Catholic student researcher interested in your help :)

Hello,

I am a masters’ student at the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven in Belgium attempting to conduct research into and sociological reflection on the experience of Catholics as users of the internet. I would be very grateful to anyone who could respond to the question below, which forms part of my research. God be with you! :)

How does participation in online Catholic communities influence your sense of self, communal belonging, and meaning in relation to your religious experience?

This research is only for a course assignment, and would not be shared outside that context.

Biden to meet with Pope Francis just days before Trump inaguration

What could they possibly be talking about??

From their previous meeting:

Asked if he discussed abortion with Francis, Biden said he hadn’t. “We just talked about the fact he was happy I was a good Catholic and I should keep receiving communion,” Biden said.

Trump - Catholic Cabinet

I’ve seen a lot of hate on here for trump.

When an assassination attempt occurred on him and the bullet managed to graze his earlobe people laughed that God would save trump.

There’s a lot of hate for him in general.

But just come across this, suggesting he is assembling the most Catholic cabinet in history.

https://youtube.com/shorts/TKniK4qAy4c?si=ZREEj5nuPTr5zOZY

It’s been also argued that he’s the biggest sinner going, but then didn’t Jesus walk amongst and associate with sinners?

I just found it curious that somebody who has gained so much hatred from the Catholic community would then go on and assemble the most Catholic cabinet in us politics… and seemingly be saved by God from assassination.

How many people get shot at so close that the bullet can graze their earlobe and live to tell the tale?

There's urgent need to speak against the murder of Brian Thompson and similar future attempts

  • Widespread support of these murders is not in our best interest. It will be very hard to maintain a boundary between murdering people like Brian Thompson and murdering people that people just strongly disagree with. I wouldn't be surprised if people soon murder the owners of places that people think should provide abortions but don't. People will use apparent deadly maternal-fetal conflict as an excuse, just like people use the huge amount of deadly denials of health insurance coverage as an excuse for the murder of Brian Thompson. Then there will be support for people who cause gender transition surgery to be more restricted. Then it will be against people not in positions of power, including ordinary Catholics, which is an existential threat to democracy and freedom of religion in America. Then it could become completely utilitarian, rather than being based on how the targeted people supposedly led to deaths. Or maybe even consequentialist. Pseudoscience could be a big contributing factor in all of these cases. We are some people's enemies, so we should speak against murdering one's enemies.

  • A genuine pursuit of power means gaining respect from your enemies, just like how at least one black person used friendship to lead KKK members away from racism. It requires so much more patience, but it doesn't backfire so much, and it's a more direct solution.

This is a character arc for me

Just a reminder that the rebels who overthrew Assad are islamic terrorists that have connections to ISIS

Some of rebels have even fought against Our Brothers and Sisters in Armenia.

I'm not supporting Assad here, I just let people know on who they are supporting.

Moratorium on "Thoughts on" Posts

The proliferation of "Thoughts on" posts of varying quality has taken over the sub, and so a moratorium will be placed on such posts until further notice.

What's your thoughts on the 1975-1990 Lebanese Civil War?

Lebanese Civil War, 15-year civil conflict in Lebanon that began in 1975 and ended in 1990. It emanated from the deterioration of the Lebanese state and the coalescence of militias that provided security where the state could not. These militias formed largely along communal lines: the Lebanese Front (LF), led by the Phalangists (or Phalange), represented Maronite Christian clans whose leaders had dominated the traditional elite class of the country’s sociopolitical fabric; the Lebanese National Movement (LNM), a coalition of secular leftists and Sunni Muslims sympathetic to Arab nationalism; the Amal (“Hope,” also an acronym for Afwāj al-Muqāwamah al-Lubnāniyyah [Lebanese Resistance Detachments]) movement, comprising Shiʿi populists; and the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), which represented Lebanon’s large Palestinian refugee population. Other participants in the war included SyriaIsrael, and splintered contingents of the Lebanese Army.

It must be noted that war crimes were commited by both factions

Opinion on the Patti Lateranensi?

They were made by the Church to reconcile with Italy and its written that the school in italy would have catholicism as a subject. However,it doesnt allow for the church to influence the government, isn't that considered heretical?

Opinion on Catholic Integralism?

Integralism broadly believes there should be "a fully integrated social and political order, based on converging patrimonial (inherited) political, cultural, religious, and national traditions of a particular state". Integralism is a deeply  traditionalist and  reactionary doctrine which rejects the separation of church and state aswell as the liberal and egalitarian values of the enlightenment, and believes that the state should submit to spiritual authorities (an example of such a scheme would be the Catholic Gelasian Diarchy).

Integralism is an interpretation of Catholic Social Teaching that directly proposes that the Catholic faith should be the foundation for all secular law in society, the integration of the Church and State into one entity with two heads: a spiritual and temporal head, with the temporal head usually being a monarch. As both the temporal and spiritual heads have direct power over civil society, as opposed to a Theocracy, which empowers the clergy with temporal duties of statecraft directly and Caesaropapism which empowers the temporal head within the clerical institutions. An example of the first is the Papacy, where the Bishop of Rome is also Absolute Monarch of Rome, combining temporal and secular power within one individual. An example of Caesaropapism is the Anglican Church wherein the Monarch is also the head of the Anglican Church and has spiritual power in it's conduct. Despite drawing a distinction of Spiritual and Temporal power, Integralism is anything but secular (advocating for the separation of church and state) as both are empowered by grace of God to rule in tandem.

Are legally dead people morally obliged to follow the law?

In some countries, such as India and Romania, some people have been legally declared dead despite being actually alive, and trying to reverse their death status.

Are these people morally obliged to follow the law?

I remember reading there was a dead person in India who tried to break as many laws as possible to get the police to arrest him and admit he was alive, but they knew what was going on and wanted him to remain dead, so they didn’t arrest him. From what I understand, in this case the government was being corrupt and was bribed to declare him dead by someone who wanted his property.

The 40 Martyrs of England and Wales

Today (12/1/2024) is the feast day of Saint Edmund Campion. He is one of the 40 Martyrs of England and Wales. He died a horrible martyrdom (hanged, drawn, and quartered) for being Catholic in Anglican England. My question is has anyone or any institution been condemned and rebuked for this murder and those of the other 39. Were there any apologies, remorse, or regret about this from the Anglican Church? I realize Queen Elizabeth I was excommunicated BEFORE these killings happened, but did her excommunication justify the persecutions? Or did her persecutions validate her excommunication?
