earth will be gathered against it. Zechariah 12:4 In that day," declares the Lord, "I will strike every horse with bewilderment and his rider with madness. But I will watch over the house of Judah, while I strike every horse of the peoples with blindness. Zechariah 12:5 Then the clans of Judah will say in their hearts, 'A strong support for us are the inhabitants of Jerusalem through the Lord of hosts, their God.' Zechariah 12:6 "In that day I will make the clans of Judah like a firepot among pieces of wood and a flaming torch among sheaves, so they will consume on the right hand and on the left all the surrounding peoples, while the inhabitants of Jerusalem again dwell on their own sites in Jerusalem.

This is a spiritual war manifesting in the physical world, Satan will send all his armies against Jerusalem because it is the city of the great king Yeshua. Jerusalem.

Jeremiah 16:16 "Behold, I am going to send for many fishermen," declares the Lord, "and they will fish for them; and afterwards I will send for many hunters, and they will hunt them from every mountain and every hill and from the clefts of the rocks.

This verse explains all the antisemitism in the world, it’s a tool to gather Israel back to the land. I suggest reading the whole chapter of the next passage that explains why this Middle East insanity is happening.

Ezekiel 38:4 I will turn you about and put hooks into your jaws, and I will bring you out, and all your army, horses and horsemen, all of them splendidly attired, a great company with buckler and shield, all of them wielding swords; Ezekiel 38:5 Persia, Ethiopia and Put with them, all of them with shield and helmet; Ezekiel 38:6 Gomer with all its troops; Beth-togarmah from the remote parts of the north with all its troops-many peoples with you. Ezekiel 38:7 "Be prepared, and prepare yourself, you and all your companies that are assembled about you, and be a guard for them. Ezekiel 38:8 After many days you will be summoned; in the latter years you will come into the land that is restored from the sword, whose inhabitants have been gathered from many nations to the mountains of Israel which had been a continual waste; but its people were brought out from the nations, and they are living securely, all of them. Ezekiel 38:16 and you will come up against My people Israel like a cloud to cover the land. It shall come about in the last days that I will bring you against My land, so that the nations may know Me when I am sanctified through you before their eyes, O Gog."

Whose side are you on… MTG or Speaker Mike Johnson?

I don’t follow politics super closely since they seem so messy and irrelevant to the wishes of individual citizens.

The incident of waving the Ukrainian flags on the House floor has gotten my attention, and I’m interested in the perspective r/TrueChristian has on it.

  1. Do you support taxes going to Ukraine?
  2. Do you think the waving of the Ukrainian flag was inappropriate?
  3. Although she’s a popular figure for a very conservative position, does MTG have a Christian “voice?”
  4. Although Mike Johnson says his values are directly align with The Bible, do you think he represents a true Christian authority?

I genuinely don’t know much about MTG or how Mike Johnson has acted in his role. AFAIK, MTG showcases Christian values just as well as Trump does. I’m aware that the speaker made a bold claim that he will represent Christianity, but I’m unsure how closely tied this is to the controversy of the Christian nationalism conversation. Apparently MTG thinks he’s a saboteur of the Republicans’ interests.

This isn’t a trick question or anything, I’m truly ignorant of the reality of this situation and how people apparently want the speaker ousted. I’m confused as to where the division is, and I’m wondering if the conservatives aren’t actually so attached to Christianity, or if Johnson is just doing a bad job. I thought that serious Christians would be able to provide the best insight, so that’s why I’m asking here.

Should Christians be involved in politics?

It is an election year, and this is said to be the most important election year in many years. We will elect new senators, congressmen, and a new president, along with other minor positions. So, should Christians be involved or participate, not only in voting, but also in organizations that push certain Christian agendas?

Since trump is the only choice for catholics and Christians, who do you think the best choice for VP is?

Since trump is the only choice for catholics and Christians, who do you think the best choice for VP is?

My order is -A Democrat that borders on sane ( mostly to try and corral some of the more common sense democrats who cannot see themselves voting republican) IE Kennedy

  • A black candidate, Ben Carson? I actually liked him for president in 16 until it was clear he wasn't going to win.

  • A female ( to corral the females who vote with their emotions not their mind) Tulsi could be the choice here as she has renounced being a Democrat.

I also liked Noem, but with her marital scandal I am not sure that is smart.

Thoughts?

It has been about 20 years since the March Pogrom of Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija

In less than 72 hours, 35 churches and monasteries were set on fire, many of which date back to the 14th century or even further away in history, which represents an irretrievable loss for the mankind. Dozens of people were killed. Several thousand were wounded. Thousands of houses and shops were leveled to the ground. More than 4,000 Kosovo Serbs were expelled from their homes.

Vuk Jeremić

The target was Serbian people, Serbian property, monuments and shrines of the Serbian Orthodox Church. 19 people were killed and 4,012 Serbs were expelled, 6 cities and 9 villages were ethnically cleansed, 935 Serbian houses and 10 public facilities (schools, health centers, post ) were destroyed, burned or severely damaged. The target of the extremists was the spiritual legacy and the heritage of the Serbian people. 35 religious buildings, including 18 monuments of culture, were destroyed, burned or seriously damaged.

Devič Monastery and the monk quarters of the Monastery of the Holy Archangels near Prizren were torn down to the ground, while the Church of Our Lady of Ljeviš from the 14th century and the Church of St. George from the 16th century were burned. The Orthodox Seminary of Prizren and the Episcopal seat in Prizren were also destroyed, Serbian cemeteries desecrated. More than 10,000 valuable frescoes, icons, chalices, vestments and other religious relics, as well as baptism, marriage and death certificates which testify about the centuries of existence of the Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija were missing or damaged.

The reason for the pogrom was a false report of the Albanian media in which the Serbs were accused of forcing six ethnic Albanian boys from the village Čabar near Zubin Potok to cross the Ibar river, on which occasion three of them drowned. Over 20,000 members of the international forces weren’t ready or simply didn’t want to prevent the ethnic violence against the Serbs. It was the second major pogrom that the Albanians committed in “peacetime” since the province was put under the United Nations protectorate. Up to this day, not a single main actor from the political structures or the former KLA has been held responsible for these crimes.

What are the top two issues you’re focusing on this election and why?

Most voters have core issues that they care about more than others. Some have multiple. And some just vote without understanding any of it. What are your two biggest issues this election season, and how has scripture shaped your views on them? Why are they your biggest issues?

(Totally fine if you have more than two, but I’m curious to see what we Christians find most important when picking the leader)

How does your eschatology influence your politics?

Or does it? Are there any political issues that you feel tie directly into your view of last things on earth? Conversely, have modern politics helped shape or change your view of eschatology?

Trump vs Biden

Figured I’d try to get something here going since we’re just going to push more and more political convos here before too long from the main sub.

For Americans here, how are you using scripture to discern who to vote for this time around? Please use some scripture to back up your position. I’d love to hear what both sides have to say on this. Including from those on the fence.

Keep in mind that while we are more lenient here, blatant disrespect will not be tolerated. Nor will gatekeeping the Christian faith based on politics (doctrine is a different story).

Communism = Antithetical to Christianity (cont’d)

https://www.reddit.com/r/TrueChristian/s/1lA1DZ75X7

“Communism is intrinsically wrong, and no one who would save Christian civilization may collaborate with it in any undertaking whatsoever” (58).

To say that something is intrinsically wrong means that it is never permissible under any circumstances. War can become wrong if it is waged unjustly, but genocide is wrong because it is always wrong to violate an innocent person’s right to life. Likewise, capitalism can become wrong if it allows evils like wage-theft to take place, but it’s not always intrinsically wrong.

Communism, on the other hand, is wrong by its very nature because it violates a person’s right to private property. Instead of respecting people’s freedom to form families and associations for their good, socialists “hold that men are obliged, with respect to the producing of goods, to surrender and subject themselves entirely to society.”

The Gates of Hell

Was Jesus prophesying about this current age?

Is it just me, or do you see it?

“And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.”

IVF and Alabama

In the US, many laws banning abortion were written at a time when Roe showed no signs of being overturned, and thus were mostly political virtue signaling. Critics warned that such laws may have unintended consequences, and this is exactly what happened recently in Alabama. In a civil court case where several couples were suing an IVF (in vitro fertilization) clinic for the inadvertent destruction of several embryos, the Alabama Supreme Court ruled that the embryos were legally children and thus the clinics were liable for negligence toward minors. The result was an immediate halt on all IVF services in the state, as doctors and medical staff grappled with their sudden legal vulnerability. In response, just this past week Alabama's legislature passed a bill to grant civil and criminal immunity to IVF clinics.

Politically, the issue is messy. The repeal of abortion protections is already unpopular in the United States, with Democrats promising to make it a central issue in this year's election. A ban on IVF would be even more detested and most Republican politicians, including presumptive presidential nominee Donald Trump, quickly distanced themselves from the ruling and declared their support for IVF.

The incident exposes a fault line in the Christian pro-life movement. As a culture that values life and the creation of it, many Christians have turned to IVF when conventional means of pregnancy failed. However, the procedure often results in the loss of multiple embryos- unacceptable to those who see both a fertilized egg in a mother's womb and a fertilized egg in a freezer as unique individuals created in the image of God and worthy of protection.

How do you feel about the issue?

Trying to understand the rise of wokeness

I've been thinking a lot about wokism lately. For a long time the actual motivations of its sincere proponents baffled me, but maybe I'm finally on to something. If I were to define wokism, it'd be: "Going to ridiculous extremes to selectively correct perceived unfairness."

I think wokeness is attractive because:

  1. It grants a false sense of atonement by correcting "injustice."
  2. It grants a false sense of righteousness for the same reason.
  3. Placing oneself in a position to reverse perceived unfairness grants power.
  4. It easily allows removing others from power, even previous allies, who slightly disagree with the selectively chosen morality.

I think it also brings in people for other reasons:

  1. Weak-minded women and men who don't want to be called bigots.
  2. Some perverts who want to normalize all types of sexuality. If we had Epstein's list it'd be interesting to see whether those people overlap with the billionaires who donate 100's of millions to LGBT causes.

The ultimate root seems to be rejecting the morality and the commission God gave us, and building our own replacements to fill the void it leaves.

Am I off the mark on this? Are there others I should read who have done a better analysis? Please comment.

Edit: Many here seem to still be struggling with what I mean by wokeness. One of many examples would be Lia Thomas (a biological male) being allowed to compete against female swimmers and appear before them naked in their locker room. The woke thinking behind this seems to be that since Thomas wants to be a woman, it's unfair to exclude him from women's sports and changing rooms.

I am a Christian that won't pick a side regarding Israel and Palestine. Please be civil

This isn't a pro Palestine or a Pro Israel post. It's a cry for empathy for the innocent on both sides. It's a message for those that feel they should pick a side in the name of Jesus Christ. It's a message to those who may see all Christians as being in support of this war, not all of us are. We are horrified at the atrocities as well.

Why do many Christians in the USA support Israel instead of showing empathy for the dead on both sides? Do they realize that the war is between Israel Zionist and Palestinian Hamas, both of which deny Christ, and that there are Palestinian Christians and Israelite Christians (men, women and children) that are included in the casualties of this war?

That by being a Christian and supporting a side is not the answer as both factions in control are in the wrong, that both factions are killing Innocents, that they both deny Jesus Christ? The body of Christ is the new Israel, there is no Jew or Gentile in Christ, and Christ is the only way to the Father.

Why would I care to bring up a topic that is controversial such as this, where people are unlikely to change their minds? If you know me, you know that since I submitted my life to Christ, I have had a burning fire in my heart for spreading the Gospel with love to the willing.

It's hard to find willing people when they see many Christians supporting the bombings on another country, in the name of God. They assume we all support it. It leaves a bad taste in their mouth regarding Christians supporting Israel when they see dead babies. It does the same to me. Seeing our govetnment use our tax dollars to send arsenal to fuel this is sickening.

Stop blindly following your political leaders, news stations and brick and mortar church (if they are telling you to be pro Israel.) Humble yourself if you're ignorant, it is what I had to do, and look into these things yourself. Both sides need Jesus, and we should be praying for mercy on all people, regardless of their faith or lack thereof.

Why do some say there is no Rapture?

These days it is not unusual to hear someone say that there is no such thing as the Rapture. Such people could edify (enlighten / teach) the church by simply explaining what they mean by the term “rapture” – instead, they often seem satisfied to spread confusion. What many of them are actually talking about is the “secret, end-time, pre-tribulation, all-fly-away” rapture; a false teaching popular among American evangelicals. Even though the pre-tribulation rapture is not taught anywhere in the BIBLE, many modern christians believe that they are chosen to escape all of GOD’s coming judgments on the world. (Tribulation refers to a series of disasters outlined in the BIBLE that signal the end of the world as we know it, i.e., the apocalypse.)

What the BIBLE does teach is the resurrection of the righteous dead at JESUS’ second coming. It says the “dead in CHRIST shall rise up and any righteous Christians who happen to still be alive at that time will also be caught up in the air with them to be with JESUS. 1 Thes 4:13-17

Note that the emphasis of the Gospel message is on eternal salvation; the promise of resurrection after death. The rapture of the living at the second coming is just an inevitable consequence of the general resurrection of all who are worthy to be saved.

The word “rapture”

One group that denies the rapture does so because the word “rapture” does not appear in traditional English BIBLE translations (KJV, etc.). This is a pointless and deceptive argument because the apostle Paul originally wrote in Greek. He used the Greek word, “harpazo,” which means to “seize by force, to catch up, or snatch away” to describe what happens to living Christians at the second coming. Early Latin BIBLES translated harpazo as “rapio/raptus/rapturo” – which also means to be taken by force. From the Latin rapturo, we get the English phrase: “caught up,” and the word rapture which is commonly used to describe the scenario at 1 Thes 4:17.

JESUS said that the second coming and the gathering of the elect (the saved obedient Christians) occurs after the great tribulation. Mat 24:21-31, 1 Cor.15:51-52 The pre-tribulation rapture is not in the BIBLE but the “catching up in the air,” the rapture of the living saints at the same time as the resurrection, certainly is.

Other significant groups that dismiss the rapture are preterists / dominionists / post millennialists. Their false doctrines cause them to twist the scripture to support their presupposition that all end-time scenarios in Bible prophesy must have happened in the past – in or before 70 AD – when the Romans destroyed Jerusalem. They want to believe that we are currently in the “thousand-year reign,” i.e., Christ’s millennial kingdom on earth, to support their ludicrous claim that white American christians have been appointed to take political control and rule the world for JESUS. Understand that JESUS consistently rebuked HIS disciples for suggesting that HIS kingdom had anything to do with seeking worldly political dominion.

Conclusions

Focusing on the rapture as a way to escape the judgement of the world is missing the point. We were put here to be tested and JESUS has challenged us to overcome sinfulness in order to be saved. Rev 2:7, 1726 ; 3:51221  Aside from those who fall away when they realize that there is no pre-trib rapture, it could be said that the timing of the rapture isn’t really that important. Why? Because every person must still be spiritually ready to face their own personal judgement day. Being alive at the time of the rapture is no guarantee of salvation, particularly for those who have not produced fruit worthy of repentance; those living in sin who have allowed themselves to be convinced that mere acceptance of JESUS has given them the right to claim eternal salvation. (OSAS)

"…for the whole time of your faith will not profit you, if ye be not made perfect in the last time.  …in the last days false prophets and corrupters shall be multiplied, and the sheep shall be turned into wolves, and love shall be turned into hate…" Didache (1st Century letter from the Apostles)

Don’t Let Politics Hinder the Gospel

For I say, through the grace given to me, to everyone who is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think soberly, as God has dealt to each one a measure of faith. - Romans 12:3

God, in the riches of His mercy and grace has called us out of the dark and into the light of Christ Jesus. We are stewards of His grace, not His wrath, for vengeance belongs to God. The enemy wants to use the sins of the world and the righteousness of Christ that is within us against us, as a means to cause us to be proud stone-throwers.

We cannot become like the Pharisees, for they were rejected, and the heathen were called to provoke Israel to jealousy. Nor can we become weak and ineffectual stewards of the truth that is in scripture; that we must forsake sin and live for Christ instead (II Timothy 2:19). We must remember that we "gentiles" were heathens too, lest we allow pride and hatred to grow in our hearts.

Beloved, I beseech you, by the grace of God:

Don't let the yeast of conservatives and right-wing media turn you into a Pharisee. (John 8:7)

Neither let the yeast of modern churchianity corrupt sound doctrine. (II Peter 2:1-3)

We should be bold like lions, but gentle like sheep for their sake, and we can only do this by walking in the Spirit.

Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor what is evil. Cling to what is good. Be kindly affectionate to one another with brotherly love, in honor giving preference to one another; not lagging in diligence, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord; rejoicing in hope, patient in tribulation, continuing steadfastly in prayer; distributing to the needs of the saints, given to hospitality.

Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. Rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep. Be of the same mind toward one another. Do not set your mind on high things, but associate with the humble. Do not be wise in your own opinion.

Repay no one evil for evil. Have regard for good things in the sight of all men. If it is possible, as much as depends on you, live peaceably with all men. Beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but rather give place to wrath; for it is written, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says the Lord. Therefore

“If your enemy is hungry, feed him;

If he is thirsty, give him a drink;

For in so doing you will heap coals of fire on his head.”

Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. - Romans 12:9-21

End Discrimination

Yes I know it’s prophesied that we would be discriminated against, but christianity is the only religion that gets mocked on tv. They sexualize scriptures and reinforce negative stereotypes about Christianity and we roll over and show our belly because Jesus said this was going to happen. But that doesn’t mean we should stand by, smile and wave as it happens. Imagine if a modern tv show mocked buhda or muhammad, society would lose their mind. “All religion should be respected, unless it’s Christianity.” That is the view of modern culture. I think just because it is prophesy doesn’t mean we shouldn’t be outspoken about our feelings of Hollywood’s anti christian propaganda. It’s offensive and it’s discrimination, and it’s time we let OUR voices be heard. Enough is enough. We need to all write to our representatives and demand that anti Christian episodes from popular tv shows like Family Guy, Rick and Morty, always sunny, American Dad, Ted and endless others be censored. I’m not saying every single Christian joke should be removed, but all of these aforementioned shows have episodes that include obscene depictions of the messiah or include harmful and degrading stereotypes. Repost, share your opinions, go to every single social media you have, reach out to your elected officials, and let OUR voices be heard! It’s time for another great revival. It’s time to remind the world we the Bible is the voice of reason and love during a period of time when we need it most, and that starts with protecting ourselves from Hollywood.

Political Statements in Church

Posted this is/TrueChristian but it got removed.

I strongly disagree with churches making political statements online and/or having sermons making political statements, especially on things that are generally hot topics.

And it’s on both sides for me. A church in my community had a sermon stating that Israel had a right to Palestinian land. But I also don’t like when churches hang Pride flags outside of the church.

Even political statements and opinions that I agree with I wouldn’t want a church to make a sermon about. Because church isn’t a place for political statements, especially ones that are opinions and not an issue of salvation.

Church is meant to be a place where a community of believers can connect, bring others to Christ, and worship the Lord, regardless of political beliefs. Using the spiritual power that a pastor has to insist on a specific political opinion at the pulpit is, in my opinion, a gross miss-use of their position.

In the end, God will be the one to judge us, not the individuals around us, and we truly don’t know with 100% certainty what God wants us to believe when it comes to certain political arguments dealing with modern issues.

However, we do know that he wants us to love God and to love our neighbor as ourself in our actions, prayers, and find peace, even with our enemies.

Because of this, it’s been hard for me to find a church that strays away from political statements, and it’s making things difficult.

Quality theological debates about the Israeli state?

My family follows the doctrine of the Israeli state being a prophecy we can’t interfere with. They hand-wave away any variety of humans rights abuses, apartheid policies, intentional assassination of journalists and targeted bombing of nonprofit organizations in Gaza. They simply believe we, as Christians, cannot interfere with Israel’s plans.

It all started with a small Bible study they went to. They watched YouTube videos with the class where IDF soldiers presented a heavily skewed interpretation of history. My parents drank the whole Evangelical Zionist koolaid, visiting Israel, getting baptized in the Jordan, etc. etc. and the foundation of their worldview was set.

My family see the current conflict and everything preceding it as a theologically justified, no-holds-barred slugfest in which Israel will prevail, human dignity be damned. I am trying to turn them around, but their stance is firm and I have to take the approach of Biblical doctrine to make any meaningful progress.

Are there preachers out there, or even Christian academics that debate this topic from both sides I can study and understand?

Israel v Palestine Issue

Basically I am on Instagram a lot and so are people my age.

Everyone is Pro Palestine. Well I watched a video outlining the history between the 2 States starting with the 1920 Nebi Musa Riots, and TLDR: since then Palestine has been fighting with Jewish State and refuse to live in PEACE

Well I said that it’s looking Pro Israel after I saw how Palestine just keeps fighting with Israel and Hamas wants to destroy Israel. What is Israel supposed to do!

And then people I know are saying I need to do more research. But nobody is answering me when I say what should I research? So I don’t know what to do now.

Why are you what you are and for what reasons? Please list history events. Or whatever helped you believe that what you believe in is correct and right. Because I just saw all the dying people in Palestine and basically it made me sad and distraught so I was Pro Palestine.

But then I watched the history video and it truthfully explains the situation in my eyes. And it’s looking like Israel just wants to live in the Middle East but there are mostly Muslims that want to eradicate them.

But people are saying “Ohh that’s conservative.” I don’t care the political leanings, I want to know what HAPPENED.
