I have bought Ironman 70.3 Jones Beach in NY for next September. I have only completed a half marathon recently at 1hour 56mins.
I don’t really know where to start. I have a gym membership at Chelsea piers but I don’t think I can match the triathlon team’s training schedule since they have sessions from 6am to 8am.
I run total of 30miles weekly, bike total of 50miles weekly, and swim total of 1500 yards.
What training method and weekly schedule do you guys recommend to a new ironman trainee like me?
If you guys know any triathlon team in NYC, lmk too!
Hi all,
I finally signed up for the rockaway triathlon coming up Sept 15th.
I am training for a marathon and I just want to have fun. I got all my gears but no ideas...
Been in the ocean quite a bit, being a bodyboarder, surfer, kitesurfer. So not overly worried about open water. I didn't train much though for the swim but will head to the ocean next week (did a bit of pool back in June to see I could do the 400m in one go).
Bike has been zwift mostly but will get my bike out next week.
Have a few brick workout planned as well. And will watch videos to see what to expect in transition.
Just wondering if there are some etiquette, specific unwritten rules I need to be aware of? Any advise to enjoy this and not be a total kook? Anyone has or will do this event?
Thanks!
I’m new to triathlon and joined Chelsea Piers(still waiting for swimming pool tho) to train triathlon seriously.
How do you guys manage your work and training? And where do you guys train?
I live in Astoria near Steinway. I would love to take your advice where it is good to train if any great places is near my place
Does anyone know whether this event is happening this year ? The website says that registration is opening soon, but the event is only a month away...
Hello all, I'm new to Triathlon and upon searching for events near NYC, which are all at least a 2 hour drive from nyc (except the handful of local ones), I noticed that the hotels in all these areas are very expensive. It seems that the Triathlons take place in areas where new yorkers like to go for getaways such as the hudson valley area or eastern long island.
Any tips/experience on how people lodge or stay overnight when they attend triathlons which doesn't break the bank? Has anyone done campsites because they are much cheaper? Thanks in advance.
Hey! I’m new to the community but would like to explore joining a club mostly to socialise and to build mental resilience while training together. Strictly beginner lol
Can anyone recommend one? I’m in the city.
I’m looking for a good sprint race out of the city this summer - considering Hudson Valley (Kingston), Saugerties etc. Does anyone have experience with these or recommendations for others? It will be my first tri and I’m going for completion / fun. Just want a good vibe and happiness - not to be stressed out. Thanks!
TriLife is offering a new series of learn-to-swim-faster classes on Saturday mornings this spring. If you are looking to make your form more efficient and fast, send me a DM and I'll give you the details.
Anyone know a spot where you won’t get chased out easily due to no lifeguards or that you can sneak into early and leave before you get chased out?
Hi all! I’m looking for a tri club in the SI area. My goal is to sign up/finish my first triathlon at some point this year. If no one is near by, then looking to bounce around training plan ideas for increased accountability. Thanks in advance!
Title. Need to get brother in law a gift and I want to get a gift card to a place that sells stuff for triathlons. Preferably in Long Island (Glen Head)
Scott Willett, the coach of TriLife, reached out to me to report TriLife is offering a series of learn-to-swim-better classes on Saturday mornings this winter. You don't have to be on TriLife to take the classes. You do need to be able to swim. If you are looking to make your form more efficient and fast, send me a DM and I'll give you the details.
I just took a walk along the swim route. The water clarity looked gnarly as expected. What I didn't expect was the amount of driftwood floating through the course. Swimming in the NYC tri always involves brushing against a stick or two here and there, but these were big branches, lengths of lumber, and even small trees.
I love challenging swims, but this looked dangerous. Hard to imagine the swim won't be cancelled.
Hi all, I'll be doing the NYC Tri this weekend for the first time. For those of you who have done this before, how long should I estimate the packet pick up and bike drop off to take from start to finish? Trying to plan tomorrow's schedule. Thank you in advance!
Long time NYC Tri-er here.
So, with the rain, and the impact that has on water quality in the Hudson, do we think they will cancel the swim?
Usually they would address this through the in-person briefings.
Wondering if anyone has a view? Am I jaded from past cancels?
I'm doing the NYC triathlon on Sunday, and as far as I know there is no pre-swim for this race.
I like doing a pre-swim to acclimatize with the water, and since this will probably be the coldest tri swim I've ever done, I'm apprehensive about how I'll feel just jumping right in at the start like I've seen in the YT videos. Can anyone speak about their experience ?
Curious who is doing Jones Beach. How are you getting there? Where are you spending the night before the race? Where are your people going to cheer you on?
Hi All,
Long time runner, doing my first tri in a few weeks. I need a wetsuit and I'd love any recommendations for where y'all go for those + other tri gear in NYC. Would love to be able to try one on and talk to helpful staff who know tris. Ideally in South Brooklyn (like not WMB/Greenpoint), but can go where I need to for the right help.
Thanks!
For my first triathlon I'll be competing in the NYC Triathlon on October 1st.
I'm from the area so I have friends and family that want to come out to support me.
For anybody that's done the race before - where should I tell them to go to spectate?
I have thought about doing a triathlon for a couple years but have never done it. Moved to nyc recently and came across the nyc triathlon. I am not sure how difficult it would be or how much time for training I would need since I don’t have experience with a triathlon. For background, I am a pretty strong swimmer. I swam competitively in college but will definitely need to build the endurance back up. I can swim 800m comfortably in a pool at a quicker pace right now. I don’t have experience road biking but do occasionally mountain bike, but I know those are completely different. Also a decently strong runner I can do a 5k in about 24 minutes so will need to train the longer distance too.
No intention of actually racing, but definitely want to finish with a decent time. Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks
Any tips would be great. Thanks all.
I thought I post this here if anyone is looking to get into the sports and planning to do their first triathlon event or looking for a shorter distance race. Is a Sprint distance. The location is in Rockaway Beach and almost the entire boardwalk too. Open water swim. Wet suit is recommended since I have been told the water temperature is around 60 degrees....
