I didn't realize posts were set to approved members only/restricted. I took that off so if anyone does want to scream into the void here re: books, go nuts
Looking for more book series similar to the Kendra Donovan series by Julie McElwain.
Essentially, present day woman does a thing, somehow gets transported back in time and becomes the main female protagonist, solving all the mysteries.
Bonus points for smut, but not hard core smut.
Very similar to the Outlander series but I've read that entire series atleast 4 times and need to take a break until Bees comes out.
My sis created a book club on facebook to read and discuss books which may ignite a lot of strong opinions. The group was built to share opinions in a respectful manor and help people gain insight on both sides of a polar topic. If that sounds like something you're into, just search "the Dubitable Book Club" on FB
So, I had never read a romance novel before last year, and I was afraid that books in that genre (especially historical romance) would be full of swooning damsels and awful macho men. I was wrooooong.
My absolute favorite this mystery/romance series. Veronica Speedwell is a scientist and adventurer living in the Victorian period. She is a proud feminist who rejects gender roles (possibly verging on anachronistic). The male lead, Stoker, is gruff and masculine, but not at all domineering. They are both developed into 3-dimensional people.
The books are funny, and the mysteries are clever. The 5th book comes out in 10 days, so I'm rereading the first four in preparation, and wanted to post about them here.
i need help finding a trilogy (last i checked it was) with a male protagonist that has a male friend a female friend and her sister the protagonist has 1 dark blue eye and one light blue eye with gold flecks in it he made a demon hunter video game and has a rod of power, he also has healing tech and demon slaying weapons and the like his father is the devil and he has a sister that betrays him at the end of the second book his step fathers family had been demon hunters his step father was killed by the devil

Obsessed with Arya Stark at the moment due to THAT moment in got this week and it got me craving more badass action women. I'm at a loss at where to start and I knew my bookish trolls would be the best to come to. What are your recommendations?
I tend to get sucked in to a story and then I only want to read similar books for a while. I decided that I would only read women authors this year, and then I fell down a rabbit hole of WWII historical fiction so I'm now on book five for the year of 'WWII historical fiction written by a woman'. I've taken a break every few books just to give my emotions a minute to chill, but I keep going back to it.
What are you stuck on? Are you enjoying the ride or trying to disrupt it with something else?
I've recently rediscovered reading for fun again (after a few years spent recovering from grad school) and I don't have many people to nerd out to!
What are you currently reading?
What's next on your list?
What's your favorite recent read?
Do you switch back and forth between fiction and non, or are you firmly in one camp?
Hello troll books!
I'm very interested in reading stories (fiction or nonfiction) of women in their prime - those women who find their footing after divorce, after kids have moved out, or when they hit their stride in their career.
Maybe she moved back to her hometown and fell in love again with her highschool sweetheart, or is finally able to travel for pleasure.
I wouldn't mind movie recommendations, either, if any come to mind!
Can any trolls recommend crime/mystery/suspense novels where the narrator isn't an investigator? I really liked Pretty Girls by Karin Slaughter and In a Dark Dark Wood by Ruth Ware. Both novels have a female protagonist that is at the center of the action but isn't a law enforcement officer/detective.
I realized they had this in common and now I want more like them! Having a strong police presence just doesn't quite do it for me I guess. Any suggestions are welcome!
Just like a troll book club except each week we watch a video of some kind and then have discussion threads on the videos we watch.
I imagine we'll have thread where people can vote for next weeks submission. Submissions would be open to wide range of video formats: documentaries, movies, filmed speeches, explanations and summaries of large scale investigative journalism, comedy specials (with serious messages), etc.
Currently I can only think of a few appropriate things to share but I'm sure you lovely people could help things of lots of great ones/
If I get even a few people interested I'll make the sub but anyone with moderating experience is highly welcome.
Please don't post any spoilers beyond this point!!
If you have not read the first 4 chapters, this thread will contain spoilers!!
It looks like overwhelming fiction! Several people are interested in reading The Stand by Stephen King.
There was also interest in reading a novel by a non white non male author. I looked on Goodreads and Girls Burn Brighter by Shobha Rao seemed like a good pick.
I propose 2 books for the month of May, where people can read one or the other or both!
Not sure how the discussion would take place, outside of posts and comments, but suggestions are welcome!!
I need more people to discuss books with!!
Is there any interest in reading a book and discussing it together online?
Edit: Yay there's interest!! I'm going to narrow down possibilities. Comment with your choice.
