Also known as "Bristol Sound" it was the name given to down-tempo electronic music in the 90s.

The winner for P is Protection by Massive Attack. Y'all should know by now, one song per comment and check you're not posting a song already left in the comments if you can.
The intro of "No Reality" by Mandalay has a really unique and compelling vocal effect wherein her voice sort of coincides with a reverberating synth/harp, giving her an almost robotic voice. Does anyone know how this is done?
You MUST listen to Beauty's confusion. A sadly under-appreciated Trip Hop band with a textbook Trip-Hop sound. I recommend "Moments Like These" to get started
any movies that focus on one band and have their music throughout with narrative or loosely connected story
Hello,
Since a few years, I’m delving into writing compositions with my electric guitar, because in my early teens I’ve discovered Bowie, Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin, my biggest guitar hero being jimmy page from the latter (I’m not so original so far) ; but since my late teens I’ve been a huge Depeche Mode, Massive Attack, Björk and Portishead fan, and therefore I want to write big sounding guitar parts with a trip hop production around them. I’m really interested in using the guitar for its wide variety of sounds and textures, using 12 strings and alternate tunings almost as the guitar is a sound generator. The thing is, sometimes my project may seems to me a bit weird on paper. Although LZ were doing almost blues sampling in some ways and Page was a master in both production and atmospheric design, it was meant to be bombastic, whereas trip hop is more noire melancholy leaning to my ears.
The best bridge between those genres may be the psychedelic side of them, but I’m afraid that as soon as I would start to build the army of guitars I would leave the realm of trip hop. My struggle is akin to the production arguments Massive Attack were into when they designed Mezzanine and songs such as Angel.
What do you guys and girls think ? Could trip hop be some kind of genre bending integrating more distant types of music, or is it excluding certain ways of producing, like adding a guitar slide solo ? I’m really curious about what other people may think of it
Can’t believe I only just discovered this collab. Sharing in case anyone else has also missed the album! (This is my fave song).
(Edit - Karen O is the singer from the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Danger Mouse is just well, unbelievable and has produced many great albums including for The Black Keys and Michael Kiwanuka).
Ghostpoet belongs on more Trip-Hop. Such an incredible and unique style.
I'm a sucker for long songs...
The winner for O is Overcome by Tricky. As always only one song and try to look for your song before commenting it
My girlfriend and I quit our jobs to make music for a few months, it was awesome. Now we’re poor and have to go back to work, sigh. But here’s the first single from our sessions. We consider it trip hop, so hopefully it comes across that way (if not I’m sure it’ll be deleted). If you like it we’re on Spotify, bandcamp and Apple Music etc. Let us know your thoughts and if you like it.
According to sources, triphop began in the late eighties in Bristol UK. Massive Attack are quoted as the first triphop act and the genre was not coined officially until 1994. I assume that early triphop bands must have been influenced by aspects of chilled out hip hop and electronic dance music in the mid to late eighties, so my question is what is the earliest triphop oriented track that anyone is aware of that was fundamental in developing the genre? Also are there any other key influences in other genres that are worth listening to?
The winner for N is Numb by Portishead. As usual please post only one song and check if it's already been posted before commenting
The winner for M was Midnight In A Perfect World. As always only one song otherwise I will choose the first one mentioned if you win and look for if your song was commented before saying it to avoid upvotes accidentally being split between comments
This is really the only trip hop song off of my ep Auroras that I released back in June.
After his first album, James Lavelle (aka UNKLE) experimented with various genres, so I wouldn't classify his post-Psyence Fiction discography as trip-hop. However, his song Ar.Mour (Spotify) from The Road pt II is, in my opinion, completely trip-hop and one of his best tracks. What do you think?
I'm an avid fan of Trip-Hop already, but I need to dive deeper into some different Trip-Hop circles and lesser-known artists. What do u got?
